Full Spectrum CBD and the Entourage Effect
Full spectrum CBD oil is a mixture of cannabinoid terpenes and flavonoids that work together to promote well-being. However, this oil may contain some trace amounts of THC and could result in a positive drug test result for those who undergo regular drug testing at the workplace.
THC-free products are readily available. They include the Sleep PM tincture, which includes hemp-based botanicals, Melatonin and soothing herbs like hops, valerian and lemon balm.
Benefits
Full-spectrum CBD has a broad range of benefits because of the entourage effect. This is the result of having the various cannabinoids and terpenes as well as other compounds come together to create a variety of effects, greater than any cannabinoid alone.
For instance, CBD may calm the effects of THC which can make you feel groggy or high while CBN (cannabinol) increases the euphoric effects of THC and can reduce some of the negative effects of THC like anxiety, dry mouth, and dizziness. This is the reason why many prefer a full spectrum product over a CBD isolate.
Full spectrum oil may help with a number of conditions such as depression, anxiety, epilepsy, and nausea and vomiting. It is possible to try a few different products before finding the one that works best for you.
If you're just beginning or just starting out, you may want to start with a lower dose of CBD with a full spectrum. This is because the majority of full-spectrum products only contain a small amount of THC that is typically less than 0.3 percent. Depending on the product and your level of usage, this could be enough to create an impairing effect or cause you to test positive for a drug screening test.
Tinctures and capsules are two of the most popular ways to consume full spectrum CBD. Both are absorbed easily into the body when swallowed, however, tinctures are more effective at dispersing the oil throughout your digestive system. You should hold the tincture for 30-60 seconds under your tongue before taking it in.
Dosage
While CBD can be taken as a stand-alone supplement, studies have found that its benefits for healing are stronger when paired with other cannabis plant compounds like flavonoids and terpenes. This is known as the entourage effect. Other plant compounds are also found in products that contain full spectrum CBD. Broad-spectrum products and isolates remove THC however they retain other flavonoids as well as terpenes.
While THC can produce the effects of sedation or psychoactive however, the amount of THC in full spectrum products is extremely low at less than 0.3 percent. It is highly unlikely that these products can cause a high, or be detected on tests for drugs. It's important to read labels and consult with your doctor prior to using a new product especially if this is the first time you've tried it.
When you are choosing a full spectrum CBD, read the label and follow the dosage guidelines set by the manufacturer. Experts suggest that new users begin with 25 milligrams. Then, increase the dose by 5 milligrams every 2 or 3 days.
cbdMD offers a variety of CBD products that cover the full spectrum, such as gummies and Softgels from the Sleep PM line. These products also contain the melatonin, chamomile, lemon balm, valerian and passion flower extracts for a natural blend for the night which helps to sleep through the night. cbdMD MAX on the other hand, offers an enhanced, more potent combination of high-potency full-spectrum CBD and Univestin (a proprietary blend of Chinese skullcap root and the acacia catechu). This product is perfect for those who suffer from chronic joint pain or joint disorders.
Side Effects
The entourage effect suggests that CBD is more effective when paired with other cannabis compounds, is a key reason for people to choose full spectrum products. These products contain a tiny amount of THC, which can help boost the anti-anxiety, sleep and effects of CBD. However the amount of THC is so low that it won't cause any sedative or psychoactive effects. However there is a chance that you could test positive for THC during a drug test, which can be a concern if you work in a sensitive industry or have to take a regular drug test.
In addition to its anti-anxiety and sleep-related effects Full spectrum CBD may also relieve pain, alleviate nausea, and help reduce symptoms of PTSD and Crohn's disease and HIV/AIDS. These benefits are thought to be due to CBD's interaction with other cannabinoids, like flavonoids and Terpenes. Cannabigerol, also known as CBG, is a cannabinoid that has anti-fungal and antibiotic properties. Cannabidivarin, also known as CBD is anti-seizure, and anti-inflammatory properties.
CBD can interact with certain medications, such as benzodiazepine sedatives like Klonopin (clonazepam), Ativan (lorazepam), and Valium (diazepam). CBD can be harmful when combined with certain medications. These include benzodiazepine tranquilizers, such as Klonopin, Ativan, and Valium. Encasa Botanics can also increase the effects of certain immune suppressing drugs like Cytosporine (used to treat tuberculosis) and Sandimmune (cyclosporine). In some instances, the interaction is not severe and doesn't require adjustment in dosage. However, in other cases it can affect your response to the medication.
Interactions
Many people take prescription and OTC medications. Cannabinoids like CBD may interact with these drugs. It is essential to consult your doctor prior to taking any supplements, including CBD with a full spectrum. Project CBD has published a guide to the interaction between drugs and cannabis and CBD to educate doctors, patients and even the public. The free download at the bottom of this page.
The theory of the entourage effect suggests that the combination of THC and other phytocannabinoids has different effects than each cannabinoid alone. It is also believed that some of the flavonoids and terpenes found in hemp plant extracts might help to reduce unwanted THC negative effects like anxiety, hunger, and drowsiness.
Studies on THC and CBD have proven that they can reduce anxiety and pain, especially neuropathopathic pain caused by multiple sclerosis or rheumatoid arthritis. However, a 2021 study published in The Permanente Journal found that THC-dominant cannabis could cause increased sleepiness when taken in large doses, therefore caution is advised with this product if you are sensitive to THC.
CBD may interfere with CYP2D6, which is a liver enzyme that influences the effectiveness and metabolism of antidepressants. CBD may increase the levels of serotonin reuptake inhibitors like sertraline, and reduce the effectiveness of monoamine oxidase (MAOIs), such as tranylcypromine phenelzine phenelzine. It may also enhance the effects of anticonvulsant medications such as lamotrigine and valproate.
