This highlights the potential role of forests as a whole as microrefugia for biodiversity under future climate change.The Ganga-Brahmaputra floodplains constitute a complex system that is vulnerable to arsenic recycling owing to its geomorphic sensitivity, aquifer profiles, high meandering scars and extreme sediment deposition, along with extreme monsoonal disturbances; and are subjected to significant alterations in arsenic recycling. We have put an effort to delineate the similarities and dissimilarities pertaining to the arsenic prevalence, origin and mobilization in the two hotspots, namely the Mid-Gangetic Floodplains (MGFP) and the Brahmaputra Floodplains (BFP). Pertaining to this, we collected 384 representative water samples for hydrogeochemical investigations, multivariate analyses, and saturation status based predictive modelling, with BFP having a maximum concentration of arsenic (As) reaching to almost 97.9 μgL-1 and MGFP having a maximum concentration of 50.1 μgL-1. Seasonality impelled changes and conforming riverine recharges are leading major ionic differentiations in both the floodplains across seasons. Meandering and aquifer dynamics control As prevalence in the MGFP and BFP, respectively. Non-interdependent HCO3- recharge mediated As-recycling was found in the BFP. Carbonate weathering is dominant in the MGFP, while both carbonate and silicate weathering take precedence in the BFP. Multivariate analysis hints at fertilizer influence on As mobilization in the MGFP. Reductive hydrolysis of Fe-OOH mediated As-release is more prominent in the BFP. Seasonal arsenic fluctuations are going to have more climatic dependency in near future owing to the increasing erratic rains, pumping and recharge events. Erratic precipitation will provoke immediate response in both floodplains in terms of As mobilization which urgently needs attention to counter increasing arsenic vulnerability.Microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) have been widely studied, mostly focusing on the methods of separation, detection, and adsorption or the ecological effects in aquatic ecosystems. When different sources and types of MPs/NPs enter the soil, they can affect the biogeochemical cycle in terms of the direct impacts on soil physicochemical properties and soil organisms, and the indirect impact on soil biota through changes in soil material cycling. To date, a few studies have focused on the effects of MPs/NPs on soil ecosystems, including soil properties, microbial communities, soil fauna, and plants, as well as the potential or affirmed correlations among them. In this review, we summarized the recent literature on soil MPs/NPs focusing on their types, sources, separation, and ecological impacts on soil properties, microbes, and plants. We attempted to establish an overall relationship between MPs/NPs and soil plant system. Based on existing studies, we also highlight the research gaps and propose several directions for future studies.Western diets are associated with multiple environmental impacts and risks to human health. European countries are gradually taking action towards the Farm to Fork Strategy, embracing a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) perspective to promote the sustainability of food production and consumption. Although LCA enables the comprehensive assessment of environmental impacts, diet-related human health and animal welfare impacts are often underrepresented. This study proposes integrating additional indicators into LCA to evaluate the sustainability of diets under the One Health (OH) approach, which holistically considers interlinked complex health issues between humans, animals and the environment. Human health loss is estimated according to risk factors for non-communicable diseases; while animal welfare is measured as animal life years suffered, loss of animal lives and loss of morally-adjusted animal lives. The extended LCA framework is applied to men and women's reference diets in the German federal state of North Rhal impacts of diets characterized by the high intake of animal products, from a OH perspective.Vegetation changes in karst areas are controlled by the soil formation rate (SFR) and soil moisture (SM). However, little is known about their thresholds and global control patterns. To this end, based on high-precision climate and vegetation data for 2000-2014, using Pearson correlation analysis, the Hurst index, and change-point analysis, the thresholds of the SFR and SM in vegetation growth in karst areas were identified. Furthermore, a spatial map (0.125° × 0.125°) of the global karst ecosystem with a static/dynamic limitation zone was established. We found that the net primary productivity (NPP) in 70% of the global climate zones exhibited a dual restriction relationship with the SM and SFR. The limitations of the SFR and SM in vegetation growth were most obvious in subpolar and semi-arid climates. In addition, their ecological thresholds were 25.2 t km-2 yr-1 and 0.28 m3 m-3, respectively. The static limitation of the SFR on the NPP in karst areas accounted for 28.37%, and the influence of the SM enhanced this limit (21.79%). The limitation of the SFR on vegetation was mainly concentrated in Boreal forests (17%), and the limitation of the SM was mainly concentrated in tropical savannas (12%). The NPP and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) were the most sensitive to changes in the SM and SFR. Moreover, the analysis based on 14 ecologically limitation karst areas further revealed that the reduction in these factors may cause the tropical rain forest to experience degradation. It can be seen that the SM enhanced the limiting effect of the SFR on vegetation in karst areas. In short, this interpretation of karst vegetation limitations provides a deeper understanding of and approach to ecosystem evolution and vegetation restoration in these regions.Atmospheric brown carbon (BrC) is a light-absorbing component that affects radiative forcing; however, this effect requires further clarification, particularly with respect to BrC emission sources, chromophores, and optical properties. In the present study, the concentrations, optical properties, and emission factors of organic carbon (OC), water-soluble OC (WSOC), and humic-like substances (HULIS) in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emitted from vehicles in three road tunnels (the Wucun, Xianyue, and Wenxing tunnels in Xiamen, China) were investigated. The mass concentrations and light absorption of OC, WSOC, and HULIS were higher at the exits of each tunnel than at entrances, demonstrating that vehicle emissions were a BrC source. At each tunnel's exit, the average light absorption contributed by HULIS-BrC to water-soluble BrC (WS-BrC) and total BrC at 365 nm was higher than the corresponding carbon mass concentration contributed by HULIS (HULIS-C) to WSOC and OC, indicating that the chromophores of HULIS emitted from vehicles had a disproportionately high effect on the light absorption characteristics of BrC. The emission factors (EFs) of HULIS-C and WSOC mass concentrations were highest at the Xianyue tunnel; however, the EFs of HULIS-BrC and WS-BrC light absorption were highest at the Wenxing tunnel, indicating that the chromophore composition of BrC was different among the tunnels and that the mass concentration EFs did not correspond directly to the light absorption EFs.Among numerous methods developed in purification and separation industries, the adsorption process has received considerable attention due to its inexpensive, facile, and eco-friendly nature. The importance of the adsorption process causes extraordinary endeavors for modeling the adsorption isotherms during the years; thus, myriads of research have been conducted and many reviews have been published. In this paper, we have attempted to gather the most widely used adsorption isotherms and their related definitions, along with examples of correlated work of the recent decade. In the present review, 37 adsorption isotherms with about 400 references have been collected from the research published in the period of 2010-2020. The adsorption isotherms utilized are alphabetically organized for ease of access. The parameters of each isotherm, as well as the applicable definitions, are presented in the table, in addition to being discussed in the text. Another table is provided for the practical use of researchers, featuring the usage of the related isotherms in peer-reviewed studies.
Whether plasma serotonin (5-HT) levels could be a biomarker for postpartum depression (PPD) diagnosis is under dispute.

A total of 979 of pregnant women without antenatal depression at the time of delivery (TD) were enrolled and followed up at six weeks postpartum (SWP) in Changsha, China. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for plasma 5-HT level at TD, at SWP, changes in 5-HT, and risk of PPD and deterioration in EPDS scores at SWP were estimated by Logistic regressions. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) functions were also used to assess the dose-response relationships.

The 6-week cumulative incidence of PPD was 12.05% (95%CI10.08%, 14.26%). The average level of plasma 5-HT changed from 223.65±131.47ng/ml at TD to 216.43±122.73ng/ml at SWP, with an average change of -7.22±96.54ng/ml. Plasma 5-HT at TD was negatively correlated with EPDS score at TD and SWP (p<0.05), as was the correlation between 5-HT at SWP and EPDS scores at SWP (p=0.038). However, the changes in 5-HT were not associated with the EPDS score at SWP (p=0.346). Neither plasma 5-HT level at TD nor changes in 5-HT was associated with PPD at SWP or deterioration in EPDS scores (p<0.05). Plasma 5-HT at delivery had insignificant discriminatory power for diagnosing PPD and prediction of deterioration in EPDS scores (p≥0.05).

Age of onset may be an important feature associated with distinct subtypes of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The amygdala joined neurocircuitry models of OCD for its role in mediating fear and regulating anxiety. The present study aims to identify the underlying pathophysiological specifics in OCD with different onset times by assessing amygdala subregional functional connectivity (FC) alterations in early-onset OCD (EO-OCD) and late-onset OCD (LO-OCD).

Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data were acquired from 88 medication-free OCD patients (including 30 EO-OCD and 58 LO-OCD) and age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HC) for each patient group. Onset-by-diagnosis interactions were examined and comparisons between each OCD group and the corresponding HC group were performed regarding the FC of amygdala subregions including the basolateral amygdala (BLA), centromedial amygdala (CMA), superficial amygdala (SFA) and amygdalostriatal transition area (Astr).

Significant onset-by-diagnosis interactions were found in FC between bilateral SFA, right CMA, left Astr and the cerebellum.
