If you’d rather not bring large amounts of cash to Taiwan, then an alternative would be to withdraw NTD from an ATM. Rates are comparable but be sure to inform your bank that you plan on using your ATM card abroad so you don’t run into any problems. In my experience, my ATM card works in some machines but not others. Most people will probably arrive in Hualien already with NTD, but if you need to change currency, then you can do so at any bank.

Highway 11 runs parallel to Highway 9, but along the coast. There’s no train here, so you’ll need to rent a scooter, charter a car with driver, or rent a car. Liyushan Park, situated on a mountain, derives its name from a fish legend. This park boasts well-maintained paved trails that offer mesmerizing panoramic views. The trail might be a little steep in some parts, but it is relatively easy to navigate overall.
Although it’s not my cup of tea, and I’d rather sea dolphins in the wild such as on this dolphin and whale watching tour, Farglory is quite popular. If you’re exploring the area by scooter, you can even go as far as Sanxiantai on coastal Highway 11 in one day, which we did one time. Just follow Highway 30, which connects highway 9 with the coast. Ruisui Sunshine B&B (see on Booking / Agoda / TripAdvisor) offers beautiful rooms with a private tub on your own balcony complete with mountain views.

On the road trip, travelers can enjoy the charming view of Coastal Ridge on one side and broad Pacific Ocean on the other. The whole trip presents many cultural and natural attractions to tourists from all over the world. There are plenty of delicious goodies to eat in Taitung, but when coming up with a list of the most representative Taitung dishes, traditional rice noodles will always be at the top. A famous and long-time traditional rice noodle store in Taitung, “A-Mi Rice Noodles,” is located on Fujian Rd. in Taitung City.
If you want to watch the train passing by, need to have luck and don’t trust the train schedule post outside the station. Be careful traversing on the rocks around to the lighthouse. There’s a lot of fun to be had on Day 6 of your Taitung travel itinerary, with plenty of family-friendly attractions to explore. Taitung is a city that caters to all ages, and there are many things to do with kids. Start your day off by visiting the Fugang Fishery Harbor, where you can see local fishermen bringing in their catch and even try your hand at fishing.
