Nejčastěji se s pojmem palindrom, který pochází z řeckého palindromos, což znamená běžící pozpátku, setkáme v jazyce, kde se jím popisují slova, nebo dokonce celé věty, které se čtou stejně zleva i zprava. Zkuste si oběma směry přečíst například následující věty: JELENOVI PIVO NELEJ. KUNA NESE NANUK. ZEMAN NEMÁ KÁMEN NA MEZ.
