Saab Key Programming
Saab cars made since 1994 utilize an immobilizer system based on a set of keys. The addition of a key requires a new transponder, as well as special programming. This is usually done by the dealer with a specialized Tech2 diagnostic tool.
The problem is that it can be extremely expensive. This is why you should always keep a spare key in your possession.
Transponder key
The transponder is a key equipped with an electronic chip. This chip sends out a signal when the key is placed into the ignition. The car then checks the signal to see whether it is identical to that of the key. If saab key fob replacement match the car will then unlock itself and start. This is an excellent way to protect your vehicle from theft.
Transponder keys can be an increasingly popular feature for cars, but they're not as secure as traditional metal keys. The metal component of a traditional key can easily be cut and copied, whereas the transponder is protected by an electronic chip which protects it. The chip contains a unique code that's programmed into a car's computer in order to identify it.
The car will recognize the Saab keyfob, and allow it to be turned on. However, it will only do this if the fob is equipped with a chip that is not modified that has been programmed to match the original. The car will not start in the event that the key is not programmed to match.
It is crucial to have an extra Saab key. This is particularly important when you live in a rural location that has numerous car thieves. You can obtain a replacement key for your Saab by visiting the dealership, without having to pay their expensive prices. In most cases, you can have a new key made on-the-spot for less than half the cost you would pay at the dealer.
Key for Wired
Saab cars are usually provided with two keys. If you only have one, you should purchase an additional key as fast as you can. This is because if it's lost, the car will need an entirely new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This can be expensive, especially for used cars.
The next step is to connect the row and column wires to the microcontroller. This is the most difficult component of the project and it will require lots of soldering. There isn't a standard way to do this, but it is crucial to plan how you will route and solder the rows and columns. For this keyboard, there are five rows and 17 columns. So there will be 22 microcontroller wires and pins to connect.
After the columns and rows are soldered, it's the time to connect them to the key switches. Solder a diode to each key switch pin. This will protect the pins from current, thus preventing them from being cut off. A diode allows the flow of current to be in one direction, and it also has a an indicator in black that indicates the direction current will flow.
Some of the tools available at auto parts stores -like the Autel MaxiIM IM608 PRO and IM508 -- could assist customers at the shop or DIY users in some cases programme replacement keys and recover lost immobilizer information, Sanabria says. The tools plug into OBD ports and guide the user through each step and make the process more straightforward than replacing the car's computer.
Jump-starting the battery
A lot of people keep a set in their trunk to start a vehicle in the event of an emergency, but this might not be the best option for vehicles with newer technology. These vehicles are equipped with digital and computer systems that communicate with each other. A voltage surge while the battery is connected to another could cause damage to these components, rendering your car undriveable.
Start the vehicle you are using and allow it to run for approximately two minutes before connecting the cables to the disabled one. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the battery that is good. (It will read "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end to a clean and unpainted metal surface beneath the hood of the disabled vehicle. The engine block is an excellent choice. Don't connect the black cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery, as this could cause an ignition that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.
Once the cables are connected, turn on the disabled vehicle and let it run for about five minutes before disconnecting them in reverse order. The battery in your Saab 9-3 is recharged while you drive. It will take a while for it to recharge again. It is a good idea to buy a spare key fob as soon as you can, because replacing the only functioning one requires the installation of a new computer module and a special program to convince the system that your lost keys aren't trying to steal the car.
Replacement case
Many Saab owners have only one key for their car and if they lose it, key, it will cost them. It's expensive to add the key and also requires replacing the CIM or TWICE for older models. In the event of theft, or other catastrophe it is recommended to have a spare key. Even when the key is "new" it won't work.
The dealer will charge the highest dollars if you only have one working key. We can reset and reprogram the EEEPROM of your computer to be able to accept a replacement key without having to replace the entire system. This can save you a significant amount of money. It's cheaper to do this rather than wait until you lose your only key.
