10 Healthy Private ADHD Titration Habits
Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

Our service is able to offer private ADHD testing as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted with an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This will include a medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your assessment After your assessment, you will be informed if medication would be beneficial for your situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which may be scheduled in person, by video link or over the phone). Your doctor will explain the various options for medication and, if you decide to start on medication we will offer to titrate dosage to ensure the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process can take several weeks. It involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication slowly until the right balance is reached. It's not uncommon to need to titrate three or four medications before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. Parents must be involved in this titration process and keep an watchful eye on their child's behavior, so that they can inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be given as an individual prescription that you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fee). You'll be required to attend every six months to check your medication - this includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is complete, you can schedule follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. Typically, the appointment will take place via a zoom video call however in some instances it might be possible to have an audio-only consultation (again at an extra cost).

In this session, we'll discuss any treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose and any side effects that you might be experiencing. The cost of these titration appointments is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The doctor will also ask you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, including any issues with your relationships that you may be having or other mental health issues you may be suffering from. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, and it's vital to look into your family's history to determine if you're at a greater chance of developing this disorder.

It is crucial that you are honest and truthful to the doctor during this evaluation, as the information they get will be used to determine whether your ADHD meets the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial step, as an incorrect diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

If you decide to be treated for ADHD, we'll arrange an appointment for a follow-up visit with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this area. This can be done in the wake of your diagnosis if you are keen to begin treatment right away, or within two weeks if you prefer to take time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the possibilities that are available to you.

We suggest that if are unsure about your preferences, you speak with your GP prior to scheduling your private examination. Certain providers have different policies regarding whether or not they require a GP letter. We also recommend to confirm that your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement which means that once discharged from the clinic you will be referred back to them for the prescription for the medication.

Medication

Medication is an integral element of the process for many who are seeking a private ADHD diagnosis. The process of getting prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and lengthy. adhd titration private method waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs might be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Asking your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). You can choose a service that provides an assessment that is private and the titration. This will help you save time and be more convenient, especially when you are on a tight schedule.

If you are referred through this route, your chosen clinician will evaluate you and determine whether or not you need to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill out forms that are different for each provider, but the most important ones are self-report questionnaires as well as medical histories from childhood and adulthood. They will help your physician determine any issues that could suggest you should not take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are being titrated on medication, this will usually be a combination of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. They will be carefully tested and monitored to find the most suitable combination for you, taking into account any medical conditions you may have. The titration procedure can be long and may require several extra appointments before the dose becomes stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will be contingent on the type and amount of medication you are taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician making sure that you are taking the correct medication, noting any adverse effects you have had and making any adjustments needed to ensure that you're on a safe dosage. You are required to attend an annual health check-up and routine health examination which includes blood pressure, pulse, and weight measurements.

For some it could be that they are satisfied with their medication and don't require a further discussion about their titration. For those who require further discussion about their titration and treatment plans, it's possible to be referred back to the private clinic that made their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be included in the consultation fee and they will be given their medication through a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This may cost more than prescriptions from the NHS because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
