Remove the key fob battery compartment cover (A). Using a thumb nail or flat-head screwdriver, pull upwards the cover and replace the CR2025 battery.

Dead Coin Battery

If your key fob isn't working and you are unable to reprogram it, the most likely cause is a dead battery. Replacing this should make it functional and running again. You can do it yourself in less than 10 minutes.

Start by opening the key from the side, without the rings made of metal. There's a clip-on lid, that is opened by a lever with your nail. The old battery is then put through the hole in the middle. Note: If you change the battery in a wrong way, or with a battery that is not suitable, it may damage the remote. Always replace the battery with one that is the same size, voltage and specification as the original.

If your key device was submerged in water it may be necessary to clean the chip prior to replacing the battery. This is particularly important especially if you've dropped it into the sea or soapy washing water. It is crucial to do this as soon as possible, because water can cause damage to the chip in your key fob's electronic.

Worn Buttons

The most common reason a Seat Ibiza replacement key stops working is because the battery for the coin being dead. This is not a problem and can be done in a couple of minutes. The key fob may cease to function if the buttons are worn. It is an easy fix that will require you to replace the old key shell with a new one.

It is important to replace the button cell battery correctly or the key fob might be damaged. It is recommended that you always use a brand new battery with the same size in terms of voltage, size, and specification. It's crucial that the polarity is facing up on the new battery.

The key fob is protected by rubber seals that will keep water out. However submerging the key fob in water can cause the seals' to break and damage the chip inside. This is usually the case if your key fob is left in the rain or accidentally falls into the pool. If the key fob does not function after replacing or reprogramming it and the receiver module may be defective.

Water Damage

Rubber seals on the key fob stop water from getting to the chip. It is not enough to stop the occasional splash. If your pet has been through a wash cycle or swimming in the ocean it could have damaged the chip.

This can be corrected by removing the battery, and then cleaning the chip with isopropyl or electronic cleaner. Let it dry completely and then put it back. If the chip has become damaged and needs to be replaced, replace it with a new chip.

If your key fob isn't function after changing the battery or reprogramming, the issue could be with the receiver module. It is the part inside the car that receives signals from the key fob, and then sends them to the key ignition system. It can be tested by trying the spare key fob if have one. It should trigger the ignition system light come on and the central locking activate. If this doesn't happen and the receiver is not working, then it could be defective. This is a costly fix but can be rectified by an expert from your local garage.

Radio Interference

The receiver module inside your key could be causing interference. This can be resolved with replacing the key with a new receiver module purchased from Seat parts.

To replace the battery, pull out the key part and using your thumb nail or flat head screwdriver gently prise upwards the key fob's battery compartment cover. Remove the old CR2025 battery and replace it with a new battery, making sure that the polarity of the battery is correct. You can also use a regular key that has transponder chip previously installed on a worn or damaged key. It can be coded and cut to fit your vehicle as needed.

Faulty Receiver Module

The receiver module is the part of the key fob that transmits radio signals to your car. If seat ibiza key ceases to function it could be because the module has failed. This can be identified using an OBDII scan tool or by contacting the dealer.

The remote keyless entry system is vulnerable to interference from other devices operating at the same frequency. This could include mobile phones, electrical devices and even some household appliances.

If the fob is exposed to clean tap water, it might be possible to clean the electronic chip with paper towels and isopropyl ethanol. If the key fob is submerged in salt or soapy water, or is sat on a wet floor for long periods of time, this will most likely cause damage and it is likely to require replacement.

To replace the battery on your key fob you will need a thumb nail or a small screwdriver that has a flat head to break open the cover of the button cell battery compartment (B). Remove the battery that was in there and replace it with the new CR2025 battery making sure the "+" polarity of the battery is directed upwards.
