How to Find a Skoda Fabia Replacement Key
The skoda Fabia is the most affordable and fun hatchback in Czech company's line-up. It is built on the same platform as Volkswagen Group stablemates like the VW Polo and Seat Ibiza and is now offering more room in all dimensions.
With sculpted razor sharp looks and the latest infotainment and security technologies, and the world's largest boot space of 380 litres it's an impressive package. It also comes with a number of Simply Clever features like nets that prevent luggage from sliding, and clips that attach boot partitions.
Battery
Dead coin batteries are a common reason for a key fob not being able to unlock or lock the car. There are signs that the battery is about to run out for example, the range of the key fob reducing over time. If you've tried everything including reprogramming your key or using an additional fob, then it's likely that the coin-cell battery is faulty.
The procedure for replacing the battery is simple. You simply need to open the housing section of the transmitter with a screwdriver and take off the cover. Remove the old battery, and replace it with a brand new one. Make sure that the direction of the new battery is correct. The symbol with the '+' should be facing downwards. Once you've inserted the new battery, close the transmitter housing section and insert it into the front part of the key fob, so that both parts click together.
Press any button on the remote control for about 15 seconds after replacing the battery. This will ensure the vehicle recognizes your key as a valid replacement and will allow keyless entry correctly. If you've never done this, the key might not respond to commands via the remote. It's likely to require reprogramming. The owner's guide will explain the reprogramming process.
Transponder
The key fob is equipped with a microchip inside that communicates with your car to unlock the doors or start the engine. The chip is digital in identification that stops the car from starting without the right key. The digital identity makes cloning or copying transponders more difficult and reduces the risk that your vehicle will be left unattended. However, it is not foolproof and criminals can still gain entry using a variety of methods.
If the key doesn't function, there may be something wrong with the key fob battery or some other component. In this situation the best way to proceed is to try and discover the cause. Examine the voltage of the batteries using a multimeter. If the battery is in good condition it is possible that something else is causing the key fob to not function.
When replacing a battery, make sure that it is the right size. The battery should fit in the small slot in the plastic housing. It should be a 3 volt 2032 CR2032. These batteries are common and can be purchased from the internet or at many auto stores. Ask a locksmith for assistance when you're unable to find the correct replacement battery. They will be able to provide you with the right battery for the key fob.
Case
The coin battery in a key fob may last up to four years, based on how much it is used. The fob will typically exhibit signs of weakness like a lower range or buttons that don't respond. When the battery goes out then you'll need to replace it. You can purchase a brand new battery online or in your local auto shop. Make sure you purchase an identical battery in terms of size, voltage, and specification as your old one.
Changing the battery in your key fob is simple. The cover of the transmitter is removed using your thumb or a flat screwdriver to the point of the arrow. Then, remove the flat battery and insert the new one. The new battery should be placed so that the + symbol is facing up.
Damage to the water supply could be the cause of the inability to function of the key fob after replacing the battery. If it was exposed to clean tap water the device should be able to function again after being dried thoroughly. However, if the key fob was exposed to salt water, soapy water or even seawater, it is likely that the chip has been damaged and will not function again. If this is the case, you will have to visit a Skoda dealer for reprogramming of the remote keyless system.
Key
Skoda Fabia comes with a remote-keyless system that allows owners to lock and unlock their car with one touch. The key has transponder chip that disables the vehicle's standard immobiliser. When reprogramming skoda key fob G28 Car Keys is put into the ignition, it sends a radio signal to receiver module, which causes the engine of the car to start. You can utilize an OBD diagnostic tool to determine the cause of the remote keyless system if it is not working. Make sure the 12 volts battery is fully charged and that all electrical connectors are clean before using the OBD tool.
The most frequent reason for a Fabia remote key not working is a dead coin battery inside the key fob. Often the key fob will show signs of a faulty battery, including an intermittent or reduced range. It is important to use batteries that have the same voltage, type and size as the original.
If the key fob was exposed to rain or clean tap water, it can be cleaned with paper towels and isopropyl Alcohol. If the key fob was submerged in water that was soapy or dirty, or dropped on the ground and dried improperly the electronic chip might be damaged.
