Replacement Handles For Windows
Window handles are one of the most frequently used components of your double-glazed windows. As time passes, they may get rusty or worn out.
You will have to know your current handle's spindle length and its fixings in order to replace it. The best way to do this is to examine the base of your previous handle.
Handle
Over time uPVC handles and window locks can be damaged by wear and tear or accidental or deliberate damage. It is possible that the handle or lock becomes difficult to open or close, or that they are not even locked. If this happens, it could be tempting to replace the entire window unit, but it's not always necessary. It is often the situation that a new handle or lock is sufficient.
The espagnolette style is the most common uPVC window handle. This has a spindle which extends from the handle and slot into a gearbox that operates the multipoint locking mechanism in the window. We have a range of replacement handles and locks for all types of uPVC window to ensure they work together properly.
It is a good idea, when replacing the handle of a uPVC handle, to use screw covers to protect the screws from rust and ensure they remain secure. Alternatively, it's possible to make use of a spacer or washer to allow for a tighter seal. A screw cap that is on the handle will also keep debris and water from entering the handle and damaging the handle.
After the handle has been removed from the window, it's recommended to wash the spindle of the new handle, and also the threaded section of the bolt. This will ensure that the new handle fits and works properly, and it can also help stop dirt from getting into the multipoint lock.
The next step is to install the new uPVC handle. It is crucial to follow the directions provided with your new handle, and to take a look at your previous one prior to beginning to get an idea of how to do it correctly. The process is usually simple. If you encounter any issues that aren't covered in this guide, we suggest contact our team for more details.
It's also important to note that if you are replacing the uPVC handle with a cockspur (also called an Espag handle) you will need to check the step height of the window to find the right size of handle. The step height is the distance from the base or frame of the window to the point at which the nose of the cockspur handle rests when it is put in place.
Hinges
If your windows are starting to open and close with a visible gap, it could be due to the hinges not being in line with the frame. This is usually an easy fix and can be solved with a new set of replacement hinges for windows. We can offer a variety of different options and even customize the dimensions of the hinges to meet your needs.
We can provide a variety of hinges for Upvc and timber windows. These hinges are available in different colours to fit with the existing frames. They also come with all the fixings needed to install them. If you have a double glazed window that has an older style of hinge, we can also supply a range of repair screws that permit you to cut the thread back into the frame.
We offer a wide range of hinges. They include conventional casement hinges that can be used in conjunction with a tilt and turn handle or a standard handle as well as the fire escape egress sash hinges, designed for larger side hung windows. These hinges are designed to fully open in the event of an emergency and include an easy-clean position. We also carry hinges that are restricted in egress and are designed to restrict the opening angle of the window to a maximum of 100mm perfect for families with children.
Squeaky hinges can be a sign that the hinges are worn out, and this is usually due to the friction of metal against. A small drop of lubricant may help but should the noise continue to be heard, it is likely that the hinges will need to be replaced.
This is due to plumb windows being able to avoid optional binding. The operating sash is aligned with the frame and the window will close and open properly. A window that is not plumb can start to open and close with difficulty or be distorted over time, creating problems for the seal and the appearance of the window.
When purchasing replacement upvc window hinges, be aware that they can be bought in imperial or metric sizes. upvc door handle tend to be a little more precise, but it's not noticeable once they are installed. The first corner holes on the track are standard but the others may differ based on the original hardware. We advise that you measure the hole spacings on your frame prior to purchasing any hinges made of upvc to ensure they are the right size.
Crank
Normal wear and tear over time can result in damage to the window handle, lock or crank mechanism. This can make it difficult to open and close your windows. It could also affect their security. If you notice that your window is difficult to open or close, or you hear a clicking noise when you turn the handle, it may be an indication that you have to replace the crank mechanism. If you can't close your window or the multipoint locks is damaged, it might be worth replacing this component as well.
It's simple to replace the window crank with minimum effort. However, it is essential to buy the correct size replacement. Make sure the replacement has the same step height as the old one, which can be determined by measuring the distance between the crank arm guide bushing and the notch that runs along the track across the bottom of the window frame. You can also determine the spindle length on your current handle to determine the size of the replacement.
The kind of window handle you have will determine which kind of crank mechanism is required for your casement or awning windows. Espag handles are equipped with a spindle that is a mental component on the back that is connected to the frame of the window, and controls the window mechanism, while cockspur handles have pegs that are held in place with screws of three or four which are fixed to the sash and frame.
It's simple to replace the window operator after you've identified the correct replacement. First, take off any trim mounting screws that are on the window's casement cover and then carefully lift it off to reveal the window operator innards (Photo 1). Remove any rusted trim screws and then compare the new operating lever with the previous to ensure they match. Then, screw the new lever to the window frame, and replace any screws that are rusted or bent, and place the casement cover over the mechanism.
