14 Businesses Doing A Great Job At Cheap Multi Fuel Stoves
Cheap Multi Fuel Stoves

Summary: These simple and light-weight stoves burn wood as well as hexamine tablets, gas canisters and white fuel via one nozzle. They're popular in colder weather, but they're loud and don't have a simmer control.

Some multi-fuel stoves are hybrids capable of burning multiple types of liquid fuel. The MSR WhisperLite Universal, for instance, takes both white and isobutane canisters of fuel.

Optimus Nova

The Optimus Nova is a multi-fuel stove that can be used with various liquid fuels. It has a quick-priming burner as well as an aluminium pump that self-purges and precise control of the simmer. Its low center of gravity and large spreading legs make it a sturdy stove that can be used on hard ground. This makes it a perfect stove for backpacking groups, base camps, kayaking, and camping in the Arctic.

Unlike many other stoves that use liquid fuel, which suffer from a problem where unburned fuel is left in the fuel line and the nozzle of the stove, the Optimus Nova has a shut off mechanism that works by simply flipping the container over. The intake hoses are removed from the fuel and causes them to take in air, which puts out flames and depressurizes bottle.

This is an clever solution to a long-standing problem, and it certainly works. The Nova can be used with a range of regular fuel bottles that are sealed with an o-ring, including MSR bottles. It also comes with a full-featured stove bag with separate pockets for tools, spare parts and lubricant, as well as the fuel pump.

This is a great backpacking stove that can be used in the UK. It is particularly useful for expeditions, where various fuels are required. The price is affordable when compared to canister stoves that have similar capabilities. Moreover the Optimus Nova is easy to maintain and enjoyable to use.

Kovea Hydra

The Kovea Hydra multi fuel stove first came on the market in 2010 and has been a popular choice for many backpackers since. The Hydra isn't as well-known among UK backpackers anymore Perhaps because they've caught up to better-known brands or the newest lightweight offerings from China or Korea. However, that doesn't make it any less effective.

It's a small and light stove that burns all liquid fuels including white gas and propane butane through one nozzle. It has a fairly typical stove design with a burner bell bolted to a body that anchors three support legs that fold out. A pump is located on the top of the fuel line and the generator loop runs around the inlet and the flame spreader sits above the inlet. The burner itself is a low velocity flame which makes it a little less affected by wind.

It is a very versatile cooker as it can be used with propane canisters or isobutane canisters. It's easy to simmer on propane or isobutane and burns all types of fuel with a decent amount of heat, but is a little slower than other stoves that use white gas.

The instructions for the Hydra are written in English however they were clearly not written by native English speakers. The instructions warn you against using certain types of lighter fluid. If you don't follow the instructions correctly this could cause an accident, and possibly put Kovea into legal trouble. That said that, any 7/16ths UNEF threaded gas canister made by a trusted brand should work just fine.

Primus OmniLite Ti

The Primus Omnilite Ti is a ideal choice for those looking for a multifuel stove that can cook using a variety fuels. It can be used with gas, petrol/gasoline or diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel. It comes with separate controls for each fuel type and allows you to alter the size of the flame. This stove also comes with an fuel line that is flat on the ground and is easily connected to the tank.

While the Primus Omnilite is a fantastic stove, it requires maintenance to ensure that it functions properly. In particular it is prone to flare during priming, which can be dangerous. This is a common problem with all stoves with liquid fuel that utilize a secondary spindle throttle on the stove's side to evaporate fuel instead of the generator coil.

Another issue is that it requires different jets for each kind of fuel. This means that if you're cooking on kerosene, the jet hole must be smaller than when cooking with gas. This isn't a major issue however it's important to mention.

MSR Whisper Lite

The MSR Whisper Lite stove is one of the tiniest, lightest and most affordable multi-fuel stoves. It is also easy to repair on the field. It is able to be used with canister or liquid fuel and comes with attachments for both. The new model is lighter by 10% than its predecessor, and the burner system has been redesigned to improve heat distribution. This is a great option for backpackers on a tight budget or for beginners.

It takes some time to install, prime and boil water, but the whistler Lite is a reliable camping stove that will not let you down. The flame is extremely powerful when it is turned to the max and can easily boil one liter of water within two minutes or less. The only drawback is that it's not as effective for simmering as some other stoves.

This is the reason MSR has designed the Dragonfly stove, which is an efficient simmering burner. It's a similar design to the whistler, but it's more compact and provides more performance. It's not as inexpensive as the Whistler Lite. The Soto Amicus cookset and stove is an excellent alternative that offers similar features for less than half the price. Whisperlite International and Universal can be used with isobutane. The same basic design is used in both, but the Universal version can also be used with canister fuel as well.

Coleman Sportster II

Like many Coleman stoves, this is a no frills, rough and ready unit that gets the job done. It's strong compact and self-contained, with the tank on the bottom and burner up at the top. This makes it simple to use and an excellent choice for beginners, backpackers who want to save on weight, and for those of us who like to keep a backup or two in the van.

The stove is designed to burn Coleman's exclusive fuel (naptha gas, also referred to as white gas) This stove can be used with unleaded gasoline too. This will save you money since gasoline tanks can last as long as the conventional Coleman liquid fuel cylinder.

Liquid fuel stoves have a learning curve as you'll need to properly pressurize and prime them before you can create a beautiful blue flame going. If you do it wrong the fuel could pool, spray beyond the burner, or even splash out. To get the hang of this do some practice outside before your excursion.

This stove does give up some performance or odor reduction with non-coleman fuels however that's a trade off for the extra flexibility it offers. Be sure to buy unleaded gasoline and not something enhanced with methanol or (alcohol). These kinds of fuels can cause the unit's performance to decline and even explode.

double sided multifuel stove from South Africa is an ultralight multifuel engineered for harsh environments like Africa. It's an extremely compact and reliable all-in-one system that burns alcohol, solid fuel tabs, and also gels using a single nozzle. It is a minimalist, ultralight design that costs less than other multifuel stoves. The fuel is also less expensive per liter compared to gas canisters.

Some multifuel stoves also have an individual nozzle for each type of fuel. This makes them difficult to switch between fuels in bad weather or with gloves and can add to their weight overall. Multifuel stoves of the newer type have a single nozzle that can burn multiple fuels, which makes it easier. The latest models of these stoves are referred to as 'hybrid', or 'compressed fuel multifuel stoves' and there are many names for them, including isobutane canister fuel white gas, kerosene, and unleaded car petrol/gasoline.

A multifuel stove kit is available to transform your Trangia burners into multifuel cookers. These are available at camping stores that specialize in outdoor equipment and are available internationally. They are perfect for Trangia enthusiasts. They can burn all liquid fuels apart from diesel and, with the right accessories, they can even simmer.
