velocity is the rate at which an object changes position. it is vector, which means it has direction. speed describe how fast the object's going velocity describe how fast the object is moving (the speed).
(V=D Divided by T) - Velocity = Displacement Divided by Time.
“My mom was driving 50 miles per hour on the way to Grandma’s.” This is another way of saying that your mother was driving at a velocity of 50 miles an hour toward Grandma’s house. It does not mean she actually drove for fifty miles to get to Grandma’s, or for a whole hour, but it is a way of saying that if she had driven for an hour, she would have gone 50 miles in that hour. This was her velocity as she was driving to Grandma’s. Other common units for speed and velocity are meters per second and feet per second.
Let’s say we want to find out how many miles per hour a car is going. If the car is driving south at a steady rate and it takes the car 30 minutes to drive 30 miles, what is the car’s velocity? Using the formula, we know that the velocity is 30 miles divided by 30 minutes. This is the equivalent of saying the car has gone 30 miles in 0.5 hours, or 60 miles per hour. This is how the conversions would look:

Velocity = 30 miles ÷ 30 minutes

V = 30 miles ÷ 0.5 hours

V = 60 miles / hour
Velocity is 60 miles per hour, south.
