Clove oil is known for its medicinal properties. The mechanism of anti-cancer properties of
were investigated by mathematical modelling on the genome scale with metabolomics using 1H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy on Raji cells.
An integrative analysis correlated the metabolites identified by
HNMR and genes with the detected pathways.
Raji cells treated with clove oil were collected and sent for
HNMR spectroscopy and the spectra analyzed by MATLAB and Human Metabolome Database for metabolite identification. Pathway and topology analysis was implemented using the genes and metabolites in the integrative analysis of Metaboanalyst software.
50% inhibitory concentration of clove oil was 50 µg/ml and the model anticipated 74 genes with differentiating metabolites being some amino acids, cholesterol and fucose.
The integrative study predicted that the anti cancer mechanism of clove oil involves novel enzymes, as likely drug targets, 24-dehydrocholesterol reductase and 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase in cholesterol biosynthesis, dehydrofolate reductase in one carbon metabolism and serine palmitoyl-transferase long chain in sphingolipid biosynthesis.

(SA) is known as an important human pathogen, which is responsible for many cases of both hospital and community-acquired infections all over the world. Studying on drug resistance is regarded as an important prevention strategy regarding these types of infections.
The current study is aimed to assess the association between the single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and resistance to antibiotics in the methicillin-resistant
(MRSA) strains as well as the molecular typing of isolates, collected from the clinical samples.
We used the disc-diffusion method to test the isolates antibiotic resistance. In addition, the genotypes of staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) in the Methicillin-resistant
isolates were determined by multiplex -polymerase chain reaction (PCR). SNP was identified in the
gene using sequencing and amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction (ARMS-PCR) method.
The highest resistance was shown against oxacillin, and erythromycin and cephalexin. There is a 95%probability of association between SNP and resistance to more than three antibiotics in MRSA strains.
Kallar Kahar lake, Punjab, Pakistan is a rich source of phytoplankton which can be used for biofuel production.
This study was conducted to investigate the presence of different microalgae species present in this lake and their possible utilization for bioenergy production.
The crude culture was examined under microscope. Isolation of the identified species was carried out by using serial dilution and colony picking methods. Isolated strains were evaluated by investigating their biomass productivity, salinity resistance and auto-flocculation ability.
Four different microalgae species (
) were identified in the crude sample. The experimental results indicated that, among the four isolated strains, the
species showed highest biomass productivity (4.2 gL
) and
showed comparatively higher salt resistance.
also showed great potential of auto-flocculation as around 70 % of its cells sediment within 5 h without addition of any external flocculating agent. The lipid content in the isolated strains has also been carried out using Soxhlet extraction.
Four different microalgae strains have been found in Kallar Kahar lake that reflected good biomass productivity and are capable of auto-flocculation.

The recent pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has resulted in many challenges to the healthcare organizations around the world. Unfortunately, until now, there are no proven effective therapeutic agents against this virus.
Several evolving studies suggest repurposing a potential list of drugs which have appropriate pharmacological and therapeutic effects to be used in treating COVID-19 cases. In the present review, we will summarize the potential drugs suggested to be repurposed to be utilized in the treatment of COVID-19 patients like lopinavir-ritonavir, ribavirin, baloxavir marboxil, favipiravir, remdesvir, umifenovir, chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, corticosteroids, losartan, statins, interferons, nitric oxide, epoprostenol, tocilizumab, siltuximab, sarilumab anakinra, and ruxolitinib. In addition, we discussed the possible future therapeutic regimens based on the recent molecular and genomic discoveries.
This review could provide beneficial information about the potential current and future treatment strategies to treat the pandemic COVID-19 disease.

Several research groups have reported an association between cigarette smoking and increased severity of COVID-19. The exact mechanism of action is largely unclear. We exposed low angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)-expressing human pulmonary adenocarcinoma A549 epithelial cells to nicotine and assessed ACE2 expression at different times. We further used the nicotine-exposed cells in a virus neutralisation assay. Nicotine exposure induces rapid and long-lasting increases in gene and protein expression of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) receptor ACE2, which in turn translates into increased competence for SARS-CoV-2 replication and cytopathic effect. These findings show that nicotine worsens SARS-CoV-2 pulmonary infection and have implications for public health policies.
Ganglion impar block alone or pulsed radiofrequency alone are effective options for treating perineal pain. However, ganglion impar block combined with pulsed radiofrequency (GIB-PRF) for treating perineal pain is rare and the puncture is usually performed with X-ray or computed tomography guidance.
To evaluate the safety and clinical efficacy of real-time ultrasound-guided GIB-PRF in treating perineal pain.
Thirty patients with perineal pain were included and were treated by GIB-PRF guided by real-time ultrasound imaging between January 2015 and December 2016. Complications were recorded to observe the safety of the ultrasound-guided GIB-PRF procedure, and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores at 24 h before and after treatment and 1, 3, and 6 mo later were analyzed to evaluate clinical efficacy.
Ultrasound-guided GIB-PRF was performed successfully in all patients, and no complications occurred. Compared with pretreatment scores, the VAS scores were significantly lower (
< 0.05) at the four time points after treatment. The VAS scores at 1 and 3 mo were slightly lower than those at 24 h (
> 0.05) and were significantly lower at 6 mo after treatment (
< 0.05). There was a tendency toward lower VAS scores at 6 mo after treatment compared with those at 1 and 3 mo (
> 0.05).
Ultrasound-guided GIB-PRF was a safe and effective way to treat perineal pain. The 6-mo short-term clinical efficacy was favorable, but the long-term outcomes need future study.

Anterior cervical surgery can eliminate not only chronic neck pain, cervical radiculopathy or myelopathy, but also dizziness. Immunohistochemical studies show that a large number of mechanoreceptors, especially Ruffini corpuscles, are present in degenerated cervical discs. The available evidence suggests a key role of Ruffini corpuscles in the pathogenesis of dizziness caused by cervical degenerative disease (i.e. cervical discogenic dizziness). Disc degeneration is characterized by an elevation of inflammatory cytokines, which stimulates the mechanoreceptors in degenerated discs and results in peripheral sensitization. Abnormal cervical proprioceptive inputs from the mechanoreceptors are transmitted to the central nervous system, resulting in sensory mismatches with vestibular and visual information and leads to dizziness. In addition, neck pain caused by cervical disc degeneration can play a key role in cervical discogenic dizziness by increasing the sensitivity of muscle spindles. Like cervical discogenic pain, the diagnosis of cervical discogenic dizziness can be challenging and can be made only after other potential causes of dizziness have been ruled out. Conservative treatment is effective for the majority of patients. Existing basic and clinical studies have shown that cervical intervertebral disc degeneration can lead to dizziness.Clinical studies have suggested that internal and/or external aversive cues may produce a negative affective-motivational component whereby maladaptive responses (plasticity) of dural afferent neurons are initiated contributing to migraine chronification. However, pathophysiological processes and neural circuitry involved in aversion (unpleasantness)-producing migraine chronification are still evolving. An interdisciplinary team conducted this narrative review aimed at reviewing neuronal plasticity for developing migraine chronicity and its relevant neurocircuits and providing the most cutting-edge information on neuronal mechanisms involved in the processing of affective aspects of pain and the role of unpleasantness evoked by internal and/or external cues in facilitating the chronification process of migraine headache. Thus, information presented in this review promotes the understanding of the pathophysiology of chronic migraine and contribution of unpleasantness (aversion) to migraine chronification. We hope that it will bring clinicians' attention to how the maladaptive neuroplasticity of the emotion brain in the aversive environment produces a significant impact on the chronification of migraine headache, which will in turn lead to new therapeutic strategies for this type of pain.On the basis of continuous improvement in recent years, radiofrequency therapy technology has been widely developed, and has become an effective method for the treatment of various intractable pain. Radiofrequency therapy is a technique that uses special equipment and puncture needles to output ultra-high frequency radio waves and accurately act on local tissues. In order to standardize the application of radiofrequency technology in the treatment of painful diseases, Chinese Association for the Study of Pain (CASP) has developed a consensus proposed by many domestic experts and scholars.
