Personal Area Network (PAN):

Characteristics:
Small network for personal devices.
Short-range (typically within a few meters).
Often used for connecting devices like smartphones, laptops, and tablets.
Purpose:
Facilitates communication between personal devices.
Commonly used for file sharing, printing, and connecting peripherals.
Local Area Network (LAN):

Characteristics:
Limited geographic area (a single building or a campus).
High data transfer rates.
Private ownership and management.
Purpose:
Facilitates resource sharing within an organization.
Supports applications like file sharing, printing, and email.
Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN):

Characteristics:
Similar to LAN but uses wireless technology (Wi-Fi).
Devices connect through access points.
Purpose:
Provides flexibility and mobility within the coverage area.
Commonly used in homes, offices, and public spaces.
Wide Area Network (WAN):

Characteristics:
Spans a large geographic area (across cities, countries, or continents).
Uses public or private network infrastructure.
Lower data transfer rates compared to LAN.
Purpose:
Connects LANs over long distances.
Supports centralized data storage, email, and applications.
Internet:

Characteristics:
Global network of interconnected networks.
Publicly accessible.
Utilizes a variety of communication protocols (e.g., TCP/IP).
Purpose:
Enables worldwide communication and information sharing.
Supports a wide range of applications, including browsing, email, and online services.
Intranet:

Characteristics:
Private network within an organization.
Uses the same technologies as the Internet (TCP/IP).
Accessible only to authorized users.
Purpose:
Facilitates internal communication and collaboration.
Hosts internal websites, documents, and resources.
Connections between Networks:

PAN to LAN/WLAN: Devices in a PAN may connect to a local network (LAN/WLAN) for broader access to resources.

LAN to WAN: Local networks often connect to a wide area network to access external resources or connect with other branches of the same organization.

WLAN to Internet: Wireless local networks connect to the Internet through a gateway or router to access global resources.

Intranet to Internet: An intranet may have limited connectivity to the Internet, allowing access to external information while maintaining internal security.
