A railway ticket booking agent has been arrested by the RPF for using a fake software to illegally book Tatkal tickets. The suspect was identified as Moinuddin Chisti, who used to run a ticket booking shop in Dadri. According to the police, he used unauthorized software — Nexus, Bigboss and Sikka V2 — to exploit the website and book Tatkal quota tickets faster than others. Chisti would then sell these tickets at inflated rates, violating multiple railway regulations.
A RPF official said that the illegal software bypassed the login captcha, booking captcha and bank OTP required to generate a ticket. This allowed the suspects to complete the entire booking process in under a second, which is far quicker than it takes for a genuine user. The RPF has weeded out and blocked 60 such agents who were using these illegal softwares. The official added that the cleansing operation means more Tatkal tickets will be available for passengers.
The official also explained that the nexus tatkal software is developed and operated outside India. The distributors then sell it to local agents who use it for illegal purposes. The software is not designed to be a security risk but it allows the agents to avoid any delays in the booking process. The software is used to book AC and deluxe berths in trains, especially during peak hours.
The nexus tatkal software was made public after five ticket booking agents were arrested in Vellore in July 2022. These agents had revealed to the police that a man named Alam was developing and selling the software, which helped them register tatkal tickets much quicker than other users on the IRCTC website by placing their IDs in the order before those of genuine commuters.
