With the foundation stone laying ceremony being organized in April, the EV battery manufacturing plant is divided into two major areas. The first one is the battery assembly line which is with full automation via state-of-the-art robotic technology, laser welding systems for accuracy as well as CCD vision systems to cross-check the standards of each battery pack with its prototype prior to being installed into an all-electric car. The other core zone is allocated for battery testing and validation comprising over sixty processes such as Charge & Discharge, Air Leak Test, Insulation Test and Static Test. The production line can manufacturing up to fifty thousand cell-to-pack EV battery packs per year, with the quality equivalent to those produced for global markets. Battery packs manufactured at the manufacturing plant are slated to be first installed in MG4 ELECTRIC and other other models going forward. At present, the factory is in its preparatory production phases with plans to officially open next year.

Zhao Feng, CEO of SAIC Motor-CP, stated, "The EV battery shop is part of the development plan for the NEW ENERGY INDUSTRIAL PARK situated inside WHA ESIE 2 industrial zone in Chonburi province designated for the domestic production of electric vehicles. With the additional investment outlay of 500 million baht, the plant has been configured for the production of Cell-To-Pack (CTP) EV batteries utilizing the new cube battery design. With the robust growth and growing opportunity for Thailand's EV market, SAIC MOTOR CORPORATION and HASCO-CP realize the prospects to become a manufacturing base for EVs catering to domestic and international distribution, especially among Southeast Asian nations."
