How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob
Every car must have a key fob that has a transmitter/remote that can lock and unlock your vehicle. The batteries inside these devices last for a period of and can eventually go bad.
If you are thinking of buying a Saab 93 and don't have two keys, you can purchase one for about $400. This is done by purchasing a new TWICE Module at the dealer, and installing it using a specific hand-held device, called a Tech2.
Key Replacement
Many pre-owned Saabs only have one key. It is recommended, whenever you can, to purchase a spare key. This will be less expensive than replacing the entire vehicle if you lose it. It is also crucial to rotate your keys frequently so one does not get all the wear and tear and also to keep them clean.
If you lose your sole key you will need to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) module together with a new key and special programming to convince the car that you are not trying to steal it. The replacement of these modules could be more than $400 and the components are shipped out, which means it's not a same-day job for the majority of locksmiths, or even dealers.
The good news is that the majority of modern Saab automobiles can have a second key added to the system without having to replace the original computer inside the vehicle. The dealer will utilize a handheld computer known as Tech-2 to program the second key into the vehicle. Some independent garages are able do this, but the procedure is more complex and they must reprogramme the EEPROM on your car's computer in order to accept the new key.
saab 93 key replacement for keys
Saab owners with a key that was stolen or lost require replacement in the earliest time possible. The steps required to obtain a second working Saab 9-3 fob will require the service department at the dealer and can cost hundreds, including an entirely new key and TWICE device, which is a central electronic with a theft warning feature.
If you have a spare key the process is less costly. The new key has to be matched to the original TWICE Module. A used one is not compatible. However, a genuine OEM replacement can be purchased from a dealer at only a fraction of the price it will cost.
It is simple to remove the case from a brand new SAAB Key Fob. Utilize a flathead to pry the case open however, be sure to avoid damaging the electronic components inside. After you have removed the battery and electronics you can then replace the case with the shell of the previous key fob. Place the two pieces in a line and gently press them together so that they click into the correct position. Once the new fob is installed and synchronized, you can use it again. It is important to know that adding a key is more complicated than replacing an emergency key. The dealer will need to use a special tool called the Tech-2.
Keys for replacement ignition
If the car's key won't start or turn on when you turn the ignition on, or it doesn't turn on when you press the starter button, first make sure the transmission is in Park. This will stop your car from moving if the lock in your transmission fails or if your manual transmission pops into gear.
In most instances, it's the electronic components on the key fob, which determine how the car recognizes the key after it's been inserted into the ignition. The key made of metal is fairly easy to duplicate, but the electronic part in the key fob is what will allow the car to recognize the key.
This is not something a locksmith can do. It has to be handled by a dealer or a specific handheld computer referred to as a Tech2. Locksmiths aren't able to do this. It can only be done through a dealer, or a handheld computer known as Tech2.
If you already have a working key fob, adding another shouldn't cost more than $200. The other cost is the actual making of the metal key in the event you require it. Most dealers will also do this, however it can take a couple of weeks to get the part and car programmed.
Replacement Remotes
The Saab 9-3's cabin is designed from the driver's perspective outward, with logical layouts and an olfactory feel to the controls. The dashboard wraps around the driver, and features a fun turbo gauge to add an individual touch to its instrumentation. The steering wheels made of leather feature audio, cruise control, and phone controls.
The console in between the seats is equipped with only one cupholder, while the knobs for the Bose audio and dual-zone climate controls are placed in a way that is logical. The touch-screen display can be distracting while driving.
The 9-3 is a great performance in terms of power. The base low pressure turbo model takes about 8 seconds to reach a speed of 60 mph, while the more powerful Viggen can do it in just 6.9 seconds.
The handling of this car is a key element to its success. Despite its weight distribution of 60/40 front-to-back the Turbo X is agile and balanced when driving on two-lane highways.
Fuel economy is the only drawback to this car's impressive dynamic. It gets about 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway with the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. A special version Turbo X version with more power is available however only for 2008. The model has a unique rear seat that folds flat to maximize the space for cargo. It also comes with a distinctive rear spoiler, as well as an aggressive bumper.
