Types of uPVC Windows Handles
If a window handle or lock breaks it can be a time-consuming task to find a replacement that matches the existing mechanisms. The first thing to identify is the kind of handle you have.
Then, you must know the step height. This is the distance from the handle's nose to the base or frame where it is installed. Also, you should be aware of handing, if applicable.
Espag
Espag is a handle type that sits on uPVC doors and windows. These handles are turned to operate a multi-point locking system that secures the uPVC or timber casement window when it is opened. They can also be found on French doors as well as on other types of window frames. These handles are the most secure for windows with double glazing, since they have multiple locks that the handle turns when it is in use.
The handles feature a metal spindle that is inserted into a gearbox within the window to operate a set of multi-point locks found on the outside of the window. They are available as roller cams, shootbolts or deadbolts. This makes them ideal for uPVC or aluminum windows. They come in straight and cranked styles, depending on the way your windows were made.
There are many different types of espagnolette handles available on our online store. There are a few that are designed to be key operated to provide extra security, and others that don't have this feature. The handles' designs vary from a simple flat style to an elegant ringed design. Certain handles are available in different sizes of spindles. This is important as the size of the uPVC window handle must match the spindle length that is fitted to the window.
If you're considering replacing the handle on your uPVC window or install new windows, it is important to be aware of the differences between the cockspur and espag handles. This will allow you to choose the right replacement. Cockspur handles are usually fitted to older styles of double glazed windows, while espag handles are typical for modern homes with uPVC windows.
The espag is distinct from the cockspur as it utilizes an rod called an espagnolette (a flat strip of metal) that runs across the locking side of the window. The rod is then fitted with round studs, called mushrooms that move up and down when the handle of an espagnolette is moved. The mushrooms are then locked in a metal plate referred to as a keep on the window frame.
Turn and tilt
Tilt-and-turn windows combine European elegance, increased functionality, and enhanced security, while also maximizing energy efficiency. They are a great choice for building projects or homeowners that want to increase the value of properties or homes.
These windows have a unique dual function handle that allows the window to tilt to the side for ventilation, and then turn open like an entrance for cleaning. They also serve as an excellent escape point in the event of an emergency and can be large enough to allow egress.
Tilt and turn windows are simple to operate and look fantastic in various designs for homes and buildings. They have features that aren't found in other types of windows, including different opening options, bars to create more traditional appearance and a wide range of materials and finishes. They can also be painted to match any color or style you want.
When the window is closed it is locked. When the handle is in the upward vertical position, the sash will be tilted inward by about 20 degrees. This is an efficient and comfortable way to ventilate because air circulates through the top gap.
To turn the window it is necessary to rotate the handle until it is at a 90 degree angle to the lock position. The sash will then open upwards and be secured by hinges at the bottom. This allows for the windows to be opened further which allows for more light and airflow.
Tilt and turn windows are also a great option for those who have small children or pets because they can be opened from the bottom, without allowing them to fall out of the window. They are also safe to be left open even when away from home, as the hinge at the bottom stops them from being opened too far and also prevents them from being damaged by burglars. They are a great option for people looking to cut down on heating costs and improve efficiency since they offer the highest level of thermal insulation. This is achieved by using the multi-chamber profile, as well as double or triple glazing.
Cockspur
Cockspur hawthorn is an attractive ornamental landscape tree that is ideal to be used in hedging or privacy borders. It's got an attractive umbrella growth habit, spring blooms, and fall fruits. It is also completely thornless and provides great winter interest. It can also withstand difficult growing conditions making it a good choice for urban lots.
The cockspur hawthorn can be seen as either a large deciduous plant or a small tree with a flat or rounded crown and spreading branches. It is a popular choice for landscaping due to its vibrant foliage, vibrant fall color, and durability. repairmywindowsanddoors can grow in most soil types, but prefers rich, well-drained soil and full sun. Its leaves have a long egg shape with a wedge base and fine serrations along the margins. It is found in savannas, woodlands, and grasslands that are upland. The flowers bloom in the latter part of spring or early summer, and emit an unpleasant odor. They produce stunning red or orange berries that persist through winter.
The Thornless Cockspur Hawthorn could be a safer alternative to the native species which has sharp thorns. The thornless (Crataegus Crus-galli Vari. inermis) has the same appearance, with an umbrella-like pattern of growth and the same stunning foliage color. It's a great option for planting in areas where children will play, since it doesn't carry the same danger of injuries as straight species.
As with most plants, cockspur hawthorn requires well-drained soil that's slightly acidic to neutral. It is tolerant of drought and floods during the season, but isn't suitable for soils that are consistently oversaturated. It is also susceptible to various diseases, including cedar-hawthorne and rust.
The cockspur hawthorn that is thornless is a great choice for urban gardens due to the fact that it's completely thornless and provides year-round interest with its beautiful foliage, vibrant fall color, and persistent fruits. Its dark, platy bark and fine, bare twigs give the garden a distinct texture. Its flowers attract bees as well as other pollinators and moths. The cockspur hawthorn is a robust and adaptable plant, which makes it ideal for hedges or in mass planters.
