Twilight Princess Game Review

The most dark and serious of the Nintendo 3D Zelda games, Twilight Princess pushes the limits of graphics to the maximum limits on the Wii's hardware. It's darker and more disturbing than The Wind Waker. There aren't any bug-eyed pigs nor effeminate Pirates.

Link is dragged into a parallel dimension called Twilight Realm, where he takes the form of a Hylian and a wolf, while being guided by Midna.

Gameplay

The thirteenth installment of The Legend of Zelda is Twilight Princess. It was released for the Nintendo GameCube and Wii systems in the year 2006. Critics praised the game with excellent scores in a variety of publications including 1UP CVG EGM and GamesRadar. Many consider it to be the most enjoyable game in the series and the most popular Zelda title on the PAL market.

Twilight Princess has naturalistic, stylized graphic style that is reminiscent of Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, but with a more sophisticated graphical engine. Twilight princess is the first game in the series with a fully directional movement control scheme, instead of having a fixed perspective like previous games. This modification was made in order to work with the Wii console's touchscreen that is based on pointing. The GameCube version of the game features an area in the back with mirror-image maps for players who prefer a fixed view.

Link transforms into a wolf once he enters the Twilight Realm. He also encounters Midna, an enigmatic creature. She informs Link that the kingdom of Hyrule is now under the control of a group of shadow beasts led the evil sorcerer Zant. She also explains that she is the true ruler of Twili but was usurped by Zant and cursed to her current form.


A short cutscene shows the soldiers being slain by shadow beasts after Link and Midna reach Hyrule Castle. Then, Link and Midna escape from the castle through a tunnel and enter the Twilight Realm.

In the Twilight Realm, Link can utilize his wolf-like form to move more freely throughout the world. He can also use senses to navigate around the world. He can sense the ghosts of soldiers and animals in the distance. He can also pick grass from specific patches and whistle with it to call an animal, like the Hawk or Epona. Link can also whistle near the patches to summon a similar animal.

As with earlier Zelda games music plays a major role in Twilight Princess. Link can play instruments that are musical like the flute or harp, to draw and call upon various animals. Characters

The Legend of Zelda is full of colorful and unique characters that leave an impression that will last forever. From hands coming out of toilets to pirate sailors traversing vast oceans, these quirky and creative personalities are the essence of the game. Link is introduced to new NPCs throughout the story who are not only interesting but also believable. Other notable characters are Iza who runs the Boat Rental Cabin in Lanayru Province and Iza's rapid ride, Louise Telma’s cat, who helps Wolf Link find a secret way into the castle via her bar and sewer system, as well as Faron his spirit guides Link to the Forest Temple in Eldin Province. The two team members defeat Diababa's Fused Shadow and obtains the first Tear of Light.

Midna is the princess of the Twilight Realm and one of the most captivating characters in the game. She is a part of the Triforce of Wisdom and can switch between her human and her wolf-like impish form. She talks to Link about her experience at the twilight, and how she defeated Zant the King of Twilight.

Zant is the evil sorcerer who rules the Twilight Realm. He possesses the second part of the Triforce of Wisdom. He was exiled to the Twilight Realm by the goddesses for encroaching on their land and enslaving the people. Midna dispels Zant's power, permitting him to transform into his human form whenever required.

The game also has an upgraded horse, called Epona that can be ridden in Hylian and wolf forms. Link can whistle at specific patches of grass to call the animal. (similar to Majora's Mask). Twilight Princess is the first game in the series where players can identify their horse.

Theme

Music is an integral part of any Zelda title. It can make a game feel epic exciting, expansive, and captivating. Twilight Princess' soundtrack is often criticized for being inconsistent and intermittent that doesn't capture certain emotional moments. In contrast, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are enthralling soundtracks that explode at precisely the right time to create a feeling of grandeur and eeriness.

Toru Minegishi and Asuka Ohta were responsible for the sound design and music in Twilight Princess, with Koji Kondo managing the composers of the series for the first time since Wind Waker. The soundtrack to Twilight Princess is a radical departure from the usual approach to the series, and features a the minimalist approach to music and arrangements. Most field and dungeon music begins with a single instrument creating a mystical and eerie atmosphere for the player. Midna's Lament, for example, uses a simple keyboard to create a sense of sadness for the player.

Dungeon themes are among the most well-known examples of this trend towards minimalism, with numerous dungeons featuring a dreary and dark atmosphere. This is particularly evident in Twilight Realm, which has an unsettling soundscape that is reminiscent of scenes in the soundtrack of a David Lynch movie. The absence of melody and the traditional arrangement of this track enhances its dark, eerie nature. Drones and bizarre patterns are interspersed to create a dark and eerie sound.

Link's home-town song, "Faron Woods," is a more uplifting and joyful song. This song uses a variety soft sounds and strings to create a peaceful and safe feeling for the player. The song has subtle references to the most well-known scene in the franchise because it has a melody that is reminiscent of the iconic melody that plays at Ocarina of Time's beginning.

Twilight Princess also has dynamic songs that change depending on the player's whereabouts, what they are doing, and what is taking place. For instance, the Hyrule Castle Town theme has various versions for each part of the town, with Central Square having a more energetic and full version of the tune. These variations add a wonderful touch to the world of Hyrule that adds a sense of depth and immersion.

Story

The story of Twilight Princess revolves around Link trying to stop Hyrule from being engulfed by the corrupted parallel dimension known as the Twilight Realm. To accomplish this, Link takes on the form of an Hylian or as well as a Wolf and is assisted by a woman named Midna.

Midna was the original ruler of Twili but she was usurped and cursed by Zant into her imp form. Link and Midna are instructed by the Sages of the past that only by defeating Ganondorf will be able to free them from their curse. The Sages reveal that the Mirror of Twilight causes the darkness to dwell in the Twilight Realm. Midna and Link journey to the Spirit's Spring where they encounter hostile creatures that kidnap kids. Wolf Link's keen nose assists them in tracking the children's scent to a nearby bridge and then cross into the Twilight Realm.

They enter the Forest Temple and battle Diababa to obtain the first Fused Shadow. Faron then informs them of the next destination, which is the Eldin Province in the west (Wii) or east (GCN).

At the Lakebed Temple in Lanayru, Midna teleports Link to an erupting rock and uses her power to melt the ice that lies at the bottom of Lake Hylia. The spirit of Rutela, the recently deceased Zora Queen, Rutela, then appears and tells Link that he has to visit the Lakebed Temple in order to gain access to a treasure from the Zora.

Twilight Princess allows you to ride Epona, the horse from Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. Link can select the name of the horse, unlike the predetermined names in the previous games.

When they arrive in the Twilight Realm, Midna and Link take back the remaining Mirror Shards. In the Palace of Twilight, the Sages reveal that Midna is actually the real ruler of the Twili, but she had been overlooked by the monarchy and turned to the gods to gain power. The Sages also inform them that the only way to defeat Ganondorf is to bring him to the light and break the alliance between the Twilight and Hyrule kingdoms.
