This paper presents domain and structure studies of bonded magnets made from nanocrystalline Nd-(Fe, Co)-B powder. The structure studies were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry. On the basis of performed qualitative and quantitative phase composition studies, it was found that investigated alloy was mainly composed of Nd2(Fe-Co)14B hard magnetic phase (98 vol%) and a small amount of Nd1.1Fe4B4 paramagnetic phase (2 vol%). The best fit of grain size distribution was achieved for the lognormal function. The mean grain size determined from transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images on the basis of grain size distribution and diffraction pattern using the Bragg equation was about ≈130 nm. HRTEM images showed that over-stoichiometric Nd was mainly distributed on the grain boundaries as a thin amorphous border of 2 nm in width. The domain structure was investigated using a scanning electron microscope and metallographic light microscope, respectively, by Bitter and Kerr methods, and by magnetic force microscopy. Domain structure studies revealed that the observed domain structure had a labyrinth shape, which is typically observed in magnets, where strong exchange interactions between grains are present. The analysis of the domain structure in different states of magnetization revealed the dynamics of the reversal magnetization process.Magnesium-based alloys are attractive as hydrogen storage materials due to their lightweight and high absorption, but their high operating temperatures and very slow kinetics are obstacles to practical applications. Therefore, the effect of CaO has improved the hydrogenation kinetics and slowed down the degradation. The Mg2NiHx-CaO composites were prepared by hydrogen-induced mechanical alloying (HIMA). Hydrogenation kinetics was performed by using an Automatic PCT Measuring System and evaluated in the temperature range of 423, 523, and 623 K. As a result of calculating the hydrogen absorption amounts through the hydrogenation kinetics curve, they were calculated as about 0.52 wt%, 1.21 wt%, and 1.59 wt% (Mg2NiHx-10 wt% CaO). In this study, the material environmental aspects of Mg2NiHx-CaO composites were investigated through life cycle assessment (LCA). LCA was performed analyzing the environmental impact characteristics of the manufacturing process by using Gabi software and the Eco-Indicator 99' and Centrum voor Milieuweten schappen (CML 2001) methodology. As a result, the contents of global warming potential (GWP) and fossil fuels were found to have a higher impact than other impact categories.Intravascular ultrasound has good prospects for clinical applications in sonothrombolysis. The catheter-based side-looking intravascular ultrasound thrombolysis (e.g., Ekosonic catheters) used in clinical studies has a high frequency (2 MHz). The lower-frequency ultrasound requires a larger-diameter transducer. In our study, we designed and manufactured a small ultrasound-based prototype catheter that can emit a lower frequency ultrasound (1.1 MHz). In order to evaluate the safety and efficacy of local low-frequency ultrasound-enhanced thrombolysis, a microbubble (MB) was introduced to augment thrombolysis effect of locally delivered low-intensity ultrasound. The results demonstrated that combination of ultrasound and MB realized higher clot lysis than urokinase-only treatment (17.0% ± 1.2% vs. 14.9% ± 2.7%) under optimal ultrasound settings of 1.1 MHz, 0.414 MPa, 4.89 W/cm2, 5% duty cycle and MB concentration of 60 μg/mL. When urokinase was added, the fibrinolysis accelerated by MB and ultrasound resulted in a further increased thrombolysis rate that was more than two times than that of urokinase alone (36.7% ± 5.5% vs. 14.9% ± 2.7%). However, a great quantity of ultrasound energy was required to achieve substantial clot lysis without MB, leading to the situation that temperature accumulated inside the clot became harmful. We suggest that MB-assisted local sonothrombolysis be considered as adjuvant therapy of thrombolytic agents. With the majority of research, in relation to 3D object reconstruction, focusing on single static synthetic object reconstruction, there is a need for a method capable of reconstructing morphing objects in dynamic scenes without external influence. However, such research requires a time-consuming creation of real world object ground truths. To solve this, we propose a novel three-staged deep adversarial neural network architecture capable of denoising and refining real-world depth sensor input for full human body posture reconstruction. The proposed network has achieved Earth Mover and Chamfer distances of 0.059 and 0.079 on synthetic datasets, respectively, which indicates on-par experimental results with other approaches, in addition to the ability of reconstructing from maskless real world depth frames. Additional visual inspection to the reconstructed pointclouds has shown that the suggested approach manages to deal with the majority of the real world depth sensor noise, with the exception of large deformities to the depth field.Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) remains an important cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a key mechanism, promoting not only the invasive or metastatic phenotype but also resistance to therapy. Using bioinformatics approaches, we studied the alteration on EMT related genes and its implication on COAD prognostic based on public datasets. For the EMT mechanisms, two overexpressed genes were identified (NOX4 and IGF2BP3), as well as five downregulated genes (BMP5, DACT3, EEF1A2, GCNT2 and SFRP1) that were related to prognosis in COAD. A qRT-PCR validation step was conducted in a COAD patient cohort comprising of 29 tumor tissues and 29 normal adjacent tissues, endorsing the expression level for BMP5, as well as for two of the miRNAs targeting key EMT related genes, revealing upregulation of miR-27a-5p and miR-146a-5p. The EMT signature can be used to develop a panel of biomarkers for recurrence prediction in COAD patients, which may contribute to the improvement of risk stratification for the patients.Information theory is a unifying mathematical theory to measure information content, which is key for research in cryptography, statistical physics, and quantum computing [...].We report the design and fabrication by laser direct writing via two photons polymerization of innovative hierarchical structures with cell-repellency capability. The structures were designed in the shape of "mushrooms", consisting of an underside (mushroom's leg) acting as a support structure and a top side (mushroom's hat) decorated with micro- and nanostructures. A ripple-like pattern was created on top of the mushrooms, over length scales ranging from several µm (microstructured mushroom-like pillars, MMP) to tens of nm (nanostructured mushroom-like pillars, NMP). The MMP and NMP structures were hydrophobic, with contact angles of (127 ± 2)° and (128 ± 4)°, respectively, whereas flat polymer surfaces were hydrophilic, with a contact angle of (43 ± 1)°. The cell attachment on NMP structures was reduced by 55% as compared to the controls, whereas for the MMP, a reduction of only 21% was observed. Moreover, the MMP structures preserved the native spindle-like with phyllopodia cellular shape, whereas the cells from NMP structures showed a round shape and absence of phyllopodia. Overall, the NMP structures were more effective in impeding the cellular attachment and affected the cell shape to a greater extent than the MMP structures. The influence of the wettability on cell adhesion and shape was less important, the cellular behavior being mainly governed by structures' topography. In this study, biometrics assessment of flower structure, cluster-, and berry-related traits were evaluated in a population of 90 muscadine grape genotypes for three consecutive years. This population consisted of 21 standard cultivars, 60 breeding lines, and 9 Vitis x Muscadinia hybrids (VM hybrids). Cluster length (CL) and width (CWI) characteristics exhibited slight differences among the population, with a range estimated at 7.1 and 4.6 cm, respectively. However, cluster weight (CWE), number of berries/cluster (N.B/C), and cluster compactness (CC) traits showed more diversity between individuals with a calculated range of 205.6 g, 32.6 B/C, and 24.1, respectively. Interestingly, all berry-related traits greatly varied between individuals, excluding the number of seeds/berry (N.S/B) character. The N.S/B trait displayed a narrow range of 5.6 seeds within the population. However, characters of berry length (BL), width (BWI), weight (BWE), the weight of seeds/berry (W.S/B), firmness (FF), and dry scar pattern (SP) demonstrated a wide estimated range of 21.2 mm, 21.7 mm, 25.4 g, 0.71 g, 0.21 N, and 82%, respectively. Normal distribution analysis for each trait suggested different distribution patterns extended between unimodal to multimodal behavior. Hierarchical mapping analysis was able to classify the population into several clades based on physical cluster- and berry-related attributes. The PCA suggested that hermaphroditic (perfect) flower structure is associated with compact clusters exhibiting small berries in size and weight (i.e., muscadine genotypes suitable for wine production). However, female flower structure is associated with clusters displaying large berries in size and weight (i.e., muscadine genotypes appropriate for fresh consumption). These patterns occurred independently of cluster size and weight characters. This research is the first study evaluating muscadine biometrics characters at a population level, providing valuable information for market demand and muscadine breeding programs. There are reports that pregnant women infected with SARS-CoV-2 not only have increased morbidity but also increased complications and evidence of maternal and fetal vascular malperfusion on placental pathology. This was a retrospective study of pregnant women diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection after March 2020. The results of reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction testing and IgM and IgG antibody testing of the amniotic fluid, cord blood, placenta, and maternal blood were confirmed at delivery. Placentas were evaluated histopathologically. The study included seven pregnant women diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy at a mean gestational age of 14.5 weeks. Out of the seven women, five were infected during the first trimester. The mean gestational age at delivery was 38.4 weeks. The reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction results for maternal plasma, cord blood, placenta, and amniotic fluid were negative and IgG antibodies were detected in maternal plasma and cord blood. On placental pathology, maternal vascular malperfusion was found in only one case, fetal vascular malperfusion in four cases, and inflammatory changes were found in two cases. Pregnancy outcomes for women diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection during early pregnancy are positive and it is likely that maternal antibodies are passed to the fetus, which results in a period of immunity.
