Counter Speltdalah mantra yang memiliki efek kontra / berlawanan dengan efek mantra lain.
Counter Spell terbagi menjadi beberapa jenis:
- Counter Charm (untuk mantra jenis charm)
- Counter Jinx (untuk mantra jenis jinx)
- Counter Curse (untuk mantra jenis curse)
Selain itu, ada juga Counter Spell yang fungsinya melindungi target dari efek. Counter Spell ini dibagi menjadi:
1. Anti Jinx
2. Anti Charm
Ada juga mantra yang termasuk Counter Spell namun tidak diklasifikasikan ke dalam counter charm, counter jinx, ataupun counter curse. Mantra ini sering dikenal sebagai Undifferentiated Counter Spell.
Contohnya adalah finite, finite incantatem, dan meteolojinx recanto.
Mantra meteolojinx recanto digunakan untuk menghentikan gejala cuaca yang disebabkan oleh sihir, misalnya seperti efek malam yang sengaja dibuat menggunakan sihir.
Selain itu, ada juga istilah lain dalam Counter Spell yaitu General Counter Spell. Mantra yang termasuk ke dalam General Counter Spell fungsinya adalah menghentikan efek dari hampir semua jenis mantra. Contohnya adalah mantra finite dan finite incantatem.
Contoh Spell dan Counter Spellnya:
* Lumos - Nox
Lumos ---> untuk menciptakan cahaya kecil pada wand
Nox ---> untuk mematikan cahaya pada wand dari mantra lumos
* Colloportus - Alohomora
Colloportus ---> untuk mengunci pintu / jendela sehingga tidak bisa terbuka secara manual
Pelafalan Colloportus = cull-low-PORE-tus
Alohomora ---> untuk membuka pintu / jendela yang terkunci baik secara manual ataupun karena dimantrai Colloportus.
Pelafalan Alohomora = al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah
* Sonorus - Quietus
Sonorus ---> untuk membesarkan volume suara target baik itu makhluk hidup ataupun benda mati
Pelafalan Sonorus = soh-NOHR-us
Quietus ---> untuk mengecilkan volume suara target baik itu makhluk hidup ataupun benda mati
Pelafalan Quietus = KWIY-uh-tusr
