10 Things We Hate About Twilight Princess
Twilight Princess Game Review

The most sombre and dark of the Nintendo 3D Zelda games, Twilight Princess pushes the limits of graphic presentation to its maximum limits on the Wii's hardware. It's darker and more unsettling than The Wind Waker. There aren't any bug-eyed pigs, nor effeminate Pirates.

Link is pulled into a dimension that is called Twilight Realm, where he transforms into a Hylian and a wolf, while being guided by Midna.

Gameplay

The thirteenth installment in The Legend of Zelda is Twilight Princess. It was released in 2006 for the Nintendo GameCube system and Wii. Reviewers praised the game and gave it excellent scores in a variety of publications, including 1UP CVG EGM and GamesRadar. Many consider it to be the most enjoyable game in the series and the most popular Zelda title on the PAL market.

Twilight Princess features naturalistic, stylized graphic style that is reminiscent of Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, but with a more sophisticated graphics engine. Twilight princess is the first game in the series to have an entirely directional motion control scheme, instead of having a fixed perspective like previous games. This modification was made in order to work with the Wii console's touchscreen that is based on pointing. The GameCube version features an area at the back of the game, with mirror-image maps, for those who prefer a fixed view.

Link transforms into a wolf when he enters the Twilight Realm. He also encounters Midna, an enigmatic creature. She informs Link that the kingdom of Hyrule is now under the control of a group shadow beasts that are led by the evil sorcerer Zant. She also reveals that she is the true ruler of Twili but was supplanted by Zant and cursed to her current form.

When Link and Midna arrive at Hyrule Castle, a short cut scene shows the soldiers being killed by the shadow creatures. Link and Midna then escape the castle through an entrance tunnel to enter the Twilight Realm.

Link can move more freely around the world in the Twilight Realm by using his Wolf form. Link can also use his senses to navigate around the world. For example, he can detect the spirits of deceased soldiers and other animals in the distance. He can also whistle and pick grass from specific patches to summon an animal like a Hawk, Epona or other. Or, Link can howl near these patches to summon the same animal.

Twilight Princess is no different from other Zelda titles in the sense that music plays a major role. Link can play a musical instrument like the flute or harp, to draw and summon different animals. Link can also control the wolf's appearance using his voice. In addition, he can use his compasses to guide him through the world and stay out of trouble.

Characters

The Legend of Zelda series is full of colorful characters that leave an unforgettable impression on players. These quirky and creative personalities such as hands emerging from toilets to pirates sailing across vast oceans, are the core of this game. Twilight Princess continues in the tradition of the previous games, introducing numerous memorable characters.

In the course of the story, Link meets new NPCs that are not just fascinating, but also credible. It's an important leap forward that a lot of these NPCs aren't just victims, but actually have a role to play in the story. NPCs like Rusl who states that the forest is more dangerous now and kidnaps kids as well as the Ordon villager who disguises himself as a wolf when the children are being kidnapped each has their own unique personality.

Other notable characters include Iza, who operates the Boat Rental Cabin, as well as Iza's Rapid Ride in the Lanayru Province, Louise, Telma's cat, who assists Wolf Link locate a secret passageway through her bar and sewer system into the castle and Faron who's spirit helps guide Link and Midna to the Forest Temple in the Eldin Province. The duo defeats Diababa's Fused Shadow and obtains the first Tear of Light.

Midna is the princess of the Twilight Realm and one of the most captivating characters in the game. She has a sliver of the Triforce of Wisdom and can change between her human and her impish wolf form. She shares with Link about her experiences at the twilight, and about how she defeated Zant the King of Twilight.

Zant is the evil sorcerer who controls the Twilight Realm. He possesses the second half of the Triforce of Wisdom. starlight princess demo was removed to the Twilight Realm by the goddesses for taking over their land and enslaving people. Zant's magic enables him to remain in wolf form, but Midna eliminates the power and allows him to transform into his human form as required.

Epona is an improved horse that can be used in both the wolf and Hylian forms. Link can whistle at certain patches of grass in order to call the animal. (similar to Majora's Mask). The player can name the horse, making Twilight Princess the first time in the series where the player can personalize their own horse.

Theme

Music is among the most important parts of any Zelda game and it can make the world feel huge, epic, and engrossing. Twilight Princess' soundtrack is often criticized for being sporadic and inconsistent, which doesn't capture certain emotional moments. Contrastingly, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have enthralling compositions that blossom at exactly the right time to create a feeling of majestic and eerie.

Toru Minegishi and Asuka Ohta were the composers for the sound design and music in Twilight Princess, with Koji Kondo as the composer in charge for the first time since Wind Waker. The soundtrack for Twilight Princess is a radical deviation from the standard approach to the series, and features a the minimalist approach to melody and arrangements. The majority of music from dungeons and fields starts with a single instrumental, creating a mysterious and atmospheric ambiance for the player. For instance, the eerie music of Midna's lament makes use of a simple piano to create an overflowing feeling of sadness for the player.

The themes of dungeons are the most prominent examples of this trend towards minimalism, with numerous themes featuring a dull and dark atmosphere. This is evident in the Twilight Realm theme, which has a sonic landscape that would be at home on a David Lynch film. The absence of melody and the classic arrangement of this track accentuates its ominous, unsettling nature. Drones and bizarre patterns intertwine to create a dark, eerie texture.

A more upbeat and joyful song is Link's hometown theme, "Faron Woods." This song employs a variety of strings and soft sounds to create a peaceful and secure feeling for the player. The song is an ode to the most famous scene in the franchise as it features an thematic riff that's similar to the iconic melody that plays at the Ocarina of Time's start.

There are also some dynamic songs in Twilight Princess that change depending on the location of the player, what they are doing, and what's going on. For instance the Hyrule Castle Town theme has different versions for each section of the town with Central Square having a more lively and full version of the tune. These variations add a great flavor to the world of Hyrule that adds a sense of immersion and depth.

Story

Link's mission in Twilight Princess is to save Hyrule from the corrupted world known as the Twilight Realm. To achieve this, Link takes on the forms of an Hylian or the form of a Wolf and is assisted by a woman called Midna.

Midna was the original ruler of Twili but she was supplanted and cursed by Zant into her imp form. Link and Midna are instructed by the Sages of the past that only by defeating Ganondorf will be in a position to release them from their curse. The Sages then reveal that the Mirror of Twilight is the source of the darkness that exists in the Twilight Realm. Midna and Link travel to the Spirit's Spring where they encounter hostile creatures that kidnap kids. Wolf Link's keen ear assists them in tracking the children's scent to a bridge nearby and then cross into the Twilight Realm.

They enter the Forest Temple, battle Diababa and get the first Fused Shadow. Following this, Faron informs them that the next stop is the Eldin Province to the west (Wii) or east (GCN).

Midna, at the Lakebed Temple of Lanayru teleports Link to a fiery stone and uses her powers on the ice below Lake Hylia. Rutela's spirit, the recently dead Zora queen appears to Link and tells Link that he must visit the Lakebed Temple if he wants to unlock the treasure of Zora.

Returning from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask The horse Epona can be again riding in Twilight Princess. In contrast to the set name used in the two aforementioned games, Link can now decide the name of the horse by himself.

After arriving in the Twilight Realm, Midna and Link take back the remaining Mirror Shards. The Sages inform Midna that she is the true ruler of the Twili. She was a pawn by the monarchy and had turned to the god of power. The Sages also inform them that the only way to defeat Ganondorf is to bring him back to the light and break the pact between Twilight and Hyrule kingdoms.
