When the good gatsby movie got here out, I was so excited to see it. However after seeing it, i used to be disappointed. I thought that it fully missed the point of the book and was an entire mess. The modern day rap music, remixes and elaborate set pieces just took away from the story. I also felt that the director Baz Luhrmann was going for too much and overdid it. I perceive that he wished to make it more entertaining and hip however I feel prefer it simply distracted from the story. Overall the acting was good, especially Leonardo DiCaprio's performance as Gatsby. He actually nailed the person's pains and struggles with his compulsive smoothing of his hair, his tight crossing of his legs, the royal wave and his constant fastening of that prime swimsuit button. Overall the movie is well carried out however it is definitely not for everybody.

The story is set in the glittering period of Prohibition-era New York, however most of it takes place in the vacuous suburbs surrounding East Egg and West Egg -- a sooty wasteland that's house to millionaire party-giver Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). Midwest native Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) moves into a cottage subsequent door to Gatsby's mansion and throughout the bay from his cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) and her brutish husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). Nick shortly identifies with and admires Gatsby, whose dream of becoming a wealthy bond salesman soon proves shattered. The two become pals, and Gatsby hopes to make use of Nick as a method again into Daisy's life.

In this model, the characters usually are not as fully rounded and the relationships usually are not as believable as they had been in Fitzgerald's novel. The script is also full of dialogue that sounds extra like a transcript than a natural dialog and some of the scenes are cut or altered. Throughout the film, Luhrmann's stagey course -- with its frenetic digital camera movements and stylized dancing -- adds one other layer of pointless distance between viewer and story.


Occasionally, though, one thing like real emotion pokes via the film's well-manicured surface, as when Gatsby tells the story of his first meeting with Daisy and his face lights up with that childlike hope. At other occasions, the film feels extra like a PBS-style bare-bones adaptation of a traditional the place actors deliver their strains rehearsed and uninspired.

Despite all that, the earnest forged -- significantly Carey Mulligan as Daisy and Joel Edgerton as Tom -- carries the movie through the primary half. But when the hysteria provides method to fatalism, the whole affair deflates. It's a reminder that even probably the most well-manicured productions cannot avoid the gravity of the material.
