How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob
Every car should be equipped with a key fob and a remote or transmitter that can lock and unlock your car. saab key programmer G28CarKeys in these devices last for a period of that is a bit shorter, and they can get bad.
If you're considering buying a Saab 93 and don't have two keys, you can add one for around $400. This requires purchasing a brand new TWICE module at the dealer and installing it with the hand-held computer that is called Tech2. Tech2.
Keys Replacement
A lot of used Saabs come with one key. It is a good idea as soon as you can to purchase a spare key. It will cost less than replacing the entire vehicle if you lose it. It is essential to rotate your keys regularly to keep them from wearing and tear.
If you lose your only key, you'll have to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) module together with a new key and a special program to convince the car you're not attempting to steal it. The replacement of these modules could cost more than $400. The parts are available for purchase via mail, so it's not an immediate job for the majority of locksmiths or dealers.
The good news is, most modern Saab vehicles can have a secondary key added to the system. This is possible without having to replace the original computer. The dealer will need to use a special handheld computer called Tech-2 Tech-2 to insert the second key and then program it into the vehicle. Certain independent garages can also do this but the process is more complex. They must reprogram your existing car computer's EEPROM to accept the new key.
Replacement Key Fobs
Saab owners whose previous key was lost or stolen will need to replace it as soon as they can. The steps involved in getting a second working Saab 9-3 key fob will require the service department of the dealer and can cost hundreds of dollars, including the cost of a brand new key, a brand new TWICE module (theft warning with integrated central electronics), and reprogramming to convince the car that the additional key isn't stolen.
If you have a spare key the process is much less costly. The new key should be paired to the original module, and a used one is unlikely to function in this application, but a genuine OEM replacement is usually purchased from a dealer for just a fraction of the cost.
It is easy to remove the case from a new SAAB Key Fob. You can use a flathead screwdriver break open the case, however, be cautious not to damage the electronics within. After you have removed the battery and electronics and battery, you can put a new case into the existing shell of the original fob. Place the two pieces in a line and gently press them in to allow them to click into place. After everything is in place and synchronized, you can use the new fob. Be aware that installing a key can be more difficult than replacing the emergency key. The dealer will need to use a special tool known as the Tech-2.
Keys to the ignition replacement
First, ensure that the transmission is in Park. This will stop your car from slipping away when the lock for the transmission fails or your manual transmission pops out of gear.
In the majority of cases the issue lies with the electronics inside the key fob, which controls how the car recognizes the key when it is in the ignition cylinder. The metal key itself is relatively easy to duplicate but the electronic component in the key fob is what makes the car recognize the key.
Making an additional key for the Saab car requires a specific transmitter, a transponder that goes along with it, and some sort of special programming for the vehicle to convince the computer that it is not trying to steal the vehicle. Locksmiths are not able accomplish this. It can only be done through a dealer or a handheld computer known as Tech2.
The good news is that, if you already have one working key fob the cost of adding another should be less than $200 or at least. If you need a metal key, the cost of making it is a different issue. A majority of dealers can make this as well, but it could take several weeks to receive the key and the car programmed.
Replacement Remotes
The Saab 9-3's cabin is designed with the driver in mind, with logical layouts and a tactile feel to the controls. The dashboard of the Saab 9-3 is designed to arc around the driver and has the turbo vacuum gauge, which gives a unique feel. A leather-wrapped steering column has audio, cruise control and phone controls.
A single cupholder is placed on the console between the front seats, and knobs for dual-zone climate control as well as the Bose audio system are placed according to logic. A touch-screen display integrates navigation and music functions, but the system could be distracting while driving.
In terms of power the 9-3 is a competent performer. Its low-pressure turbo model takes about 8 seconds to reach 60 mph, while the more potent Viggen can reach that speed in 6.9 seconds.
The handling of this car is a major aspect of its success. Despite its heavy nose and 60/40 front-to-rear weight distribution, the Turbo X feels agile and composed on two-lane highways.
The only downside of this car's remarkable performance is its fuel consumption. It's estimated to get 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg highway with the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. A special version Turbo X version with more power is available however only for 2008. The model has a unique rear-seat that can be folded flat into the floor to maximize the space for cargo. It also has a unique rear spoiler, and a more aggressive bumper.
