Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos
A robot vacuum is the best tool to maintain the cleanliness of your home. It will pick up pet hair, dust, and other particles on the surface.
Some robots are able to sync with smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Find models that can be recharged and continue cleaning the area they left.
1. iRobot S8
This smart robot mop and vacuum combo is a great choice for many households. It has a great navigation system with GPS and laser sensors. It also comes with numerous features and controls accessible via the app. It also has a handy feature which allows you to create cleaning zones in areas that require more attention, and Keep Out zones in areas you don't wish it to go. Like all Roomba devices, it is updated with new software updates that make it even more efficient over time.
It's costly, but it's is also one of the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It has a powerful battery that can sweep an entire home in less than two hours. It also switches between mopping and vacuuming with the push of one button. And unlike other self-emptying robots that require you to empty the trash bin after each run, this one automatically empties into the larger waste container that is above its charging dock.
It has a wide range of other features that make it a good choice for homes with a lot of space that include intelligent obstacle avoidance, which uses both a camera and processor-powered smarts to see obstacles. It's not often damaged or entrapped during cleaning and is the best at avoiding power cables as well as other objects I've tested. It is not as accurate at detecting pet waste or other dangers.
2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8
While Anker-owned Eufy has made a name for itself in low-cost robot vacuums it hasn't previously offered an all-in-one model that can also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that has a wide range of features that are advanced and can compete with more expensive models.
The most significant selling point for Eufy with this machine is its laser navigation. vacuum cleaners makes use of a laser mapping system that is more precise than previous Eufy devices. It takes less time to create an accurate map of your home. It also has the ability to store multiple maps. This is great for multi-floored homes.
The X8 is a good vacuum cleaner for floors with no dust. It can easily sling debris under the side brushes and into the 400ml dustbin. The X8's tyres, despite their circular shape, are good at grabbing edges and corners. It's not a fantastic cat litter eater, however as our tests show it can only remove about 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.
The mopping mode that is the basic one uses the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. This is great for spills that are not serious, but you can't regulate the amount of water it uses. That said, it does an excellent job of picking up pet hair, and has a higher speed of pickup than the Roborock S7.
3. Miele RX2
Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is renowned for its quiet, efficient appliances. It is a stunning design, a great navigation system and an impressive cleaning power. However, it has a few operational oddities that prevent it from being ranked as the top overall smart robot vacuum.
The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping system which uses LIDAR to map an area and a pair of 3D scanning cameras for detecting and staying clear of obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room is mapped, the app lets you designate virtual no-go zones and favorite sections that the robot will automatically clean. You can also begin a manual clean or manually change the cleaning mode, watch live feeds from the cameras onboard and more from the main screen.
The RX2 is equipped with excellent sensors that can identify furniture and other obstructions in a flash. Its sweeping and suction power are top of the line and cleans up surface debris from carpets with medium piles and dust on floors with no floor. However, it's not exactly the most efficient robot available. As with many others it's not a great climber and has trouble with things like metal threshold transition strips.
Some people buy a robot vacuum for the ease of setting a schedule in an app and forgetting about it for weeks at one time. It's crucial that a robot is capable of the task and that's why our ZDNet staff has tested and examined some of the most popular models in order to help you pick the best one for your house.
4. Shark ION
This budget robovac is a robot that looks just like the other, but comes with some extra features and better performance. Its smart mapping system generates 3D and 2D maps of your house and makes use of them to navigate and avoid obstructions. It's even able to spot common obstacles such as power cords and furniture legs in real-time. This combination of sensors, together with a bump sensor, and an infrared sensor for dropping that keeps it off steps, makes it one of the most agile vacs we've tried.
It was able to climb over carpets with thick shags and didn't get stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690-). Its navigational skills were also impressive as its score for composite tests on carpet and bare floors topped the competition. It was able to pick up 98.5 percent of the surface litter and embedded pet hair from our laboratory test samples.
The controls are simpler than those of the competition's. There's a clean button at the top and you can either start it by using the app or voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule weekly or daily cleanings, set up no-go zones and view the history of cleaning. Ion is covered in a smart dark gray plastic that looks and feels attractive in your home. Its rear dustbin is easily accessible to empty, and the removal of the filters is also simple.
5. Eufy 11S
Eufy 11S is an excellent option for those looking for a robot vacuum that's simple and doesn't have any frills at a cost that is low. It isn't equipped with some of the smart features, such as digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are available in higher-end models, but if you don't need those functions you can save money by purchasing this model.
This robot is very easy to install and use. It does not require a smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing, but it does have a remote control that allows you to select between different modes and adjust the suction level. It also allows you to manually send the robovac off for scheduled cleaning.
In our tests, we found that the 11S was extremely efficient at getting dirt and fur from carpets and floors with low pile. Its slim profile made it possible to pass under furniture that is low-hanging and other items that heavier robots were unable to get at. It was able to go effortlessly over door thresholds and move from one floor type to another.
Like other robots, the 11S is able to suck up some objects such as cords, drawstrings for hoodies, and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests you prevent this from happening by keeping these objects off the ground and using a cord organiser whenever possible. It also recommends cleaning the dustbin periodically by replacing the filters and washing or changing the brushes when needed.
Roomba 990 by iRobot
The Roomba 980 is the flagship robot vacuum. It's costly, but it's the most powerful robot vacuum you can purchase. Its self-navigation feature and environmental mapping is a marvel to behold. It also has more advanced automation features than most competitors, including the ability to create virtual boundary markers using its mobile app. Although its app is a little sluggish and the 980 can spin a bit when rolling over cables, it's a highly efficient robot vacuum.
We really like the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneity mapping and localisation (or vSLAM) to remember your home's floor plan. It will then use the information to create an efficient and consistent cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors, and a more efficient vacuum than the majority of high-end robot vacuums.
Other features include two multi-surface rubber brushes which pick up dirt from carpet and hard floors as well as the spinning brush that sweeps debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. Its floor tracking sensors help it navigate around furniture and along edges, while Cliff Detect keeps the Roomba from falling down stairs. And it automatically returns to its base station to ensure hassle-free recharges between sessions. The bin capacity and battery life of the 980 aren't as good as some other robot vacuums. However, it is a reliable and solid machine that can keep floors clean for a long time. hours.
