How To Make A Successful Private ADHD Titration Tutorials On Home
Private ADHD Titration

There is a current national shortage of medications that treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and an increased demand in the world.

Our service can offer private ADHD titration as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This includes medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your assessment, you will be informed if medication would be beneficial for your particular situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or by phone). Your physician will go over the various options for medications available. If you decide to begin medication, we will help you the opportunity to increase your dosage to ensure the best balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This is a process which may take several weeks, and requires adjusting your child's dosage gradually until the appropriate balance is reached. It is not uncommon to have to titrate up to three different medications until you discover the one that best fits your child's ADHD. It is important that parents participate in the titration and keep an eye out for their child's behavior so that they can inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing adverse reactions.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will be issued a private prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You will be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed, you'll be able to make follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist, as necessary. Usually the appointment will take place via a zoom video call but in certain circumstances it may be possible to schedule an audio-only consultation (again at an extra cost).

We will then discuss the options for treatment and then decide on a bespoke, individualised ADHD medication adjustment. This will include a review of your medication dose and a discussion around any negative side effects you may be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 via telephone or video consultation. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions regarding your family history as well as the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any mental health issues you might be suffering from. ADHD can be a genetic condition, so it's important to assess your family history to determine if you are at risk of developing this disorder.

During this assessment it is vital that you are honest and open with the doctor, as they will be using the information you provide to determine whether you have the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is an important step because an incorrect diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

If you've decided you would like to be treated for your ADHD We will arrange a follow up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this field. This can be scheduled within the first few days of your diagnosis if you are eager to begin treatment right away or within two weeks if you want to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the options available to you.

If you're not sure what you would prefer it is recommended that you talk with your GP before booking your private appointment as certain providers have different policies regarding whether they require a GP referral letter or not. Find out if your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic for medication prescription.

Medication

Medication is a key aspect of the treatment process for many who are looking for an official ADHD diagnosis. It isn't always easy to obtain a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.

Asking your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). You can pick a provider that provides an assessment that is private and the titration. This will cut down your waiting time considerably and can be more convenient when you are working and have a hectic schedule.

After titration adhd medications have been recommended, your physician will examine you to determine if you require medication titration. You will be asked to fill in forms that differ by doctor but the main ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood and adulthood. They will help your physician determine any issues that could mean you shouldn't take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are titrated on medication, it will typically include a mix of non-stimulant and stimulant medications. These will be carefully tested and monitored to find the right combination for you. The titration process may be long and could require several additional appointments before you're able to stay on your dosage.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will be contingent on the type and amount of medication you are taking. They could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. This will involve your clinician making sure that you are on the right medication, recording any side effects you've experienced and making any adjustments needed to ensure that you're on a dose that is safe. You are required to attend an annual health check-up and routine health exam that includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements.

For some it could be because they are content with their medication and don't require a further discussion about their titration. If, however, they do need further discussions about the titration process and treatment plan, it's possible that they will be passed back to the private clinic that made their initial assessment. In this case, the titration will be included in the consultation fee. The medication will then be administered via an individual prescription. This may cost more than prescriptions from the NHS because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
