How to Replace a Saab 9-3 Key
The Saab 9-3 is a great car that is full of driver appeal. It is a powerful engine with excellent visibility. It has a very high safety rating.
saab car key is nevertheless important to make sure that you have at least two keys that are working for your car. It can be costly to replace a key in the event that you lose it.
How to Replace the Ignition Key in a Saab9-3
If your car key won't turn on you must replace it. This guide will guide you through the steps to do it on a Saab 9-3. You will need a replacement key as well as a reprogrammable battery and a new key-fob cover.
Contrary to earlier models, modern Saab automobiles use a transponder in the key-fob, instead of a physical metal key to unlock and start the car. The reprogrammable batteries inside the key-fob eventually get worn out, and eventually can't hold any charge. This is particularly true if you use the same key for the lock you have.
The good news is that it can be replaced easily by a professional locksmith. You can also do it yourself if you have the proper tools and a bit of patience. The first step is to disassemble the key-fob from its case. This is accomplished by inserting a flathead screwdriver into the slot located in middle of the case. The plastic is very thin and easily damaged.
Once the case is opened, you can prepare the new key by combining the lower half of the previous key with the banana and transponder on the new key. This will ensure that the new key is mated to the CIM correctly, which can make all the difference when replacing the only key for your Saab 9-3.
How to Replace the Ignition Key in a Saab 900
If you don't have two keys, you'll have to remove the steering wheel and dashboard in order to access the ignition. Start by disconnecting your negative battery cable. Once the battery is disconnected, you can take off the trim and dashboard pieces that surround the steering wheel. Once the dash has been removed, you can put an screwdriver into the opening behind the ignition switch.
The ignition cylinder comes with a key lock that could stop the vehicle from starting if it doesn't have the key in it. If the ignition switch isn't working properly, check to see whether the key is in the lock or is stuck inside the barrel. It is also important to rotate your keys and keep them clean to avoid bent.
Saab cars differ from other cars in that they don't use traditional keys made of metal. Instead, the car recognizes electric signals from the key fob by using the use of a special microchip.
If you only lose one functioning key fob, your dealer will charge you an extra fee to replace your computer module (also called the CIM). We can reprogram the EEPROM on your current computer to allow it to accept new keys without the need to replace it. You will save over 50% off the price of the dealer! We call it the SAAB Key PROGRAM. Learn more about it here!
How do you replace the ignition Key in a Saab9-5
The metal part of classic Saab keys is easy to duplicate and doesn't represent a significant risk to theft of vehicles. The electronic portion of the key-fob is equipped with a chip that can recognize the car when the key is put in the ignition switch.
Saab's anti-theft system has relied upon this technology for more than 10 years. It's not as effective as an actual lock on the door, but it does make the act of stealing your car more difficult. That's why every Saab owner should always have an extra key in their possession.
Most new Saabs come with two keys at the factory. However, you can upgrade them at an agent using a handheld computer called Tech-2. Tech-2. The cost can be under $400 for the transmitter+transponder (different than the metal key blade/shell that opens the doors and turns the ignition cylinder). The only exception to this is NG 9-3 vehicles, which have more modern, more advanced features that require an ignition key.
If you lose all keys and the dealer replaces your CIM or TWICE modules and charge an additional fee for it. However, we can reprogram the EEPROM on your computer and set it up to accept new keys, without having to replace the expensive modules.
How to replace the ignition Key on the Saab XC90
It's probably time to replace your SAAB key fob if you're experiencing difficulty turning the barrel of the lock. It's relatively simple and doesn't require you to visit an agent. Instead you can do it yourself at home by using the help of a few tools.
You'll first need to prepare the keys for your new car. Before you start, disable the anti-theft by placing blocks underneath your rear wheels and engaging your handbrake. Then, you can insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position which activates the accessories but does not start the engine. Repeat this five times, and then leave the key in the on position.
The next step is to find a new case for your old key fob. You can get these at any auto parts store, and they're typically very affordable. You can buy them with or without electronics, depending on the model.
To open the case you need to gently push the flathead screwdriver into the slot in the middle. The case will break easily, and once you do, you'll have access to the internal electronics. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry out the electronic components.
