Slot Rankings - How Wide Receivers Score More Touchdowns in the Slot
Slot machines function exactly the same way every game, so you won't discover any secrets to beat them. There are a few tricks that you can apply to increase your chances of winning.
First, check out a game's RTP. This is a measure of how much players should expect to win in the long term.
Slot Efficiency
Slot efficiency is the goal of increasing the amount of slot switches that can be used while avoiding the violation of the constraints that are predefined. These constraints typically include the minimum permitted operational delay (usually expressed in terms of scheduling delays) fairness and equity, access and competition, environmental targets, and more. The process of allocation of slots is a complicated one and optimizing it to reach the desired performance metrics requires careful analysis of all the factors at play.
The process starts by identifying the different types of requests to be prioritised by reference to precedents from the past. Once the type is identified then the slot allocation model is then utilized to minimize the delay criteria. Many research gaps have been found regarding the slot scheduling models that optimize especially when it comes to trying to balance efficiency and fairness.
ABC (assigned in accordance with velocity) is a common method of prioritizing slot assignments. This strategy collects item history and then selects the grouping based on velocity. Items with the fastest speed are given the best slots in the warehouse, whereas items with slower speed are placed further back.
Another crucial aspect of slot efficiency is the distance factor, which determines the amount of space that has to be allotted to support the pick-to-ship process. The calculation considers the speed of the group, the placement of racking and the handling characteristics of the products.
It is crucial to be aware of the costs associated with a slot change to improve the efficiency of the slot. A quick analysis of a typical slot change can aid managers in determining the cost associated with the move, and also the impact that it might affect other aspects of slot efficiency, including velocity.
After spending one or two months proving the data and re-dating recommendations after which the casino started using the solution more regularly. The gaming operations team estimates they will save between 10 and 12 hours per month on their traditional analyses but that doesn't count the time they spend reviewing the data rated by customers or preparing and analyzing the latest strategies that are actionable.
Based on the new recommendations from SRE the team was able make dozens of game change suggestions which increased revenue for players. Particularly, Dancing Drums Explosion and Twinstar Wave XL both by Scientific Games, saw big gains in the premium lease and WAP rankings. The casino also managed to shift their budget away from marketing and other costs to improving floor performance.
Perimeter Efficiency
We all know that wide receivers are more likely to score more touchdowns on perimeter targets than slot targets because they're typically targeted further downfield and often have one-on-one coverage. But what might surprise some is that there's a difference between the top five slot receivers and the rest when it comes to scoring on these perimeter targets.
Of the 66 wide receivers who have been on at least 40 targets in each of the two seasons the top five slot scorers on perimeter routes were all speed receivers: Mike Evans, Amari Cooper, Tyler Lockett and Michael Gallup. The bottom of the list was populated with more possession-based receivers including Chris Godwin and Diontae Johnson. The Bucs will likely move the latter two into the slot more often this season, which will increase their targets. However, they'll need to improve their scoring from the perimeter to maintain their top-of-the-line performance.
Speedy wideouts are the biggest benefit of moving into the slot because they generally have an easier time getting open downfield when their route isn't obstructed by a linebacker or cornerback. The only wide receiver who isn't speedy on the list who can benefit from more slot work is Corey Coleman, as he's an extremely reliable player on intermediate and short routes.
Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler and other receivers who are based on possession are at the lowest of the list. They're better on shorter and intermediate routes than deep areas. Jeudy is a solid choice for a sleeper this year, as the Rams' primary slot receiver for the Rams while Courtland Sutton and Amari Cooper are likely to play on more downfield targets. Hamler will excel on shorter-to-mid and intermediate routes, because it was where he excelled when playing for the Bills in 2021. Hamler could be a fantastic replacement for the departing wideout Jordan Matthews in Buffalo.
Percentage of Snaps In Slot
The percentage of snaps a receiver takes in the slot is a good indicator of their ability to play deep routes. However, it's not always a true representation of a receiver's skills as some receivers excel in the slot but can't play deep and vice versa.
For example, the Eagles Alshon Jeffery is the leader in the league in the number of targets per game (4.8) but is sixth in the slot receiving score (58.5). This is due to the fact that most of his targets come from the outside, and it's difficult to score a first-down on a wide-open deep route in that setting.
On the other hand, certain receivers excel at playing inside and can't do much on the outside. For example, the Panthers gave Robby Anderson 978 snaps this season, and he completed 74 percent of his slot routes as opposed to just 26% for boundary routes. This is a significant difference that shows how much more efficient Robby Anderson is when he is aligned to the slot.
Chris Godwin, a Buccaneers player, lines up inside most of the time on his passing downs and is among the top five slot receiving scores (58.5). He also played 51% of his perimeter routes and is a master in one-on-one coverage.
Speed receivers are usually more efficient when they line up inside, because they are able to get targeted down the field and often have one-on-one coverage. This is why you'll find names like Julio Jones, Mike Evans, and Amari Cooper in the top five on our list.
McDuffie, Moore and other slot cornerbacks also belong to this group. Both have been able to create pressures in the passing game with McDuffie leading the NFL with seven forced fumbles. Moore being the most effective tackle stop performance on this list (-3.5). Spagnuolo maximized McDuffie's skills by placing him in the slot for nickel and dime packages, and then moving him to the outside for base defense. Moore's ability to stop big run plays is an enormous asset when playing the slot.
Percentage of Snaps Outside
While the NFL's top receivers like Baldwin, Golden Tate and Larry Fitzgerald excel on the perimeter, it's worth noting that their slot counterparts are equally good. Wide receivers who have a high slot grade have touchdowns that are about the same as those on the outside. This is due to the fact that quarterbacks have a more stable target distribution when throwing to slot and outside receivers, compared to other inside options like tight ends and backfield pass-catchers.
This is why it's fascinating to see a receiver such as CeeDee Lamb on this list in 2022, as he plays the slot in three WR sets and flanker in two of the sets. In fact, he's running a higher number of routes in the slot than most of the players listed on this list. This is a great way to gain matchup advantages for your team. It also helps to explain why Lamb is the most highly-rated receiver in our system.
He also plays the X-position and makes big plays outside. Lamb isn't as powerful as the players in this ranking however, he's highly skilled and is a great match for the Cowboys' scheme.
Mecole Hardman is a further example of a player capable of putting up big numbers on both kinds of targets. He has a very high slot receiving rating and is among the league's top players at catching back-shoulder throws, but he's also an excellent player for contested-catch.
Jalen Hilton is another player who is slot specialist. He has lined up in this position on 85.7 percent of his defensive plays thus far in the season. Rainbet Casino & Sportsbook 's allowed the third-lowest target EPA and the fifth-best run stop EPA for cornerbacks that are aligned in the slot, which makes him a valuable part of his team's defense. He has struggled to stop passes from outside, and his EPA against this type of target is negative. This is due to him playing with linebackers and safety players who cannot compete with Hilton's speed, size or route-running abilities.
