Saab Key Programming
Saab cars that were built prior to 1994 have an immobilizer system made up of coded keys. To add an additional key, you need an entirely new transponder and programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
This can be expensive. This is why you should always keep a spare key in your possession.
Transponder key
The transponder keys are keys with an electronic chip that sends a signal back to the car when it is placed in the ignition. The car then checks to see whether the signal is the same as the one on the key. If the signals are in sync then the car will be able to unlock and begin. This is a great method to deter car theft and keep your vehicle secure from thieves.
Transponder keys may be a popular addition to cars, but they are not as safe as traditional keys made of metal. While the metal parts of a traditional key could be cut and copied, a transponder is protected by an electronic chip. The chip is a unique code that's programmed into a car's computers in order to identify it.
When a Saab key fob is used, the car recognizes it and allows it to turn on. However, it will only do this if the fob has an unmodified chip that has been programmed to match the original. Otherwise, the car would reject the key and won't start.
It's important to make sure that you have a spare key for your Saab. This is especially true when you live in a rural region where there are numerous car thieves. You can get a brand new key for your Saab by going to the dealership and not paying their expensive prices. You can have the replacement key on the spot for less than half the cost you would spend at an auto dealer.
Key for Wired
Saab cars are usually supplied with two keys. If you only have one, you should get an additional key as fast as you can. This is because if it's lost and the car is damaged, it will require a new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This can be costly especially for used vehicles.
The next step is to wire the row and column wires to the microcontroller. This is the most difficult part of the project and will require a good deal of soldering. It's not a standard way to go about it, however, you should consider how you will route and connect each column and row. For this keyboard, there are five rows and 17 columns. So there will be 22 microcontroller wires and pins to connect.
After the columns and rows are joined, it is time to connect the key switches. To do this, you need to place a diode over each pin on the key switch and solder it. This will shield the pins from current, thus preventing them from being shorted. A diode permits current to only flow in only one direction. It comes with a visual indicator with a black band that shows which way current will flow.
Some of the tools offered at auto parts storeslike the Autel MaxiIM IM608 Pro and IM508 -- could help customers in the shop, or even DIY users in some cases programme replacement keys and recover lost immobilizer data, Sanabria says. The tools connect to OBD ports and guide the user through each step, making the process easier than replacing the car's computer.
Jumpstarting the battery
The majority of people have an item in their trunk to jump-start their vehicle in the event of an emergency, but it may not be a good idea for cars with more modern technology. These cars are equipped with a variety of computers and digital devices which communicate with one another. A voltage spike when a battery is hooked up to another battery could fry these components and leave your car undriveable.
Connect the cables to the vehicle that is working. Allow it to run for two minutes. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal on the battery that is good (it will have "POS" or "+" on it). Attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted, clean metal surface underneath the car's hood--the engine block is a good choice. Do not connect the black cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery, as it could spark a spark that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.
Once the cables are connected, you can start the vehicle and let it run for about five minutes. Then, disconnect the cables in reverse. The battery in your Saab 9-3 will be recharged as you drive. It takes a while for it to fall back. It is recommended to purchase a second key fob, as soon as possible. Replacing the one that works requires the installation and programming of a new computer chip.
Replacement Case
Saab owners typically only have one car key, and if that is lost, they will be charged. It's expensive to add an additional key and it requires replacing the CIM or TWICE in the case of older models. In the event of theft or any other disaster it is best to have a spare key. replacement saab car keys buy a secondhand key, even the case that it's "new." Keys that are claimed-new from a second-hand store will not be effective and are almost guaranteed to fail in the most critical moment.
The dealer will charge you top dollar if you only have one working key. However, we can reset and re-program your computer's EEPROM to prepare it to accept the new key, without replacing the entire system. This could save you lots of money. It's also less expensive than waiting until you lose the only key.
