Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Pashto: , Urdu: ) is a province of Pakistan in northwestern region of the country. It is bordered by the province of Punjab to the south, Balochistan to the south-east, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir to the north and north-east and Islamabad Capital Territory to the east. It also shares a border with Afghanistan to the west.

Its provincial government is led by a chief minister who serves as the head of the executive branch of the government in the province. The provincial legislature is the assembly of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and consists of two houses, the Senate and the National Assembly. The legislative assembly is elected through a multi-party system in a single-member constituency. KPK89 of the province appoints the chief minister, who serves at the pleasure of the governor.

The current chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is Shehryar Azam Khan, who was appointed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 2018 to replace outgoing CM Mahmood Khan. Shehryar Azam Khan is a former bureaucrat and a Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln's Inn, London. From September 1990 till July 1993, he served as the chief secretary of the province and was also chairman of the Pakistan Tobacco Board.

He is a member of the National Assembly from PK-89 Peshawar-1 and represents the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) political party. He was elected as a member of the National Assembly in 2013. He is a strong advocate of development work, public service and social justice in the province. He has a deep respect for the law and always works in line with the legal provisions.

On the other hand, he is a firm believer in the rule of law and always strives to ensure that the interests of the masses are prioritized in all his decisions. He has also been working towards the empowerment of women in the province.

He is also a member of the Provincial Council, and has been the president of the District Development Advisory Committee for several years. Moreover, he has been working for the welfare of the underprivileged population of the province through his charity organizations. He has been involved in the field of education for many years and believes that the education sector must be given its due importance in a developing country like Pakistan. He also advocates a fair and transparent election process in the province to strengthen democracy. He hopes that the incoming president of the country would seriously carry out the task of fighting corruption. Lastly, he wants the upcoming president to focus on developing the economic and social sectors of the province. This will ultimately improve the standard of living in the province. He aspires to make the province a model for other developing nations.
