Choosing uPVC Replacement Window Handles
Window handles are a crucial element of your uPVC windows and must match to the existing frame. The key is the spindle's length which determines if the new uPVC handle will fit.
Take a look at the table below for a quick checklist for measuring your uPVC window handle's spindle. This will allow you to order the correct window handle replacement for your double-glazed window.
Espag Handle
Espag handles are the most commonly used style of handle found on windows made of upvc (they're also often used in aluminium and wood too). They feature an oval spindle that extends from the back of the handle and then enters into the multi-point lock mechanism that is attached to the window. The handle is used to operate the locking mechanism that is attached to the window.
Espag window handles come in a number of different styles that differ according to the style you choose and the function you want from them. Some come with a push button for locking closed and key-locking. (And fire-escape nonlocking in the event of need.) Many of them meet the Secure by Design standard to add an extra layer of security. They also come with a range of different lengths of spindles, which can be adjusted by using spindle sleeves that reduce the size of the protruding spindle.
Yale has tested the espagnolette handles we offer to ensure they meet all the standards you'd expect. They work with windows made of upvc as well as timber windows and frames made of aluminum. We offer a range of colours, and can match the handle to your existing hinges.
Another important feature of espagnolette handles is their step height. This is the distance between the base of the handle and the point at which it rests on the frame. It's important to have this in order to ensure a tight and secure fit. Fortunately, a majority of our handles conform to industry standard with 43mm between screw hole centres.
You can pick between straight or Cranked handles. Cranked handles are a good choice in situations where the espagnolette handle is close to the frame's edge. They give you more space to open the window.
Our upvc handle replacement range offers a range of finishes, styles, and colours that will suit the decor in your home, including satin nickel, polished chrome and antique brass. Some of our products even have a soft-close feature to reduce the sound of your windows closing.
Cockspur Handle
The Cockspur Window Handle was developed for manufacturers who wish to offer their customers an elegant and high-quality design. These handles can be used with either uPVC or aluminium windows. They function by incorporating an edge which locks onto the edge of the frame to secure the window. The window handle can be locked so that it only opens when pushed, giving you additional security. The handle comes in five different finishes and both right and left hand versions that allow the designer to meet the needs of a wider variety of windows.
The window handle of the cockspur is supplied with three packing pieces of different thicknesses. This allows them to be adjusted to a variety of backset sizes. Each piece of packing fits perfectly beneath the handle's nose and can be removed or incorporated into the dimensions of the step in order to create a different backset that ranges from 9mm to 21mm. The handle is available in right and left handed versions, with straight or curved noses.
It is important to measure the height of your current handle prior to purchasing a new handle to make sure it fits correctly. The wrong handle can lead to a variety of issues, such as the inability for the window to be shut. This could be a hassle for homeowners and result in stress that is not needed.
A handle called a cockspur is a form of handle that can be found on older uPVC and timber windows as well as on a few aluminium windows. These handles do not have any window locks integrated, unlike the Espag handles that are found on modern windows. They also come with shootbolts or an Espagnolette bar lock.
The espagnolette (often abbreviated to "espag") handle is the most common type of handle used on the new uPVC casement windows. The Yale Encloser locking mechanism is activated when you turn the espagnolette handles. This is a lot safer than a traditional cockspur handle or British standard handle. This is because the handle espagnolette turns several locks to secure the window frame.
window handles www.repairmywindowsanddoors.co.uk and Tilt Handle
These windows are a very popular choice for people seeking to improve the airflow within their home, as well as offering an additional level of security. As the name suggests, they offer an option to tilt and turn that allows the window to open at 90 degrees, providing the appearance of a small opening, or fall down into a hopper design to allow for complete ventilation. This dual functionality also gives them a unique appearance that can give a real wow factor to the double-glazed windows you have.
Tilt-and-turn windows are more complicated than other double-glazed window designs and can cost more in the process of installation. They require more parts and require more labor. These windows are a worthwhile investment as they can bring value and offer many advantages to your home.
The primary benefit of these ladders is that they allow you to clean your windows without the need for external ladders. This is particularly beneficial for those who live in high-rise flats or in buildings, as it eliminates the need to be concerned about falling from the height. Tilt and turn windows also provide additional security since windows are locked when in a tilted or turned position and in this way, ensuring that any intruders are unable to open them from the inside.
Usually, you'll find handles like this typically on European style windows, particularly those in Germany However, you can also get them installed in UK homes. The uPVC handle replacement is usually an a spindle-based model. It has a 7mm spindle which is available in lengths of 38mm, 44mm, and 32mm. The handle's base also tends to be wider than other handles, which is why they are known as a tilt-safe window handle as it can only be rotated to open the windows after it has been locked into either the closed or tilt position.
To replace a uPVC window handle that tilts and turns, you must first remove the old handle using the screwdriver. The screws are typically hidden behind a spring loaded backplate. Simply lift the backplate and twist it to reveal the two screw holes. By using an instrument such as a ruler or tape measure, you can measure the distance between the two screws which is usually 43mm centre to centre. Once you've got your measurement, you can order the correct handle size for your uPVC window.
Aluminium Handle
Diecast aluminum is finished in a fashionable matt black color.
Aluminum handles are generally made of corrosion-resistant and weatherproof alloys. They are durable enough to meet the demands of the construction industry. It is also shaped easily using industrial metal processing processes like extrusion, forging and casting giving it a high degree of flexibility with nearly unlimited design potential.
Additionally, aluminium is extremely strong and has a great strength-to-weight ratio. It is able to withstand the most severe conditions. Furthermore, it is resistant to the effects of ultraviolet radiation which makes it safe to indoor use. It is extremely versatile and can also be colored to match any style. From traditional emulations of hardware metals to vibrant applications that use hundreds of pure colors, the possibilities are endless.
Additionally, unlike iron aluminum does not rust or need regular maintenance. It is protected by an oxide layer naturally present. The protective layer can be further enhanced through a variety treatments like anodizing or powder coating to give you an additional level of protection against corrosion. It can last for a long time without requiring any routine care or cleaning. It is also 100% recyclable and sustainable. It is therefore a great option for industrial, residential, and commercial buildings. It also has thermal efficiency and is fire-safe.
