5 Clarifications Regarding Saab Key Fob
How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob

All cars should have a key fob with a remote or transmitter that can lock and unlock your car. The batteries that are used in these devices may be defective.

You can add a second key to a Saab 93 for about $400 if you don't already have two. This requires purchasing a brand TWICE module at the dealer, then installing it using a specific hand-held device known as Tech2. Tech2.

Keys Replacement

Many pre-owned Saabs only have one key. It is a good idea, as soon as you can, to buy a spare key. This will be cheaper than replacing the entire vehicle in case you lose it. It is essential to rotate the keys in order to reduce wear and tear.

If you lose your primary key, you'll have to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) module along with a new key and a special program to convince the car you're not trying to steal it. The replacement of these modules could cost upwards of $400, and the parts are available for purchase via mail, so it's not a same-day job for the majority of locksmiths or dealers.

The good news is, most modern Saab vehicles can have a second key that can be added to the system. This is possible without having to replace the original computer. The dealer will have to use a special handheld computer known as Tech-2 Tech-2 to insert the second key and then program it into the vehicle. Some garages that are independent can also do this but the process is more complicated and they will require reprogramming the EEPROM of your car's computer to accept the new key.

Replacement key fobs

Saab owners with a key that was lost or stolen will need to replace it in the earliest time possible. The steps required to obtain a second working Saab 9-3 fob require the services department of the dealer and will cost hundreds of dollars, including a new key and a TWICE module that is a central electronic theft warning.

It is less expensive to do this should you have a spare. The new key has to be matched to the original TWICE Module. An old one will not work. However, a genuine OEM replacement can be purchased from a dealer for a fraction of what it will cost.

It's easy to remove the case from a brand new SAAB Key Fob. Make use of a flathead for prying open the case, but be careful to avoid damaging the electronics inside. After you have removed the electronics and battery then you can replace the case with the shell of the old key fob. Make sure you align the two parts and gently press them together so that they click into place. Once the new fob has been installed and synchronized, you can use it again. It is important to know that installing a key can be more complicated than replacing the emergency key. The dealer will need to use a special tool called the Tech-2.

Keys to Replace Ignition

If the car's key won't start when you turn it on or it won't start when you press the starter button, first check that the transmission is in Park. This will prevent your car from slipping away when the lock for the transmission fails or the manual transmission slams out of gear.

In most cases the issue lies with the electronic components of the key fob which control how the car detects the key after it has been inserted into the ignition cylinder. The key made of metal is easy to copy but it is the electronic part of the key fob that helps the car recognize keys.

Making an additional key for the Saab car requires a specific transmitter with a transponder with it and some kind of special programming of the car to convince the computer it is not trying to steal the vehicle. This is not something a locksmith can do, it has to be done by a dealer or a specific handheld computer known as Tech2. Tech2.

The good news is that if there's one key fob that is working, the cost of adding another should be less than $200 or more. The other expense is the actual production of the metal key if you need it. Most dealers can also make this happen, but it can take a couple of weeks to get the car and the part programmed.

Replacement Remotes

The Saab 9-3's cabin is designed from the driver outward with clear layouts and an olfactory feel to the controls. The dashboard is curved around the driver, featuring the fun turbo vacuum gauge that adds an original touch to its instrumentation. Leather-wrapped steering wheels feature audio, cruise control and phone controls.

A single cupholder can be found on the console between the front seats, while knobs for dual-zone climate control as well as the Bose audio system are arranged in a way that is logical. The touch-screen display can be distracting when driving.

In terms of power the 9-3 is a capable performer. Its low pressure turbo model takes around 8 seconds to reach speeds of 60 mph while the more powerful Viggen can reach 60 mph in just 6.9 seconds.

The handling of this car is an important element to its success. Despite its nose-heavy 60/40 front-to-rear weight distribution the Turbo X feels agile and composed on two-lane highways.

Fuel economy is the main disadvantage to this car's remarkable performance. saab key fob gets about 27 mpg city and 35 mpg on the highway with the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. The Turbo X special edition with more power will be available in 2008 only. This model has a unique rear-seat that can be folded flat on the floor to maximize cargo space. It also comes with a unique rear spoiler, as well as a more aggressive bumper.
