Full Spectrum CBD and the Entourage Effect
Full spectrum CBD oil is a blend of cannabinoid, terpene, and flavonoids that function like an orchestra for overall wellness. However, this oil does contain traces of THC and may result in positive results for drug tests for those who undergo regular drug testing at the workplace.
THC-free, full spectrum products are available, such as the Sleep PM tincture and sleep Gummies that blend hemp-based botanicals with melatonin as well as calming herbs such as lemon balm, valerian and hops.
Benefits
The entourage effect enables full-spectrum CBD to provide a wide variety of benefits. This is the place where the various cannabinoids and terpenes interact rather than competing against one another, to give you a variety of effects that are greater than any single cannabinoid its own.
For instance, CBD may calm the effects of THC which can make you feel groggy or high while CBN (cannabinol) increases the euphoric qualities of THC and can reduce some of the negative effects of THC such as anxiety, dry mouth, and dizziness. This is the reason that many people prefer a full-spectrum CBD product rather than a CBD isolate.
The use of full spectrum oils can aid in a variety of ailments, such as pain, sleep disorders nausea and vomiting depression, anxiety and epileptic seizures. It is possible to test a few different products before finding the best one for you.
If you're just beginning you may want to start with a low concentration of CBD that is full spectrum. The majority of full-spectrum CBD products contain less than 0.3 percent THC. This amount of THC, depending on the brand you are using and how much you use it, could be sufficient to cause impairment or to be positive for a drug test.
Tinctures and capsules are two of the most commonly used methods of taking full spectrum CBD. Both are easily absorbable by the body if taken orally, however tinctures distribute the oil more efficiently across your digestive tract. To ensure fast absorption, place the tincture under your tongue for 30 to 60 seconds prior to swallowing it.
Dosage
While CBD can be used on its own however, research has found that its therapeutic effects are more effective when it is combined with other cannabis plant compounds such as terpenes and flavonoids. This is called the entourage effect. These other plant compounds are also present in products that contain full spectrum CBD. Broad-spectrum products and isolates remove THC, but keep the other flavonoids as well as terpenes.
While THC may cause psychoactive or sedative effects, the amount of THC in products that are full spectrum is extremely low at less than 0.3 percent. It is unlikely that these products can create a high or appear in an examination for drugs. However, it's still important to review the label and consult with your doctor prior to consuming any new product, especially when consuming it for the first time.
If you decide to purchase a full spectrum CBD product, be sure to go over the label and follow the recommendations of the manufacturer for dosage. Experts advise that first-time users start with a dose of 25 milligrams. Then, increase the dosage by 5 milligrams each 2 or 3 days.
cbdMD offers a variety of CBD products that cover the full spectrum, including gummies and Softgels from the Sleep PM line. These products also include the melatonin, chamomile, lemon balm, valerian and passion flower extracts to create a natural nighttime blend that helps you sleep through the night. cbdMD MAX on the other hand, is an even stronger and more potent blend of high-potency full spectrum CBD and Univestin (a proprietary blend of Chinese skullcap root and Acacia catechu). This product is ideal for those suffering from persistent pain or joint problems.
Side Effects
Many people opt for full spectrum products because of the entourage effect. This indicates that CBD is more potent when combined together with other cannabis compounds. These products contain a small amount of THC, which can help boost the anti-anxiety, sleep and effects of CBD. This amount is so minimal that it shouldn't have any psychoactive or sedative effects. It is possible that you'll be tested positive for THC in the course of a drug test. This could be a problem, particularly when you work in a regulated field or have to undergo regular drug tests.
Full spectrum CBD is efficient in reducing the symptoms of PTSD and HIV/AIDS. It also reduces pain and nausea. These benefits are believed to be due to CBD's interaction with other cannabinoids like flavonoids and Terpenes. For example, cannabigerol (CBG) is a cannabinoid that has anti-fungal as well as anti-bacterial properties. Cannabidivarin, or CBD is anti-seizure, and anti-inflammatory properties.
CBD can interact with certain medications, including benzodiazepine sedatives such as Klonopin (clonazepam) Ativan (lorazepam) and Valium (diazepam). CBD can interfere with certain medications. These include benzodiazepine tranquilizers, such as Klonopin, Ativan, and Valium. CBD may also increase the effects of certain immune suppressing drugs, such as Cytosporine (used to treat tuberculosis) and Sandimmune (cyclosporine). In some instances the interaction could be minor and not require a changes in dosage, however in other cases, it could alter how well you respond to the medication.
Interactions
Many people take both prescription and over-the-counter medications and cannabinoids, such as CBD can interact with certain drugs. It is recommended to consult your doctor prior to taking any supplements, including CBD that is full spectrum. A primer on drug interactions with cannabis and CBD is available from Project CBD to educate physicians as well as patients and the general public. It is free to download at the bottom of this page.
The entourage theory suggests that THC in combination with other phytocannabinoids could have different effects than a cannabinoid alone. It also suggests that certain of the terpenes and flavonoids found in hemp plant extracts may reduce unwanted THC negative effects like anxiety, hunger and drowsiness.
Research on THC and CBD have proven that they can reduce anxiety and pain, especially neuropathic pain from Rheumatoid or multiple sclerosis. However, a study in 2021 published in The Permanente Journal found that THC-dominant marijuana can cause insomnia when taken in large doses, therefore caution is advised with this product if you are sensitive to THC.
CBD can interfere with the hepatic enzyme CYP2D6 which can affect the metabolism of several antidepressants and SSRIs. Home Page can increase levels of serotonin in the bloodstream that are selective inhibitors such as sertraline, and decrease the effectiveness monoamine oxidase (MAOIs) like tranylcypromine phenelzine isocarboxazid. It can also enhance the effects of anticonvulsant medication such as lamotrigine and valproate.
