Dual-Effective Persistent Wounds Administration Technique by way of a Monoglyceride Binary Blend Matrix Primarily based Thermal-Responsive Phase-Transition Substrate.
Cu/ZnO catalysts with varied Cu/(Cu + Zn) molar ratios were prepared by a facile solid-state method. The Cu/(Cu + Zn) molar ratio displayed a significant effect on the oxygen vacancy formation of the calcined catalysts, thereby influencing the CuO-ZnO interaction and the reducibility of CuO. The Cu/(Cu + Zn) molar ratio also exhibited a significant effect on Cu0 surface area, oxygen vacancy, the ratio of ZnO(002) plane to ZnO(100) plane, as well as the basicity and acidity of the reduced catalysts, thereby affecting the catalytic performance for low-temperature methanol synthesis from syngas containing CO2. The correlations of methanol space time yield (STY) versus the physicochemical characteristics of Cu/ZnO catalysts were studied. The catalyst with equal amounts of Cu and Zn displayed the best catalytic activity owing to higher Cu0 surface area, more oxygen vacancy and ZnO(002) plane, as well as more moderately basic sites.Although gene therapy targeting the α-synuclein gene (SNCA) has achieved outstanding results in the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD), the lack of a suitable gene delivery system and inadequate therapeutic effects remains a tremendous obstacle for RNAi therapy. Here, a degradable nano-MgO micelle composite (MgO(pDNA)-INS-Plu-mRNA-NGF) with double interference (mediated by RNAi and α-synuclein (α-syn)-targeted mRNA) was constructed. Binding mRNA treatment significantly increased the inhibitory effect compared to the reduction of α-syn expression by RNAi alone. Moreover, the cell experiments demonstrated that the viability of the PD cell model can be significantly improved by nano-MgO micelle composite treatment. More importantly, the composite has the ability to penetrate the blood brain barrier and deliver genes and mRNA to neurons through endocytosis mediated by the nerve growth factor and its receptors, thus significantly downregulating the expression of α-syn in the PD mice model without causing damage to other major organs. Overall, this work provides a novel insight into the design of biomaterials for gene therapy for PD.An in situ microbalance and infrared spectroscopic study of alternating exposures to Me2Au(S2CNEt2) and ozone illuminates the organometallic chemistry that allows for the thermal atomic layer deposition (ALD) of gold. In situ quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) studies resolve the nucleation delay and island growth of Au on a freshly prepared aluminum oxide surface with single cycle resolution, revealing inhibition for 40 cycles prior to slow nucleation and film coalescence that extends over 300 cycles. In situ infrared spectroscopy informed by first-principles computation provides insight into the surface chemistry of the self-limiting half-reactions, which are consistent with an oxidized Au surface mechanism. X-ray diffraction of ALD-grown gold on silicon, silica, sapphire, and mica reveals consistent out-of-plane oriented crystalline film growth as well as epitaxially directed in-plane orientation on closely lattice-matched mica at a relatively low growth temperature of 180 °C. A more complete understanding of ALD gold nucleation, surface chemistry, and epitaxy will inform the next generation of low-temperature, nanoscale, textured depositions that are applicable to high surface area supports. The aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have been considered as a promising energy storage device. However, the ion transfer at the Zn metal anode-electrolyte interface is limited by the sluggish kinetics resulting in high interface resistance. Herein, mesoporous TiO2 (m-TiO2) is coated on the Zn foil (Zn-TiO2) driving the ion's faster transfer to reduce interface resistance (70.1 Ω vs 799.3 Ω of bare Zn). The lower interface resistance is ascribed to shortening the ion transfer path provided by the mesoporous structure and the smaller Zn2+ absorption energy barrier of the surface of the Zn-TiO2 anode as well as the unobstructed ion transfer path at the crystal planes (100) of TiO2, which have been supported by the density functional theory (DFT) calculation and experiments. Therefore, the Zn-TiO2 anodes in the symmetrical cells display a low voltage hysteresis (36.5 mV) and long-term cycling stability (500 h at 4.4 mA cm-2). Especially, the Zn-TiO2/MnO2 full cells show superior cycling performance with a high capacity of 269.8 mAh g-1 after 50 cycles at 0.2 A g-1 and 210.9 mAh g-1 after 1000 cycles at 0.5 A g-1. The analysis of ion-transfer kinetics at the interface provides deep enlightenment and reference for the study of the metal anodes.Solid-state lithium metal battery (SSLMB) is regarded as a safer energy storage system compared to the liquid one. The performance of the SSLMB depends on the cathode performance and the side reactions derived from the interface of the cathode and the electrolyte, which becomes much severe at high temperatures. Herein, we carried out a facile spray-drying route to prepare a CNTs/LiV3O8/Y2O3 (M-LVO-Y) composite. The synthesized cathode material exhibits an outstanding Li+ storage performance with a high reversible capacity of 279.9 mA h g-1 at 0.05 A g-1, excellent power capability (182.5 mA h g-1 at 2 A g-1), and a long cycle lifespan of 500 cycles with a capacity retention of 66.5% at a current density of 1 A g-1. The fabricated rechargeable solid-state Li/M-LVO-Y-2 lithium metal battery (LMB) with a poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) achieves a high discharge capacity of 302.1 mA h g-1 at 0.05 A g-1 and a stable cycling performance with the highest capacity of 72.1% after 100 cycles at 0.2 A g-1 and 80 °C. The above battery performance demonstrates that SSLMBs with the CNTs/LiV3O8/Y2O3 cathode and the PEO-based SPE film can provide high energy density and are suitable for applying in a high-temperature environment.Temporally intermittent and spatially dispersed renewable energy sources strongly call for large-scale energy storage devices. Aqueous aluminum-ion batteries show great potential for application due to their safety and low cost. Thus far, however, the ideal full-battery configuration is beyond the scope due to shortcomings with regards to suitable anode and cathode materials. Herein, we report a pioneering aqueous aluminum-ion battery system consisting of a Prussian white cathode, 1 M Al2(SO4)3 aqueous electrolyte, and an organic 9,10-anthraquinone anode. The oxidation capability of the Prussian white cathode during the first charging allows for the fabrication of the full battery without pre-inserting aluminum ions, thus making the rocking-chair-type battery feasible. Importantly, the open-framework structure of the Prussian white and distinct enolization charge storage mechanism of 9,10-anthraquinone ensure fast reaction kinetics. The full battery exhibits cycling stability with a capacity retention of 89.1% over 100 cycles at 500 mA g-1, finishing a cycle in about 10 min. This work provides a pathway for developing rechargeable aqueous aluminum-ion batteries.Paronychia is usually caused by bacterial infections. Herpetic whitlow is an acute infection of the fingers or toes caused by herpes simplex viruses and it typically presents with vesicles. We report the case of a 78-year-old woman with gingivostomatitis and atypical paronychia in several fingers without blisters.Apocrine hidrocystoma is a benign, cystic proliferation of the apocrine sweat gland that may present commonly on sun-exposed areas of the head and neck. However, given its location and features, apocrine hidrocystomas may often be confused with malignant tumors such as basal cell carcinomas or primary cutaneous mucinous carcinomas. Herein, we present an unusual case of an apocrine hidrocystoma presenting in the postauricular region and highlight the importance of histopathological examination of cystic tumors on the periauricular area.Vulvar epidermolytic hyperkeratosis is a benign entity that mimics other malignant and inflammatory vulvar dermatoses clinically and histologically requiring careful clinical pathologic correlation for diagnosis.Lichen planopilaris is an uncommon dermatological manifestation of lichen planus of the scalp and results in cicatricial alopecia. We present a patient with lichen planopilaris and significant post-inflammatory pigmentary alteration, confirmed by histopathology. The patient's case represents a clinically important variation from an expected typical pattern of dyschromia at periphery of alopecic zones in lichen planopilaris. We report a 70-year-old man with asymptomatic reddish papules on the glans penis that histologically showed metastases of prostate adenocarcinoma. He had a medical history of a stage IV undifferentiated prostate adenocarcinoma that was currently being treated with chemotherapy. The medical history of advanced stage prostate adenocarcinoma associated with the clinical and pathological findings confirmed the diagnosis of penile metastatic prostate adenocarcinoma. This is an example of the relevance of a thorough history combined with histopathological and immunohistochemical correlation which allowed the diagnosis of a penile lesion that may be the first manifestation of prostate metastatic progression and should therefore be included among the differential diagnoses of penile tumors.Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is not typically included in the differential diagnosis of lesions with clinical characteristics of pyogenic granuloma. However, cases of pyogenic granuloma-like Kaposi sarcoma have been reported in the literature. This variant is extremely rare and possesses clinical and histological findings consistent with both conditions. We report an elderly, immunocompetent man with pyogenic granuloma-like Kaposi sarcoma, which was clinically consistent with a pyogenic granuloma and possessed histological findings consistent with Kaposi sarcoma and pyogenic granuloma.Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is an inflammatory, ulcerative condition that is characterized by painful ulcers that commonly present on the lower extremities. Up to half of PG cases are associated with underlying systemic disease, including inflammatory bowel disease, various autoimmune conditions, and malignancy. Another well-known association is the manifestation of PG with recreational cocaine use, especially cocaine contaminated with the adulterant agent levamisole. Once utilized for its immunomodulatory capabilities, levamisole was withdrawn from the market in 2002. It has since been repurposed to potentiate the amphetamine-like effects and duration of cocaine and has reduced preparation cost. We present a 52-year-old woman with chronic maxillary sinusitis and cocaine use disorder presenting with a two-week history of painful ulcers on bilateral lower extremities, each with a purulent base and undermined, violaceous borders. Urine toxicology was positive for cocaine and serologic studies were positive for cytoplasmic antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (c-ANCA) and lupus anticoagulant. Underlying conditions, especially that of granulomatosis with polyangiitis, were considered and ultimately ruled out. The patient's lesions exhibited a marked response with a short course of oral corticosteroids, typical of PG associated with levamisole. This case highlights the crucial role that drug abstinence plays in the prevention of recurrence.
