Reasons Why Your Nissan Qashqai Key Fob Won't Work
The Qashqai has a distinct SUV feel due to its larger dimensions. Moreover, the ride on 19-inch wheels in Ti and ST-L models may be firm at times. The front tyres may lose grip on rough surfaces, and its CVT might occasionally exhibit wrist-flexing torque steer.
This is usually the result of a dead battery that can be replaced in just a few minutes. Make sure that the replacement battery is of the same size, voltage and specifications.
Water Damage
One of the main reasons why a Nissan key fob displays the "key ID is incorrect" message is due to water damage. The rubber seals on the key fob shield the electronic chip, but prolonged moisture exposure can cause it to stop working effectively. It is common to observe this when your key fob has been dropped into the water or a swimming pool. However, it could also occur when it's wet due to showers or soapy hands.
If your key fob was exposed to water over many years and you're not sure, clean it using isopropyl or electronic cleaner. It may also need to be taken to an expert for repair or replacement.
If your key fob need to be replaced the process is easy. First, make sure you have an appropriate multipack battery (CR2032 3V). Unlock the front and rear cases with a flathead screwdriver. You'll need to take out the clips for retaining metal and remove the old battery and insert the new one. After reassembling your fob, put the mechanical key back into position and ensure that it works as expected. If it doesn't it is necessary to bring it to a local Nissan dealer or an expert auto locksmith to fix the key chip. Fortunately, the chip is not normally damaged by exposure to water, so this should not cost you a lot.
Dead Coin Battery
Another common reason your Nissan Qashqai key fob might not function is because the battery for the coin is dead. The batteries typically last between 3-5 years, but they can become depleted over time, particularly if the fob is dropped frequently. You could replace the battery but ensure it's the same voltage and the same size as the previous. If you replace the battery, it may cause the key to be assigned a different key ID. This can prevent it from being paired with your vehicle.
The most effective method of changing the coin battery in a Nissan Qashqai Key Fob is to pry it open using an small screwdriver that has a flat head. In the screwdriver, push it into a small notch on the bottom of the fob, and twist it gently to split the two halves of the key fob. Then, take out the old CR2025 button cell battery and replace it with an alternative one after taking note of its position on the fob.
Before you put the new battery in check to ensure there isn't any dirt or water damage to the terminals. If there is, wash the terminals with a tiny amount of isopropyl alcohol. You'll also want to make sure the pole cables are connected correctly. They must be connected to the positive and negative poles of the battery, respectively.
Fault Diagnosis
If your Nissan Qashqai's key fob isn't working after being exposed to pure rainwater or clean tap water, this could be a sign there is a problem with the internal chip. You'll require a new keyfob if you are unable to fix the issue by changing the battery. If the key fob didn't work after dropping it, it is likely that the chip inside was damaged. You can usually get the key fob back to function again if you take it out and clean the chip with alcohol and paper towels, then put it back into.
One common error you will see on your car's dashboard is "Key ID Not Correct." This means that the car cannot recognize the key fob and not allow it to start the engine. The issue could be caused by many things including water damage, undetectable malfunctions in the key fob's circuitry or RFID interference.
If the 12 volt battery in your key fob inactive or is not supplying enough electric power it will cease to function. This can affect your Nissan Qashqai's keyless system central locking, as well as the ability to start the engine with the key fob. If you can't lock or unlock the door by hand You should examine the batteries inside the key fob to make sure they're in good shape. Try re-inserting the battery to reset the transmitter.
Reprogramming
If the key fob is not been submerged in salt water the device should be able to come back to life after a simple wash with clean water. You can also try cleaning the electronic chip using isopropyl ethanol or an electronic cleaner. If TheKeyLab of these work, it may be time to replace the entire key fob with a brand new one.
If your Nissan Intelligent Key is still not functioning, there may be an issue with the connection between it and the car. Start by turning the ignition key without beginning the car. Keep doing this until you see the hazard lights flash twice. Then, turn off the car and take out the key.
Open the fob compartment in your vehicle's fob compartment. It's usually on a door jamb or driver's door handle. Find the small "program" button and press it. After the program is complete you will hear a chime.
Now that your Intelligent Key is relinked to the car now is the time to try it out. Click all the buttons on the key while standing at a distance away from the car. If the lights flash or the horn sounds, then the key is successfully connected to the Nissan. You can also test it near the Nissan.
