How to Reprogram a Skoda Key Fob
Many people ask how to reprogram the car key fob, when they aren't sure the reason for why it stopped working. This is normal, as key fobs are often jostled around and buttons may break or become stuck.
First, try changing the battery. If this doesn't help then it may be time to replace the device.
1. Switch off the ignition.
It is likely that the battery inside the key fob has to be replaced if the key has suddenly stopped working. The batteries are inexpensive and easy to replace therefore this is the first thing to do before trying to reprogram the key.
Make sure that the vehicle is turned off and the doors are locked. Insert your current key in the ignition and then turn the switch to "On". Do not turn the engine on.
Press the lock button on the keyfob within five minutes. You will hear the car's lock lock and unlock to confirm your success in entering programming mode. You can now use the key fob both to lock and unlock your vehicle as well as program other remotes. This procedure can also be used to reset a malfunctioning or damaged key fob. This is often required if you have dropped, and stepped on, or exposed the key fob to water.
2. Turn the ignition on
You'll only need a couple of minutes to reprogram the key fobs correctly. The first thing you have to do is turn on the ignition. This will reset the computer and give you a fresh start.
Close all your car doors. You don't want any doors to open during this process because it could cause disruption to your program. After you've closed all doors then turn the ignition to "On" and insert the primary key.
After the engine has turned on After the engine is turned on, press the lock button on your fob six times over 10 seconds. If you hear the doors unlocking of your car this means that the programming mode is successful. Repeat the process for any additional remotes you'll need to program. However, keep in mind that you must program each remote promptly following the first one, as a delay could cause it to fail.
3. Press the Lock Button
The key fob is a small remote that can be used to lock and unlock the car. It also has a panic alarm that can be used to call for help in an emergency situation. The key fob may fail to function due to a variety of reasons, including batteries that are damaged or dead.
If the key fob is not functioning properly, you may try to reprogram it following the steps below. This method will work for most vehicles, but it is important to follow the exact instructions in your vehicle's instruction manual.
Start the process by turning the car on using the ignition key, but without starting the motor. Press the "unlock", "panic" and "lock" buttons on the fob for a few seconds. You should hear a click sound, which indicates the key fob was programmed successfully.
4. Press the Unlock Button
A new key fob needs to be linked with your car in order to unlock and start it. You can do it yourself, but you'll need a few things about how to program the Skoda key fob.
You'll require a long and thin tool to press the lock button inside your vehicle. The best choice is a long, thin wire coat hanger.
First, open the vehicle's doors before closing them. Press skoda car keys on the fob numerous times. This will cause your car to emit a sound to inform you that the keyfob has been reset. After this, you should be able to use the lock and unlock buttons normally. If they don't work then you'll have to bring your car to a dealer.
5. Press the Panic Button
The "Panic Button" on your key fob is a useful feature to help you locate your car in parking lots that are crowded. It's also an effective method to deter thieves. The button can trigger an alarm in your car which can deter criminals who may think you're a vulnerable target.
If the panic button doesn't work after reprogramming the key fob it could be because the battery was installed incorrectly. In this scenario, you will need to replace the key fob's battery.
Open the key fob and separate the transmitter portion from the main portion. Remove the expired battery from the transmitter section and insert a new one with the proper direction of operation. Reassemble the key fob, and test out its locking and unlocking functions. If this doesn't work, you will have to restart the reprogramming process or contact a locksmith near you.
6. Press the Lock Button
Updated April 17th, 2023: If your key fob does not unlock doors, it might be the time to change the button-cell battery. The small silver battery is easy to replace with a screwdriver or fingernail.
When you have a new battery, follow the steps to reprogram the key fob. Be sure to have all doors closed, because leaving one open could cause disruption to the process. After you've done this then turn the ignition on to "On", but do not start the engine.
Once the key fob is programmed then press the lock button within five seconds. You should hear a ring as the car locks up to confirm the success of the process. Repeat this procedure for any additional remotes that you want to program into your car. If the key fob doesn't work it could be a wiring fault or an antenna issue, software issues, or a damaged board. You might need to take it to a retailer for reprogramming.
