This is the process of dialogue between material to one another. This is the process when an intensive design and build process occurs. My parent has ecosystem that is been iterated since Indonesia’s Independence. The learning process is like shadow boxing which reters to a process of training by ourselves. The feedback will be very important because it shows that our thought is always imperfect. We would like to say that our slow journey, from “only” renovating to the point of undertaking a much larger projects, is not progress in a year or two, but in decades.

If we look at Aceh houses, Batak, Padang, Palembang, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, Bali, Wae Rebo, Sumba, to Toraja and Irian, we can see that the shapes are unique and varied. This is because the climate in Indonesia allows the installation of roofs in different shapes. If the snow was thick in winter, buildings with type of roof like what we have in Indonesia would immediately collapse. Climate potential in Indonesia is substantial and should become a major design element. Pay attention to the climate and take advantage of its potential. The first milestone was when I designed Le Bo Ye's office.
Project 18 – Otten Coffee Experience Bandung
I write and curate the information so that it’s easy to understand, and the studio tries to experiment to bring innovation and more understanding to the projects. Architects from abroad who come to my house always say that they are envious of the house’s openness. Some architects, indeed, cannot design thin walls and buildings because they live in a country with an extreme climate. Such things should also make us aware of our potential—our country’s pleasant climate.

It tells us to grow and to protect our beautiful roots. It is a book that was based on my teaching in a class about profession. The book actually studies the progression of understanding the profession, including the difference with vocation. The profession of the architect must nurture knowledge and generation. It defines the distance and natural learning process of an architect.

It starts with small universe of the context around us. Craft Grammatology is the book to open the relation between personal to traditions, nest and workshop place in the creation of architecture, and unveiling the trap of stylistic movement. This is a book to unify two books before that focussed in social relations on creativity work. In craftmanthip, we investigated how the master architects works to find their creativity. The tenth book is Methodology Grammar (2020), which I wrote with Anas Hidayat.

This process is like a process that tries to go backward to look back. There are 2 type of projects, one is The Collective Cave. This type consists of projects that has relations to certain brand identity which relate to collective effort in society.

I love to explore and meet many great people who are my inspirations. I live in Jakarta and Bandung, city and rural, in a beautiful country Indonesia. I believe that architecture can change people’s lives, human life. My family is a builder from a small city, my grandfather was from Samarinda, and my father was born in Lampung. The seventh book is Gunawan Tjahjono – Maharshi Bisma (2019).
In the countryside or the city, there are always collisions between industrialization and rationalization, and the maturity between both. And in the book, Vasari called it Non Finito, showing the continuing project that the work of architecture. I interpreted that in architecture, work is never finished and what’s the most important part is the one percent that shows the work which is never complete.
