Twenty-six novel 1,2,4-oxadiazole derivatives were obtained and their biological activities were evaluated. Compound 5u and 5v exhibited excellent antibacterial activity Xoo and Xoc. These results indicated that 1,2,4-oxadiazole derivatives containing a trifluoromethyl pyridine moiety could be as potential alternative templates for discovering novel antibacterial agents.

Major cost of bioethanol is attributed to enzymes employed in biomass hydrolysis. Biomass hydrolyzing enzymes are predominantly produced from the hyper-cellulolytic mutant filamentous fungus Trichoderma reesei RUT-C30. Several decades of research have failed to provide an industrial grade organism other than T. reesei, capable of producing higher titers of an effective synergistic biomass hydrolyzing enzyme cocktail. Penicillium janthinellum NCIM1366 was reported as a cellulase hyper producer and a potential alternative to T. reesei, but a comparison of their hydrolytic performance was seldom attempted.

Hydrolysis of acid or alkali-pretreated rice straw using cellulase enzyme preparations from P. janthinellum and T. reesei indicated 37 and 43% higher glucose release, respectively, with P. janthinellum enzymes. A comparison of these fungi with respect to their secreted enzymes indicated that the crude enzyme preparation from P. janthinellum showed 28% higher overall cellulase activity. It also had an excepperformed the established industrial cellulase producer T. reesei in the hydrolysis experiments. A higher level of induction, larger number of secreted CAZymes and a high relative proportion of BGL to cellulases indicate the possible reasons for its performance advantage in biomass hydrolysis.
This study aimed to assess the rate of common mental disorders in patients consulting monk healers or health centres in Thailand.

Patients consecutively consulting monk healers or health centres were assessed with screening measures of three common mental disorders (major depressive, general anxiety and somatization disorder).

The prevalence of any common mental disorder was significantly higher in patients attending monk healers (31.1%) than those attending primary care health centres (22.3%) (P < 0.001). Likewise, the prevalence of each common mental disorder was significantly higher in clients attending monk healers (major depressive disorder 21.0%, generalized anxiety disorder 8.1%, and somatization disorder 19.0%) than in patients attending health centres (major depressive disorder 15.8%, generalized anxiety disorder 3.5%, and somatization disorder 12.5%). In adjusted logistic regression analysis among patients of monk healers, female sex, being single, divorced, separated or widowed, and low social support were associated with any common mental disorder. Among patients of a health centre, lower education, not employed, high debt status and low social support were associated with any common mental disorder.

The study found a higher prevalence of common mental disorders in patients consulting monk healers than primary care centre attendees, calling for integrated management of common mental disorders.

Cutaneous malignancies are rare complications of Lynch syndrome and can include Muir-Torre and Turcot syndromes that are associated with sebaceous gland tumors and keratoacanthomas. The incidence and clinical course of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma have not been well documented in Lynch syndrome due to its rarity.

A 49-year male presented with an enlarging groin skin lesion that was biopsed and demonstrated cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma for which he underwent a surgical resection. The patient experienced later a recurrence of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma around the resected margins. Next generation sequencing of tumor tissue revealed mutations in MSH6 and MLH1, in addition to high microsatellite instability. The patient underwent pembrolizumab treatment with complete resolution of the cutaneous lesion in the groin, but subsequently developed a new mass in the right antecubital fossa shortly after discontinuation of pembrolizumab. Repeat biopsy of the antecubital fossa lesion revealed a recurrd when evaluating young patients presenting with recurrent cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma with positive family history of malignancy and/ or without any identifiable risk factors for skin cancers, including those with a durable and rapid response to immunotherapy.
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) has been related to the pathogenesis of variety categories of cancers. This meta-analysis aimed to determine the association between MetS and the incidence of lung cancer.

Relevant cohort studies were identified by search of PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane's Library databases. Cochrane's Q test and I
statistic were used to analyze the heterogeneity. Random-effect model which incorporates the potential heterogeneity was used for the meta-analysis.

Five cohort studies with 188,970 participants were included. A total of 1,295 lung cancer cases occurred during follow-up. Meta-analyses showed that neither MetS defined by the revised NCEP-ATP III criteria (hazard ratio [HR] 0.94, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.84 to 1.05, p = 0.25; I
 = 0) nor the IDF criteria (HR 0.82, 95% CI 0.61 to 1.11, p = 0.20; I
= 0) was associated with an affected risk of lung cancer. Subgroup analyses showed consistent results in women and in men, in studies performed in Asian and non-Asian countries, and in prospective and retrospective cohorts (p all > 0.05). Meta-analysis limited to studies with the adjustment of smoking status also showed similar results (HR 0.91, 95% CI 0.80 to 1.05, p = 0.21; I
= 0). No publication bias was detected based on the Egger regression test (p = 0.32).

Current evidence from cohort studies does not support that MetS is an independent risk factor for the incidence of lung cancer.

The accurate estimation of potato yield at regional scales is crucial for food security, precision agriculture, and agricultural sustainable development.

In this study, we developed a new method using multi-period relative vegetation indices (rVIs) and relative leaf area index (rLAI) data to improve the accuracy of potato yield estimation based on the weighted growth stage. Two experiments of field and greenhouse (water and nitrogen fertilizer experiments) in 2018 were performed to obtain the spectra and LAI data of the whole growth stage of potato. Then the weighted growth stage was determined by three weighting methods (improved analytic hierarchy process method, IAHP; entropy weight method, EW; and optimal combination weighting method, OCW) and the Slogistic model. A comparison of the estimation performance of rVI-based and rLAI-based models with a single and weighted stage was completed.

The results showed that among the six test rVIs, the relative red edge chlorophyll index (rCI
) was the optimal index of the single-stage estimation models with the correlation with potato yield. The most suitable single stage for potato yield estimation was the tuber expansion stage. For weighted growth stage models, the OCW-LAI model was determined as the best one to accurately predict the potato yield with an adjusted R
value of 0.8333, and the estimation error about 8%.

This study emphasizes the importance of inconsistent contributions of multi-period or different types of data to the results when they are used together, and the weights need to be considered.

The as-prepared materials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and N2 adsorption-desorption experiments, respectively, demonstrating the formation of interfacial interaction and heterogeneous structure in LaNiO3/g-C3N4 nanocomposites. Under UV-light irradiation, the LaNiO3/g-C3N4 samples which without the addition of any noble metal as co-catalyst behaved enhanced photocatalytic water splitting activity compared with pure LaNiO3 and g-C3N4, owing to the Z-scheme charge carrier transfer pathway. Especially, the LaNiO3/70%g-C3N4 nanocomposite reach an optimal yield of up to 3392.50 µmol g-1 in 5 h and held a maximum H2 evolution rate of 678.5 µmol h-1 g-1 that was 5 times higher than that of pure LaNiO3.
Oscillation is a special cell behavior in microorganisms during continuous fermentation, which poses threats to the output stability for industrial productions of biofuels and biochemicals. In previous study, a spontaneous oscillatory behavior was observed in Clostridium butyricum-intensive microbial consortium in continuous fermentation for 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) production from glycerol, which led to the discovery of oscillation in species C. butyricum.

Spontaneous oscillations by C. butyricum tended to occur under glycerol-limited conditions at low dilution rates. At a glycerol feed concentration of 88g/L and a dilution rate of 0.048h
, the oscillatory behavior of C. butyricum was observed after continuous operation for 146h and was sustained for over 450h with an average oscillation period of 51h. During oscillations, microbial glycerol metabolism exhibited dramatic periodic changes, in which productions of lactate, formate and hydrogen significantly lagged behind that of other products including essive accumulation of acetaldehyde.
This study for the first time systematically investigated the oscillatory behavior of C. butyricum in aspect of occurrence condition, metabolism, morphology and transcriptome. Based on the experimental results, two hypotheses were put forward to explain the oscillatory behavior disorder of pyruvate metabolism, and excessive accumulation of acetaldehyde. For analysis of weak π-π complexes proton-nuclear magnetic resonance (proton-NMR) simultaneously provides information of stacking configurations and association constants [Formula see text] However, an apparent issue for this approach is inconsistent/impossible constant estimation which often leads to unreasonable interpretation for π-π complexation. Whether or not this proton-dependent constant variation could be attributed to simple experimental uncertainties or to more sophisticated additional unspecific shielding effects (AUS effects) was addressed by means of hypothesis tests using a robust bootstrap technique in this report. Our analysis shows the significance of AUS effects on such variation in constant estimation. A following study using numeric simulation further reveals the variation patterns induced by AUS effects and concludes that the largest [Formula see text] among the obtained [Formula see text] estimates of a complex is considered as the best estimate of [Formula see text] due to minimum deviation from the true value of K and the multiple [Formula see text] estimates of a π-π complex could provide preferable inferences for complex geometries.
