Reasons Why Your Nissan Qashqai Key Fob Won't Work
The Qashqai's larger dimensions give it an SUV-like ambiance. Its 19-inch alloy wheels on Ti and STL versions can also be firm. The front tyres could lose grip on rough surfaces and its CVT might occasionally exhibit wrist-flexing torque steer.
It is usually caused by an inoperable coin battery, which can be replaced in minutes. Make sure that the replacement battery is of the same voltage, size, and specification.
Water Damage
Water damage is among the most common causes that cause the Nissan keyfob to display the "key ID wrong" message. The key fob comes with rubber seals which protect the chip inside, but long-term exposure to moisture could cause it to stop functioning properly. It's normal to see this if your keyfob was dropped in the water or in a swimming pool. But it can also occur when it's wet due to the rain or soapy hands.
If your key fob was exposed to water over the course of a long time it is possible to clean it with isopropyl or electronic cleaner. Or, it could need to be taken to a specialist for repair or replacement.
If your key fob require replacement, the procedure is relatively simple. First, make sure you have an appropriate multipack battery (CR2032 3V). Remove the front and back cases with a flathead screwdriver. Remove the clips made of metal, then remove the old battery and replace it. Reassemble the fob and replace the mechanical key. Verify that it is working properly. If it doesn't, you'll need to take it to a Nissan dealer or professional auto locksmith to replace the chip in the key. The chip is typically not damaged by water so it shouldn't be too expensive.
Dead Coin Battery
Another common reason the reason your Nissan Qashqai key fob might not work is that the battery for the coin is dead. These batteries last for 3 to 5 years, but they may fail over time in the event that the fob has been dropped frequently. You can replace the battery with a fresh one but be sure it's the same voltage and size as the original. If you replace the battery, it may cause the key to be assigned an incorrect key ID. This can prevent it from being connected to your vehicle.
The most efficient method to change the battery on the Nissan Qashqai Key Fob is to pry it open with an small screwdriver that has a flat head. Push in the screwdriver in tiny notch at the bottom of the fob and twist it gently to split the two parts of the key fob. Remove the old CR2025 battery and replace it with a new one, making note of the position of the previous one inside the fob.
Examine the terminals to see if there is dirt or water damage prior to installing the new battery. If this is the case clean the terminals using small amounts of isopropyl alcohol. You'll also want to make sure the pole cables are connected correctly. They should be connected to the negative and positive poles of the battery.
Troubleshooting
If your Nissan Qashqai's main fob stops functioning after exposure to water that is clean from a tap or rain it could indicate that there's an issue with the internal chip. You'll need a new keyfob in the event that you can't solve the issue by replacing the battery. If you dropped the key fob on the ground and it stopped working right away, this is most likely because it damaged the internal chip. If you clean the chip with isopropylethanol and paper towels and then replace it with the key fob, it is possible to generally get it back to working.
Key ID Incorrect is a common error you may see on the dashboard of your car. This means that the vehicle cannot recognize the key fob and not allow it to start the engine. The issue can be caused by a variety of things, including water damage, undetectable issues in the key fob's circuitry, or RFID interference.
The key fob won't work if the 12 volt batteries are dead or don't provide sufficient electric current. This will affect the remote keyless system as well as central locking in your Nissan Qashqai, as well as making it impossible to start your engine with the key fob (if equipped with Intelligent Key). If you are unable to unlock or lock the door by hand You should examine the batteries in your key fob and make sure they're in good condition. You can also try replacing the battery to reset your transmitter.
Reprogramming
If remote car key replacement was not submerged in saltwater it should be able to be revived with a simple rinse of clean water. You can also clean the electronic chip using isopropyl or electronic cleaner. If none of the above works, you may have to replace the key fob.
If your Nissan Intelligent Key still does not work, it could be a connection problem between it and the vehicle. To reconnect it, begin by turning the key into the ignition but without starting the car. Continue to do this until the hazard light flashes twice. After that, turn the car off and take out the keys.
Open the fob compartment in your vehicle. It is typically located in the door jamb, on the handle on the driver's side or under an armrest. Find the button that says "program" and press it. You will hear a sound when the process is completed.
Now that your Intelligent Key is relinked to the car is the time to test it out. Click all the buttons on the key while at a distance away from the car. If the lights flash, or the horn sounds, then the key is connected to the Nissan. You can also test it near the Nissan.
