The Best Pod Coffee Machines
Pod coffee machines let you put a capsule that contains ground or roasted coffee beans into the machine. Then the coffee pours through for a set time period to create your drink.
Certain pod coffee machine s come with multiple cup sizes and frothing milk capabilities. The best pod coffee machine for you is based on your personal preferences and your lifestyle.
1. Keurig K-Select
This machine is an excellent choice if you are looking for an Keurig coffee maker that doesn't come with all the bells, whistles and features of more expensive models. It is easy to use and has a stunning design. When not in use, it can be easily hidden away in the kitchen.
The machine can be noisy but that's not a major problem. It is also small enough to fit on a counter with a small space. If you're looking for a Keurig that has a larger variety of sizes or a carafe for traditional drip brewing, look at other alternatives.
The Keurig K-Select single serve coffee maker comes with a sleek design with more useful features to help you make the perfect cup every time. Pick from a variety of delicious K-Cup pods, or make your own ground coffee using My-K-Cup's universal coffee filter that can be reused (sold separately). The Strong Brew feature kicks up the intensity and strength of your coffee, making it the best choice for coffee lovers who enjoy a bold cup.
This brewer is easy to use, using simple button controls. Just insert a K-Cup pod, choose the desired brew size, and then press the brew button. In less than a minute, you'll have a fresh cup of coffee waiting to enjoy. The large water reservoir of 52 ounces lets you brew up to five cups in between refills, easing your morning routine.
The Keurig is simple to clean, with an easily accessible reservoir for water and a lid which can be easily washed. But, you must clean your Keurig before cleaning, and follow the instructions in the user's manual to ensure that your machine is operating at its peak. This warranty covers all original accessories and the brewer, excluding for normal wear or abuse as well as external causes like power outages.
2. Tassimo My Way
This is the best option for coffee lovers who want a machine that can do more than just making your regular cup. It's designed to make diverse range of drinks, including hot chocolate and tea. It has a large 1.3 millilitre water tank that can make multiple cups at a time. The machine warms up in just three seconds, and can create the perfect cappuccino or latte using its milk jug built-in. It also features a touch-sensitive screen that allows you to alter the intensity, temperature and volume of your drink.
The Tassimo My Way uses the brand's T Discs that contain everything you require for your favorite drink. There are more than 70 varieties to select from, from brands such as Kenco and Costa to Costa, Milka and Cadbury's. The machine also offers T discs for hot chocolate and tea as well.
We discovered the coffee it produced to be of excellent quality, though just a little less than some of the other pod machines we have reviewed in this round-up. It also steamed the milk to make the caffe latte in a short time and produced a creamy mouthfeel, but not too thick. It is important to know that the frothy T Disc milk has sugar in it, which, while not a major issue, may not be to everyone's liking.
Tassimo My Way's removable parts, the drip tray and the water tank are dishwasher-safe. There's an Brita filter included and a cleaning disc that can be used as well. A helpful indicator light will let you know when you need to descale. a water tank will keep limescale at an absolute minimum. The machine is Energy Star rated, which reduces the power consumption of up to 15%..
3. Lavazza Lungo Pod Machine
This Nespresso-compatible pod coffee maker from Lavazza which was developed in collaboration with Sage, is one of the best-looking machines on the market. It's made with tough and attractive materials, comes with a neat adjustable steam wand for making lattes and cappuccinos as well as an stainless steel milk jug. Pop in a pod and choose the cup size and the machine whirs into action, brewing espresso, lungo, double espresso gran lungo, alto and mug drinks with a thick layer of silky foam.
Like most pod machines, you load a pod through a hatch at the top of the machine and drop it into place. The machine pierces the capsule before closing it in such a way that when you lift the lever, the used pod falls into a dedicated empty pod tray underneath the drip tray.
It's not the fastest machine for brewing in 30 seconds for an espresso shot and 90 seconds for a lungo but the results are consistently impressive, with great crema and a smooth, rich taste. The machine will also inform you when it is time to refill the water tank or pod bin.
One of the main selling points for this machine is that it can use it with any Lavazza-branded pod Seven pods are available in all, including espresso ground (Qualita Rossa, Intenso, Passionale and Delizioso) and two decaffeinated (Dek Cremoso) and two organic coffees (!Tierra! Bio). The pod coffee machine is not inexpensive, but if you combine it with pod delivery services, the price can be similar to an ordinary bean-to-cup machine. The machine's slim design means it can be tucked away in the smallest kitchens, while the pods are compostable so you can pop them into your local food waste bins, or even your own garden compost.
4. Nespresso Vertuo Pod Machine
Nespresso machines are among the best pod coffee makers for those who are looking for an efficient steady, reliable, and consistent brew. They are quick to heat up and are extremely simple to use. Simply insert a capsule, press the button, and you're done. They produce a rich, creamy crema that can be added to drinks for more flavor and a thicker layer. They're not cheap, though they are expensive, and you need to purchase their official pods.
The Vertuo line is based on different technology than OriginalLine machines that use espresso capsules (and are still in existence). The Vertuo line scans the barcode of each capsule and adjusts the brewing parameters to create the perfect cup. They also have a centrifusion device that spins the capsules in order to make the best flavor and thickest crema.
The machines aren't quite as intuitive as our other choices. The lid opens only when the machine is ready and it takes about 30 seconds for the capsule to warm up. It doesn't include the milk frother like some of the other pod machines in this list. You'll have spend an extra PS90 to purchase a separate Aeroccino to make cappuccinos and lattes.
These machines also require more maintenance than other models - refilling the water tank and emptying the pod containers used for descaling - but they have an app that reminds you to do these tasks, and provides tools such as store locators and capsule recyclers. If you connect your machine to an IntelliPort you can control it with voice commands. This is great if you are making coffee at 4am in the dark or are limited in strength.
5. SMEG Barista Pod Machine
This sleek pod coffee machine is the lovechild of a beloved Italian brand and a renowned kitchen appliance company. It features the modern, sleek curves SMEG are renowned for, and can make both espresso and lungo drinks. It comes with a programable setting for the shot, two-height drip tray, and a removable pod bin.
This coffee maker allows you to make an instant cup of lungo or espresso in the morning or during your break at work. Its easy-to-use control panel makes it appear sleek and doesn't detract from its function. It comes with three different baskets for different capsule types. You can also use loose ground beans (although you'll need to own a separate grinder).
The SMEG Barista Pod Machine doesn't include a milk pitcher, however, it does come with an inbuilt Pannarello milk frother that can froth soymilk and cow milk quite nicely. It also has a portafilter of 51mm which is smaller than the standard commercial style filter. It's pressurized and this is a plus since it means you won't get that stale, leftover grind taste. It also includes a plastic tamper which doubles as a scoop.
The SMEG is one of the most expensive pod machines we've reviewed but it's well worth it if you're a lover of the retro style or if you like being able to whip up espresso-based drinks. This is a great option when you're new to making coffee and do not want to deal with the hassle of measuring, grinding and tamping beans by yourself.
