Melba's excellent service and good seating arrangements are just toppings on the cake. Not only is there a mind-boggling variety of food on offer but, the quality is far superior to what you’d find at most buffets. That said though, a meal at China Bar doesn’t come cheap. There are three types of sashimi sliced to order, and the seafood on offer includes oysters, mussels, scallops, prawns, smoked salmon, and crab. This is the first time I’ve been here for lunch, but it’s good to see that aside from the duck and seafood, nothing seems to be missing.

This is reflective of all the food being served at this restaurant. Other desserts arrived, including fruit platters and deep fried Chinese milk dough. We loved the fit out and shared a meal in good company.
They also cramb tables in and are understaffed, leading to terrible service and attitude. Not all buffets are about pigging out and eating as much as possible. Agreed, Melba and Conservatory are in a totally different league to china bar. I didn't go to Bacchanal, but looking at the photos of the food it's definitely on my list to try next time, looks like they have some really delicious and unique items.
It wasnt cheap and especially if you factor in a few beers/drinks on top. The Peking duck was the best thing, while desserts were a huge disappointment. Id say go for it at this price - just dont expect the best quality.

We also have a lovely range of Japanese sake and beer for you to compliment your food, if you're keen to experience Izakaya like they do in Japan. In June 2017 we reported on some changes coming to the inner-west suburb of Burwood. New housing developments were on the cards, and an ambitious developer, Blairgrove Group, told us they were planning to create Burwood Chinatown in the block adjoining the Burwood Hotel. Under a canopy of lanterns you’ll find traditional and modern Chinese snacks, including some special desserts.
My favourite savoury section is probably the Meats Section. Here, you’ll find everything from roast pork to roast duck to Hainan chicken. And just a little bit around the corner, where the waitress is standing, they also have century egg congee and several soups in small clay pots. It operates the largest Asian buffet restaurant in Melbourne.

The chain's franchises have been involved in multiple newsworthy events. In 2015, its flagship CBD locations burned down causing $250,000 in damage and causing the neighbouring restaurant Stalactites to close. In 2021, the Epping Pty Ltd chain was fined ~$300,000 for underpaying its migrant workers and falsifying records.

– Arguably the best item on offer at China Bar if you’re here for lunch. Juicy tender meat that’s not at all dry, capped off with a thin shard of crackling that audibly shatters, despite having sat out for a while. – Once again nothing too different from food court offerings, but the meat to fat ratio was better than expected. But really, a must-have as long as it’s on the menu, and China Bar’s version just happens to be excellent.
