This review aims to describe the possible pulmonary sequelae after COVID-19 pneumonia, as well as to suggest diagnostic procedures for their correct assessment and follow-up; thus, allowing proper management by a multidisciplinary medical team. The clinical manifestations of COVID-19 are reminiscent of those of acute respiratory distress syndrome induced by cytokine release syndrome and secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis that is observed in patients with other coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV. Neurologists face the challenge of assessing patients with pre-existing neurological diseases who have contracted SARS-CoV-2, patients with COVID-19 who present neurological emergencies, and patients who are carriers of the virus and have developed secondary neurological complications, either during the course of the disease or after it. Some authors and recent literature reports suggest that the presence of neurological manifestations in patients who are carriers of SARS-CoV-2 may be associated with a greater severity of the disease.
Short bowel syndrome is the result of an extensive surgical resection that leaves the length of the small intestine at a critical value for the proper nutritional absorption. An increased risk of food allergy has been described in patients who suffer from this condition.

To describe the prevalence of allergic diseases in a group of patients with short bowel syndrome.

A descriptive, cross-sectional, and ambispective study was carried out; it included patients with short bowel syndrome who had attended the nephrology service of the National Institute of Pediatrics in a period of 18 months. Information about medical records, surgery history, diet history, and food tolerance was collected with prior authorization of parents or legal guardians. Likewise, there was questioning about history of atopy, and validated questionnaires for allergic diseases were applied in Spanish. The following tests were carried out skin tests with allergen extracts, determination of four foods specific immunoglobulin E, patch test, and open oral food challenge. The protocol was authorized by the research ethics committee.

Fifteen patients with a median age of 44 months (range of 8-128 months) and with a male/female ratio of 21 were included. The most common causes of SBS were necrotizing enterocolitis and intestinal atresia. 27% of the patients had a family history of atopy and 40 % of the patients had a personal history that suggested an allergy to cow's milk in infancy. Allergic diseases were found in 40 %.

Allergic diseases seem to have high prevalence in patients with SBS. More studies in large populations are required in order to confirm this discovery.

The hemophagocytic syndrome is a serious complication of several systemic illnesses.

To define the characteristics of the hemophagocytic syndrome at a pediatric specialty hospital in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Mexico; incidences, underdiagnosis and overdiagnosis, associated conditions, treatment, and prognosis were included.

214 cases of probable hemophagocytic syndrome that were seen between January 2011 and May 2019 were analyzed. 26 patients diagnosed with hemophagocytic syndrome and 188 cases with suspicion of this entity and/or ferritin > 500 ug/L were included. The cases that met four or more criteria of the HFS (Histiocyte Society, 2004) were included in this study.

Thirty-five cases were validated (fourteen were previously diagnosed, nine had suspicion, and twelve had ferritin > 500 μg/L). Neither twelve out of 26 of the cases that were previously diagnosed (46.2 % overdiagnosed). Of the 35 validated cases, 21 hadn’t been diagnosed (60 % underdiagnosed) met the diagnostic criteria of the HFS. The annual occurrence was of 2.0/1000 egresses. The Epstein-Barr virus was involved in 42 % of the cases. The overall mortality was of 80 %.

Hemophagocytic syndrome had been significantly underdiagnosed and overdiagnosed at the analyzed hospital. The clinical features allow early suspicion, diagnosis, and treatment. Specific and non-specific illnesses that were associated to hemophagocytic syndrome were identified.

Allergen-specific immunotherapy is an important therapeutic modality for the management of allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma.

To assess the effectiveness and safety of allergen-specific subcutaneous immunotherapy in patients with respiratory allergies at the University Hospital of Puebla after twelve months of treatment.

A longitudinal, sequential, analytic, quasi-experimental, prolective study. The study was carried out for twelve months with patients of both sexes, aged four to sixty-five years, diagnosed with asthma and/or rhinitis, and with sensitization to aeroallergens. The CARAT and Portnoy questionnaires were collected every two months in order to assess the effectiveness and safety respectively.

47 patients were included 37 (78.7 %) of them were female. The average age was 29.8 years. 76.6 % of them were diagnosed with allergic rhinitis, and 23.4 % of them were diagnosed with both asthma and allergic rhinitis. The comparison of averages of the initial CARAT questionnaire against the final average by means of a student's t-test showed a t-value of -8.86 and a p-value of < 0.05. A total frequency of local adverse reactions of 19 % and systemic adverse reactions of 2.1 % was reported after 6 and 12 months of treatment.

The assessed scheme of immunotherapy, derived from the Mexican clinical practice guidelines of immunotherapy 2011, is effective with a desirable safety profile.

To determine and evaluate the rate of diplopia after Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation surgery.

The records of patients who underwent AGV implantation in our hospital between the years of 2010 and 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients who were referred to our strabismus department due to binocular diplopia after AGV implantation surgery were included. The details of postoperative day 1, day 7, day 15, and 1 month examinations were recorded. In the postoperative period, the onset time of diplopia complaints, diplopia type, and the presence of diplopia at distance and near fixation were noted. Ocular motility examination and deviation measurements were evaluated.

Ten (47%) of 211 patients who underwent AGV implantation in our hospital between 2010 and 2017 met the study inclusion criteria. Six of the 10 patients were men (60%) and 4 were women (40%). The mean age of the patients was 44.5 (34-63) years. Complaints of diplopia developed at a mean of 14.5±12.3 (1-30) days after AGV implantation. The prism measurements of the patients were found to be 8.4±1.4 prism diopters (PD) exotropia and 7.1±8.8 PD hypotropia. While 8 patients had diplopia only at near distance, 2 patients had diplopia at both distance and near. Three patients were treated with prismatic glasses, and their complaints of diplopia recovered spontaneously in 5.11±4.10 months. The other 7 patients were followed up without treatment, and their diplopia complaints resolved spontaneously in 6.11±4.40 months.

Although most of the diplopia that develops after AGV implant surgery resolves without treatment, prismatic glasses might be considered as a treatment option in patients whose diplopia affects their daily lives.

The aim of this study was to show at what rate the technological equipment used in cataract surgery by Turkish ophthalmologists and their knowledge are reflected in practice and how up to date they are.

A questionnaire conducted using SurveyMonkey was used to evaluate the answers to 17 questions from 823 members of the Turkish Ophthalmological Association. Results were evaluated in subgroups according to the participants' age, occupational status, institutions, and whether they conducted relevant academic activities, and the data were compared as inadequate, standard, and contemporary approaches according to the determined criteria.

Optical biometry devices were used at rates of 77.7% and 67.3% for intraocular lens (IOL) power calculations and keratometric measurements in preparation for cataract surgery, respectively. For IOL power calculation, third-generation formulas, especially the SRK-T, were used most commonly (46.2%), followed by second-generation formulas (21.9%), and fourth/fifth-generation fos were able to use high technology for surgical preparation and surgery at high rates, but this was not reflected in practice at same rate in terms of achieving contemporary standards of refractive cataract surgery. Objective To investigate the role of Orai1-mediated store-operated calcium entry in the immune damage of CD4+ T cells in septic mice. Methods Sepsis mouse model was established by cecal ligation and puncture(CLP). Balb/c mice of clean grade were sacrificed 1, 3, and 5 days after operation. Spleen samples were harvested at given intervals. Splenic CD4+ T cells were selected by immunomagnetic beads and the expression of Orai1 protein was detected by western blotting, the storage operated calcium entry (SOCE) was detected by flow cytometry, the apoptosis of CD4+ T cells was detected by flow cytometry, the proliferation of CD4+ T cells was detected by CCK-8, and the IFN-γ and IL-4 were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Then the expression of Orai1 protein was regulated to further detect the SOCE and immune function of splenic CD4+ T cells in mice. The experiment was divided into 4 groups, sham group, CLP3 group, Orai1 down group (Orai1-down group) and Orai1 up regulation group (Orai1-up groupased value of fluorescence intensity of CD4+ T cells was significantly decreased, the early and late apoptosis ratio of CD4+ T cells was significantly increased, the OD450 nm value of CD4+ T cells was decreased, the multiplication capacity of splenic CD4+ T cells were decreased, the level of IFN-γ and IL-4 secreted by T cells were decreased, and the value of IFN-γ/IL-4 in orai1-down group was decreased (t=4.819, 7.952, 2.988, 28.760, 3.140, 7.670, all P less then 0.05). However, Orail-up group showed the opposite trend. Conclusion Orai1-mediated store-operated calcium entry can alleviate the immune dysfunction of CD4+ T cells in septic mice. Objective To analyze the characteristic changes of corneal nerve fibers in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) by corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) and investigate the association of corneal nerve fiber parameters with disease severity and motor symptoms. Methods Forty-two patients with PD were recruited from the Department of Neurology, Henan University People's Hospital from June 2018 to October 2019. Meanwhile, 40 healthy controls who visited the hospital for physical examination at the same period were enrolled. Corneal nerve fibers in both eyes of all participants were detected by using CCM. The differences of corneal nerve fibers were comparatively analyzed between PD group and healthy controls. Associations of corneal nerve parameters with clinical characteristics such as course of disease, Hoehn and Yahr stage (H-Y stage), unified Parkinson disease rating scale (UPDRS), levodopa equivalent daily dosage (LEDD) were analyzed by using partial correlations. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to analyze the capability of corneal nerve fibers for distinguishing patients with PD from healthy controls.
