Mirid bugs are zoophytophagous predators, that is, they display omnivorous behavior and feed on both plants and arthropods. Mirid bugs feed effectively on a wide range of prey, such as whiteflies, lepidopteran eggs and mites. In addition, the phytophagous behavior of mirid bugs can activate defenses in the plants on which they feed. Despite the positive biological attributes, their use still presents some constraints. Their establishment and retention on the crop is not always easy and economic plant damage can be caused by some mirid species. In this review, the current strategies for using zoophytophagous mirid bugs in horticultural crops, mainly Nesidiocoris tenuis, Macrolophus pygmaeus and Dicyphus hesperus, are reviewed. We discuss six different approaches which, in our opinion, can optimize the efficacy of mirids as biocontrol agents and help expand their use into more areas worldwide. In this review we (i) highlight the large number of species and biotypes which are yet to be described and explore their applicability, (ii) present how it is possible to take advantage of the mirid-induced plant defenses to improve pest management, (iii) argue that genetic selection of improved mirid strains is feasible, (iv) explore the use of companion plants and the use of alternative foods to improve the mirid bug management, and finally (vi) discuss strategies for the expansion of mirid bugs as biological control agents to horticultural crops other than just tomatoes. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.
To cross-sectionally examine heavy episodic drinking (HED) and pre-loading with alcohol among young Australian women in relation to the alcohol-induced adverse outcomes of memory loss, vomiting and injury.

A total of 7,800 participants, aged 20-25 years, from the 1989-95 cohort of the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health answered all questions on alcohol use, reported drinking alcohol in the previous year and were not pregnant at the third survey in 2015. Log-binomial models were used to estimate prevalence ratios for adverse outcomes associated with increased frequency of HED and pre-loading.

The majority of participants reported HED (83.4%) and/or pre-loading (65.6%), which had a moderate correlation (r=0.646). Just over half (55.2%) of participants experienced at least one adverse event, with vomiting being most common. As the frequency of HED or pre-loading increased, so did the risk of an adverse outcome.

Both HED and pre-loading pose a risk to young Australian women, and that risk rises with increased frequency. Implications for public health Although HED has been a target of public health policy and interventions, pre-loading has received limited attention. In addition to addressing HED, there is a need to consider the risk posed by pre-loading, a related, yet unique risky drinking behaviour.

The key to its synthesis was a simple salt metathesis from SrI2 and 2 Ag[Al(ORF )4 ], giving the base-free strontium-perfluoroalkoxyaluminate Sr[Al(ORF )4 ]2 (ORF =OC(CF3 )3 ). Addition of an ansa-arene yielded the highly Lewis acidic, dicationic strontium ansa-arene complex. In preliminary experiments, the complex was successfully applied as a catalyst in CO2 -reduction to CH4 and a surprisingly controlled isobutylene polymerization reaction.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has set a goal of prompt, complete and sustained elimination of industrially produced trans fats (iTFA) in the global food supply by 2023. We aimed to assess the number of products in the Australian packaged food supply likely to contain iTFA.

Using a large pre-packaged food monitoring database collected in 2018, we searched the ingredient list using specific and non-specific ingredient terms to identify products likely to contain iTFA.

In total, 28,349 foods were included for analysis 131 (0.5%) products contained specific ingredients indicative of iTFA, and 1,626 (5.7%) products contained non-specific ingredients that may indicate the presence of iTFA. Bread and bakery products, cereal and grain products and confectionery were the top three food groups that contained specific ingredients indicative of iTFA. Only 19 (14.5%) products with specific iTFA-indicating ingredients declared the amount of trans fats. Conclusions and implications for public health Compared to lation to eliminate iTFA should be considered to minimise the exposure to these harmful chemicals. The persistence of a species in a given place not only depends on its intrinsic capacity to consume and transform resources into offspring, but also on how changing environmental conditions affect its growth rate. However, the complexity of factors has typically taken us to choose between understanding and predicting the persistence of species. To tackle this limitation, we propose a probabilistic approach rooted on the statistical concepts of ensemble theory applied to statistical mechanics and on the mathematical concepts of structural stability applied to population dynamics models - what we call structural forecasting. We show how this new approach allows us to estimate a probability of persistence for single species in local communities; to understand and interpret this probability conditional on the information we have concerning a system; and to provide out-of-sample predictions of species persistence as good as the best experimental approaches without the need of extensive amounts of data.China has the largest number of patients with dementia in the world. However, dementia in the Chinese population is still poorly understood and under-researched. Given the differences in genetic, demographic, sociocultural, lifestyle, and health profiles among Chinese and other ethnic/racial groups, it is crucial to build appropriate infrastructure for long-term longitudinal studies to advance Chinese cognitive aging and dementia research. We initiated a community-based prospective cohort-the Taizhou Imaging Study (TIS)-to accelerate the understanding of dementia and cerebrovascular diseases in Chinese. This article presents the rationale, aims, study design, and organization of TIS. In addition, we described some examples of the types of studies such a resource might support. The TIS provides a new framework for facilitating Chinese dementia research, encompassing invaluable resources including detailed epidemiological, sociocultural, neuroimaging, and omics data.HLA-C*15219 differs from HLA-C*15020101 by one nucleotide substitution at position 17 in exon 1.
To summarize the outcomes of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) intervention by interventional cardiologists (IC) working on a stroke team.

There is a geographic maldistribution of dedicated neuro-interventionalists (NI) to treat large vessel occlusion (LVO) AIS.

Results of 166 consecutive patients who received endovascular therapy (EVT) for AIS due to LVO by IC at three centers between 2009 and 2019 are reported. A modified Rankin score (mRs) of ≤ 2 at 90 days after EVT was used as the primary measurement of a good neurological outcome. Univariate logistic regression was used to evaluate predictors of the mRS > 2 and mortality. Those variables with significance of p < .2 from the univariate analysis were included in a multivariate analysis.

All-cause mortality at 30 days was 22%. A favorable clinical outcome, mRS ≤ 2 at 90 days, was 49%. After multivariate analysis and controlling for confounders, a higher baseline NIHSS was predictive of 30-day mortality (OR 1.20 [95% CI 1.09-1.32] p < .001) and unfavorable clinical outcome (mRS > 2) at 90 days (OR 1.16 [95% CI 1.07-1.25] p < .001).

Outcomes for carotid stent capable IC performing EVT for AIS are comparable to those achieved by NI physicians in major randomized clinical trials. Our data supports conducting a clinical trial of carotid stent capable IC working on multidisciplinary stroke teams to perform EVT for AIS due to LVO in communities and hospitals without timely access (<60 min by ground transport) to dedicated NI.

As such, it is imperative that the scientific community devise effective methods to inhibit the proliferation and metastasis of CRC cells. Ferroptosis is a recently discovered regulatory cell death mode mainly manifested by dysregulation of cellular iron metabolism and mitochondrial lipid peroxidation. ACADSB is a member of the acyl-CoA dehydrogenase. This study finds that ACADSB is lowly expressed in CRC tissues. Its expression is negatively correlated with N- and M-stage CRC but positively correlated with the overall survival rate of CRC patients. In addition, it finds that ACADSB is found in the mitochondria of cells. Overexpression of ACADSB inhibits CRC cell migration, invasion, and proliferation, while ACADSB knockdown has the opposite effect. More importantly, the study finds that ACADSB negatively regulates expression of glutathione reductase and glutathione peroxidase 4, the two main enzymes responsible for clearing glutathione (GSH) in CRC cells. ACADSB overexpression enhances the concentration of malondialdehyde, Fe+ , superoxide dismutase, and lipid peroxidation in CRC cells, but reduces the concentration of GSH. This is significant, as all of these are important indicators of ferroptosis. Evaluating the data as a whole, this paper speculates that ACADSB affects CRC cell migration, invasion, and proliferation by regulating CRC cell ferroptosis.
Many countries are increasingly prohibiting the addition of antibiotics in livestock diets. Therefore, herb extracts have gradually drawn attention to substitute antibiotics. Our present study aimed to determine the effects of herbal extract mixture (HEM) in dietary on growth performance, organ weight, intestinal morphology and intestinal nutrient transporters in weaned pigs.

27 piglets (Duroc×[Landrace×Yorkshire]; Body Weight (BW)=5.99±0.13kg) were weaned at day 21 and randomly divided into three groups (n=9 piglets/group). All piglets received a basal diet containing similar amounts of nutrients for 14days. The three groups were the control (no additive), the antibiotics (375mg/kg chlortetracycline, 20%, 500mg/kg enramycin, 4%, 1,500mg/kg oxytetracycline calcium, 50%) and the HEM group (1000mg/kg extract mixture of golden-and-silver honeysuckle, huangqi, duzhong leaves and dangshen). After 14 d of treatment, we collected tissue samples to measure organ weight, intestinal parameters, intestinal morphology, digestive enzyme activities and intestinal mRNA expression of nutrient transporters.
