The Unspoken Secrets Of Saab Key Fob
How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob

All cars must come with a remote/transmitter that can lock or unlock your car. Batteries in these devices can be faulty.

You can add a second key on the Saab 93 for about $400 in case you don't have two. This requires purchasing a brand new TWICE module from the dealer and installing it with the hand-held computer that is called Tech2. Tech2.

Replacement Keys

Many used Saabs come with only one key. It is a good idea, as soon as you can to buy a spare key. This will be cheaper than replacing the entire vehicle if you lose it. It is also important to rotate your keys frequently to avoid all the wear and tear and to keep them clean.

If you lose your sole key, you'll need to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) module together with a new key and a special program to convince the car that you're not attempting to steal it. These modules can cost up to $400 to replace and are only accessible via mail order. The majority of locksmiths or dealers are not able to replace the module in the same day.

The good news is, the majority of modern Saab vehicles can have a secondary key added to the system. This is possible without having to replace the original computer. The dealer will utilize a handheld computer known as Tech-2 to program the second key into the vehicle. Some garages that are independent can do this, however the process is more difficult and they need to reprogramme the EEPROM of your car's computer in order to accept the new key.

Replacement key fobs

Saab owners who lost their key last year or had it stolen require to replace it as quickly as possible. The steps involved in getting a working 9-3 Saab key fob requires the dealer's service department. It could cost hundreds of dollars, not including the price of a new key, a new TWICE module (theft alert integrated central electronics) and reprogramming to convince the vehicle that the second key isn't stolen.

The process is less expensive if you have an extra. The new key has to be connected to the original TWICE Module. A used one will not work. However, a genuine OEM replacement is available from a dealer for only a fraction of the price it costs.

It is easy to remove the case from a new SAAB Key Fob. Utilize a flathead to pry the case open however, be sure to not harm the electronics inside. After you have removed the battery and electronics, you can replace the case with the shell of the old key fob. Place saab keys in a line and then gently press them together so that they click in the right place. Once the new fob has been installed, you can resynchronize it. It's worth noting that the process of adding a new key is more difficult than simply replacing the emergency key and will require the dealer's assistance using a specific tool called the Tech-2.

Replacement Ignition Keys

If your car's ignition key doesn't engage in the ignition, or doesn't begin when you press the starter button, you must first ensure the transmission is in Park. This will stop the car from rolling in the event that your transmission lock fails, or if your manual transmission slams into gear.

In most cases, the problem is in the electronic components inside the key fob which control the way the car recognizes the key once it's put into the ignition cylinder. The metal key itself is relatively easy to copy however, the electronic component that is in the key fob what will allow the car to recognize the key.

The addition of a second key to a Saab car requires a special transmitter, a transponder that goes with it and some kind of special programming for the car to convince the computer it is not trying to steal the vehicle. Locksmiths cannot accomplish this. This is only possible through a dealer, or a handheld computer called Tech2.

The good news is that if you have one key fob that is working, the cost of adding another should be under $200 or so. If you need a steel key however, the cost to create it is an additional factor. The majority of dealers can do the same thing, however it could take some time to get the key and the car programmed.

Replacement Remotes

The Saab 9-3's cabin is designed from the driver's perspective outward, with logical layouts and a tactile feel to its controls. Its dashboard arcs around the driver, with the fun turbo vacuum gauge that adds an original touch to its instrumentation. A leather-wrapped steering column has audio, cruise control and phone controls.

The console between the seats is equipped with one cupholder and the knobs for the Bose audio and dual-zone climate controls are arranged according to logic. The touch-screen display is distracting when driving.

In terms of power the 9-3 is a capable performer. The base low pressure turbo model takes approximately 8 seconds to reach speeds of 60 mph while the more powerful Viggen can reach that speed in only 6.9 second.

The handling of this car is a major element to its success. Despite its weight distribution of 60/40 front-to-rear, the Turbo X is agile and well-balanced on two-lane highways.

The only downside to this car's amazing performance is its low fuel efficiency. The turbocharged 2.0-liter motor can achieve around 27 mpg in the city and 35 on the highway. The Turbo X special edition with more power will be available for 2008 only. The model has an exclusive rear seat that can be folded flat into the floor to maximize cargo space. It also has a unique rear spoiler and a more aggressive bumper.
