10 Apps That Can Help You Manage Your Mazda 6 Key Fob
Changing the Battery in Your Mazda 3 Key Fob

There's nothing more frustrating than returning to your car after a long and tiring day and realizing that the key fob battery is dead. This is a straightforward fix that is easily done at a big box retailer or hardware store.

Incorporating a spare key fob to your Mazda 3 can be an affordable way to keep yourself from the hassle of being taken to the dealer and having them re-program your keys.

Battery Replacement

You can change the battery on your Mazda 3 keyfob at home. However, you should replace the battery if it fails, or when the key fob shows a message on the multi-information display, "Low key fob battery. Replace battery."

You'll need to use an flathead screwdriver along with tape and patience to open the case. Insert the head of the flathead screwdriver in a notch or gap on the bottom metal of the Mazda 3 key fob to pry the lower half off. Repeat the procedure for the top metal piece, but be sure not to damage the rubber ring on the bottom of the case.

Once the fob case has been open, you'll find the slots on either side of the case that houses the battery. Start on the opposite side of the case and then gently pry it open. Remove the old battery and then put in the new CR2025 ensure that it's in the right orientation for proper polarity. Attach the cap to the battery again, and then attach both sides of your key fob case by pressing until they click.

After replacing the battery After replacing the battery, lock and unlock your doors to test that the fob works. If everything is in order, your Mazda 3 remote features can be used again.

Pairing Issues

If your key fob stopped working suddenly it could mean that the transmitter in the car has been damaged. It's usually a task for a professional, and you will need a new key fob.

If you've attempted to replace the battery and reprogram the key fob, but it's not working, the chip inside the key fob may be defective. This could be the case if the keyfob has been dropped or exposed to saltwater or handled by dirty fingers.

You'll need to locate an extremely small "key" that is built into the seam, to take off the circuit board to identify the problem. Then, you can check the chip for damage or corrosion. To prevent damaging the microchip, it is recommended to use a clean paper towel.

You can also inspect the battery connector's terminals to check if they're damaged or cracked. If this is the case, then carefully soldering them back in place can generally restore the functionality of the key fob. You can also inspect the buttons for damage or wear. If the buttons are loose, they can easily be soldered back in place and also if the button has actually snapped off.

There are few things more frustrating than looking at an "No Fob Detected" message when you attempt to start your car. It typically happens at most inconvenient time, such as when you're late for work or when you are picking up your children from daycare or school. The good thing is that there are a few steps you can take to pinpoint the issue and determine the root of the problem.

Interference signals can cause the remote key fob to stop functioning properly. This could be caused by things like buildings, weather conditions and transmitters that operate on the same frequency. Interference could occur if your vehicle is equipped with aftermarket equipment that transmits at the same frequency as your key fob.

Additionally, if the key fob is exposed to salt or water waters, it could be damaged. The rubber seals on the electronic chip could be penetrated by water, especially when it is submerged over an extended period of time, like in a pool or ocean at the beach. The chip can stop working and require replacement of the keyfob. If you have a programmeable key you can clean the chip using isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner to help it return to working. If this does nothing will be able to fix the issue, then the chip is fried and needs to be replaced.

Locking/Unlocking of the Doors

The buttons on the fob's key send electronic signals to the solenoid of the car, which transforms this signal into a mechanical action. It locks and unlocks doors. If your door lock isn't working, it could be an issue with the solenoid. This requires professionals from auto repair shops to investigate.

A dead 12 volt could also stop the fob from functioning properly. This can occur if your battery fails to charge or if your contacts become damaged. The good news is that a new battery can fix this problem in just minutes.

If the key fob isn't functioning after you replace the battery or try to reprogram it the problem could be related to the receiver module. The device receives radio frequency signals from the key fob and interprets them into controlling the functions of the vehicle. It could be a costly repair if the device becomes defective.

To verify if this is true, place your spare key in the key slot. Then, turn the ignition ON. Press the key fob twice in 10 seconds, without taking it out. The Mazda 3 system synchronizes the key with the vehicle and you can now use it as your primary remote for driving. This allows you to program up to three keys.
