Where Will Best Robot Vacuums Be 1 Year From This Year?
Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

The best method to keep your home clean is to use a robot vacuum. It will remove dust, pet hair and other surface debris before it becomes a larger problem.

Some robots are able to sync with smart assistants such as Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Find models that are rechargeable and continue cleaning the area they left.

1. iRobot s8

This smart robot vacuum and mop is a great choice for many homes. It can be used to vacuum and mop, has excellent navigation with both GPS and laser sensors, and has a wide range of features and controls that are accessible through the app. It has a handy feature that lets you create cleaning zones in areas that require more attention, and Keep Out zones in areas that you don't want it to be. It also receives software updates, similar to all Roomba products, which improve the quality of the product over time.

It's costly but it's also among the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has tested. It has a powerful battery that can vacuum all of your home in less than two hours. It also switches between mopping and vacuuming with the touch of one button. It automatically empties the dust bin above its charging station, unlike other self emptying robots which require you to empty it after every run.

It also has many other features, such as intelligent obstacle avoidance which uses cameras in conjunction with processor-powered smarts in order to recognize obstacles. It is rarely derailed or stuck during a cleaning process. In my tests it was the best at avoiding objects such as power cables. It's not as reliable in detecting pet waste, or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

While the Anker-owned Eufy has earned a name for itself in low-cost robot vacuums it's not yet an all-in-one model that can also mop. That changes with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive set of modern features that can compete against much more expensive models.

Eufy's main selling point with the X8 is its laser navigation. The X8 uses laser mapping technology that is more accurate than previous Eufy devices. It takes less time to create an extensive map of your home. It can also store multiple maps. This is ideal for multi-floored homes.

The X8 is still a good vacuum on bare floors and can sling debris over its side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin with relative ease. The tyres are adept at securing corners and edges, despite being circular. It's not a great kitty litter scooper, however, with our tests showing it can only remove about 90 percent of the fur off hard floors.

There's a mopping mode which uses the same water tank as the vacuuming one. While this is good for loose spills however, you aren't able to limit the amount of water it consumes, which will limit its effectiveness on more severe stains. It's effective in removing hair from pets. vacuum bot has a higher pick-up rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

The company is known for its quiet home appliances Miele's RX2 robot vacuum has excellent cleaning power, beautiful design, and a great navigation. However, it does have a few operational oddities which prevent it from being considered as the top overall smart robot vacuum.

Like the latest models from iRobot, the RX2 comes with dual-sensor mapping technology that uses an LIDAR sensor to map out the space and two 3D scanning cameras to detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. Once the room has been defined, you can designate virtual no-go areas and preferred sections to the robot. You can also begin an automatic clean or manually change the cleaning mode, see a live feed from the onboard cameras and more from the main screen.

The RX2's sensors work well by registering furniture and obstructions in real-time. Its sweeping and suction power are top-of-the-line cleaning up surface debris from carpets with medium piles and dust on floors with no floor. But it's not the most agile robot on the market. It's not the greatest climber, and it has problems with metal threshold transition strips.

Some people buy a robot vacuum for the hands-off convenience of setting up a schedule using an app and then forgetting about it for weeks at a time. It is essential that a robot is able to do the job and that's why our ZDNet staff has compared and looked over some of the most popular models to help you choose the right one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget-friendly robovac looks just like a typical robot, but it's an upgrade in terms of performance and features. Its smart mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your house and makes use of to navigate and avoid obstructions. It can even detect common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors, together with a bump sensor, and an infrared sensor for dropping that keeps it off steps make it one of the fastest vacs we've tested.

In our tests, it effortlessly climbed over thick shag rugs and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigational skills were also impressive as its score for composite tests on carpet and bare floors beat out the competition, and it took in 98.5 percent of surface pet hair and litter from our laboratory test samples.

The controls are simpler than the competition's. There's a cleaning button at the top, and you can start it using the app or voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set up a schedule for daily or weekly cleaning, set no-go zones, and see its history of cleaning. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks stylish in your home. The dust bin on the rear is easily accessible to empty, and the removal of the filters is also simple.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a basic, no-frills robot vacuum for a reasonable cost, the Eufy11S is a great option. It lacks some of the advanced features, like digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are found in higher-end models, however, if you don't require those functions you can save money with this model.

This robot is simple to set up and use. It doesn't require a smartphone app or Wi-Fi connection, however it does come with the ability to control the remote with a remote that lets you select various modes and adjust the suction level. You can also set up a manual schedule to assign the robotvac to the schedule of cleaning.

In our tests, we found that the 11S was extremely effective at getting pet fur and dirt from carpets and floors with low pile. Its slim profile made it possible to pass under furniture that is low-hanging and other items that some larger robots are unable to reach. It was able to get easily over thresholds of doors and switch from one floor type to another.

Like other robots, the 11S will take in some objects, such as cords hoodie drawstrings, and cat toys. The manufacturer states that you can stop this by keeping these items off the floor and by using the possibility of a cord organizer. It also suggests cleaning the dustbin on a regular basis, replacing the filters and washing or changing the brushes as required.

iRobot Roomba 990

The Roomba is iRobot’s flagship robot vacuum. It's costly but it's an excellent performer and arguably the most advanced robot vacuum you can buy. Its self-navigation as well as environmental mapping is something to behold. It has more advanced automation than most of its competitors, including the ability to create virtual boundary markers using its mobile application. Although the app is a little sluggish and the 980 can spin out a bit when crossing cables, it's still an extremely efficient robot vacuum.

We love the 980, because it makes use of its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors as well as visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM) to remember the floor plan of your home. It will use this data to create a consistent, efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a better robot vacuum than many high-end robotics.

The 980's other features include dual multi-surface rubber brushes, which grab dirt from carpet and hard floors and a spinning brush that sweeps debris into the bin of the robotic vacuum. The sensors for floor tracking help it navigate around furniture and along edges, while Cliff Detect helps to prevent the Roomba from falling down stairs. It can also return automatically to the base station for simple recharging in between sessions. The bin capacity and the battery life of the 980 aren't as impressive as other robot vacuums. However, it is a reliable and solid machine that can keep floors clean for many hours.
