All rights reserved.INTRODUCTION Dynamic spectral imaging (DSI) colposcopy has previously been found to improve sensitivity of CIN2+ detection. The aim of this study was to compare the histological diagnosis of colposcopic-directed biopsies (CDB) with that of DSI-directed biopsies in women undergoing conization, using the histological diagnosis of the conization specimen as gold standard. MATERIAL AND METHODS Women referred for colposcopy were included in a prospective cohort study at Randers Regional Hospital, Denmark, from January 2016 to February 2019. All women had four cervical punch biopsies taken. The first biopsy was taken from the area that appeared most abnormal by conventional colposcopy (ie, CDB) and the second biopsy from the area that appeared most abnormal using the DSI map. An additional two biopsies were taken either from other visible lesions or as random biopsies. Biopsies were analyzed separately. If any biopsies revealed cervical dysplasia of such a degree that excisional treatment was recommended, the patieplasia grade between CDB and DSI-directed biopsies. A higher detection rate of cervical dysplasia was achieved with four biopsies than with one CDB biopsy or one DSI-directed biopsy. © 2020 Nordic Federation of Societies of Obstetrics and Gynecology (NFOG). Published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.BACKGROUND The interfacial activation mechanism of lipase enables it to exhibit high catalytic activity in water-in-oil (W/O) microemulsions. However, W/O microemulsions have obvious defects such as a small water pool and a large demand for surfactants. The present study investigated the substitutability of conventional oil-in-water (O/W) and W/O emulsions as lipase catalytic systems. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/gold nanoparticles (GNPs) or CNT-GNP electrostatically bonded complexes were added into the conventional emulsion system. RESULTS The simulated biphasic system and fluorescence study showed different and even contradictory results for the interfacial behavior of CNTs and CNT-GNP complexes due to the variation of the dispersibility of CNTs in cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). Results also showed that conventional O/W emulsions were more suitable for lipase catalysis than conventional W/O emulsions. When CNTs or CNTCATB -GNP complexes were added in a conventional O/W emulsion system, the catalytic activity of lipase was significantly promoted (up to 4.8-fold using CNTs and 3.5-fold using CNTCATB -GNP complexes compared with free lipase). CONCLUSIONS The possible reason for this promotion may be due to the increase in the interface area. The current study was not only the latest exploration of lipase activity promotion via nanomaterials, but also explored a new lipase catalytic system and provides further insight into improving the catalytic performance of lipase in conventional emulsions. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.Epidemiological studies on magnesium intake and primary liver cancer (PLC) are scarce, and no prospective studies have examined the associations of magnesium intake with PLC incidence and mortality. We sought to clarify whether higher magnesium intake from diet and supplements was associated with lower risks of PLC incidence and mortality in the US population. Magnesium intake from diet and supplements was evaluated through a food frequency questionnaire in a cohort of 104,025 participants. Cox regression was employed to calculate hazard ratios for PLC incidence and competing risk regression was employed to calculate subdistribution hazard ratios for PLC mortality. find more Restricted cubic spline regression was employed to test nonlinearity. We documented 116 PLC cases during 1,193,513.5 person-years of follow-up and 100 PLC deaths during 1,198,021.3 person-years of follow-up. Total (diet + supplements) magnesium intake was found to be inversely associated with risks of PLC incidence (hazard ratiotertile 3 vs. 1 0.44; 95% confidence interval 0.24, 0.80; ptrend = 0.0065) and mortality (subdistribution hazard ratiotertile 3 vs. 1 0.37; 95% confidence interval 0.19, 0.71; ptrend = 0.0008). Similar results were obtained for dietary magnesium intake. Nonlinear inverse dose-response associations with PLC incidence and mortality were observed for both total and dietary magnesium intakes (all pnonlinearity   less then  0.05). In summary, in the US population, a high magnesium intake is associated with decreased risks of PLC incidence and mortality in a nonlinear dose-response manner. These findings support that increasing the consumption of foods rich in magnesium may be beneficial in reducing PLC incidence and mortality. © 2020 UICC.This study was to test the hypothesis that root canal pretreated with photodynamic therapy (PDT) would promote stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAP) adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation without affecting smear layer removal and microhardness of root canal. Standardized root canals were randomized into 4 groups(n=30/group) 1) sodium hypochlorite(NaOCl) group, 2) NaOCl + ethylene diaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) group, 3) NaOCl +PDT group, 4) NaOCl +EDTA+PDT group. After treatments, smear layer removal and microhardness of root canal were evaluated. SCAP with hydroxyapatite-based scaffolds were seeded into root canals for 7 days. SCAP adhesion was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and viable cells were calculated by CellTiter-Glo Luminnescent kit. Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression of SCAP were evaluated by Quantitative Reverse Transcriptase-Polymerase Chain Reaction. There was no significant difference in the smear layer removal and microhardness of root dentin between the groups with and without PDT treatment (P>0.05). SCAP with elongated cytoplasmic processes and cell-cell contact were observed on the dentin surfaces treated with PDT. Elevated cell viability, PDGF and VEGF expression were found in root canal treated with PDT (P less then 0.05). All rights reserved.BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of capsaicin (Cap), moderate exercise (Ex), and their combination on arterial blood pressure (BP) and metabolic complications in hypoestrogenic (HE) obese (HEOb) rats. Female Wistar rats were ovariectomized and given 300 g L-1 sucrose solution (HEOb), or purified water (HE) ad libitum, for 28 weeks. After shaving the abdominal skin, cold cream vehicle was applied to sedentary (Sed) and exercise (Ex) groups, and 0.75 g kg-1 Cap cream was applied to Ex groups. Ex groups ran on a treadmill every day for 20 min at speeds from 0.15 to 0.3 m s-1 . For combination groups (Cap + Ex), topical Cap was applied 90 min before Ex. The treatments were performed for 6 weeks, and BP was recorded before and at the end of the experimental protocol. link3 The animals were killed by decapitation, and blood and tissues were obtained to perform oxidative profile, as well as to undertake biochemical and histologic studies. RESULTS Compared with individual treatments, the combined therapy (Cap + Ex) in HEOb rats caused a higher reduction in the caloric intake, body weight, abdominal fat percentage, oxidative stress, and hepatic steatosis. In HEOb groups, Cap was the only treatment that reduced BP and prevented dyslipidemia and oxidative stress. CONCLUSION The present data show that Cap improves the metabolic alterations induced by obesity and hypoestrogenism, suggesting that Cap can be considered as an excellent candidate for therapy of these clinical conditions. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.BACKGROUND The incorporation of hydrocolloids into starch dispersions modifies their techno-functional properties, such as gelatinization, retrogradation, syneresis, and texture, among others. Their main function is to improve these properties and to promote greater stability of starch gels. Thus, the main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding colloids (guar gum and xanthan gum) on the texture properties (hardness, elasticity, cohesiveness, and gumminess) and syneresis of the starch gels made from the common variety of arrowroot. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and regression were carried out to analyze the effects of the treatments and variables with their respective interactions. RESULTS The addition of guar gum and xanthan gum influenced the stability of the starch gels studied, and it was capable of reducing syneresis even at low concentrations, with a greater effect for xanthan gum. Both gums were capable of inhibiting syneresis at concentrations above 0.5%, throughout the storage time studied (5 days). The addition of these hydrocolloids was also shown to influence the following texture parameters hardness, cohesiveness, and gumminess, but showed no effect on gel elasticity. CONCLUSION The addition of hydrocolloids was shown to be an alternative way of increasing the stability and enhancing the textural properties of the starch gels in arrowroot. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.Importance Uterine leiomyomas, also referred to as myomas or fibroids, are the most common benign tumors of the reproductive tract. Ulipristal acetate (UPA) is an active selective progesterone receptor modulator used as preoperative treatment for uterine myomas. Purpose The aim of this review is to provide an overview of the literature about the effects of UPA administration before hysteroscopic myomectomy. The clinical question in "PICO" format was in patients affected by uterine myomas undergoing operative hysteroscopic management, "Does UPA impact the surgical outcomes?" Evidence Acquisition We performed a systematic literature search in PubMed/MEDLINE and Embase for original studies written in English (registered in PROSPERO CRD42018092201), using the terms "hysteroscopy" AND "ulipristal acetate" published up to March 2019. Original articles about UPA treatment before hysteroscopic myomectomy (randomized, observational, retrospective studies) were considered eligible. Results Our literature search produced 32 records. After exclusions, 4 studies were considered eligible for analysis. Results show that UPA does not worsen the overall technical difficulty of hysteroscopic myomectomy. Moreover, it may increase the chance of complete primary myomectomy in complex hysteroscopic procedures. Conclusions and Relevance Despite the positive results presented in this systematic review, low-quality evidence exists yet on the impact of UPA treatment before hysteroscopic myomectomy. High-quality prospective randomized controlled trials are required to establish the impact of UPA on surgical outcomes of patients treated for uterine myomas by hysteroscopy. Moreover, long-term outcomes of myomectomies after UPA treatment (such as frequency of myoma recurrence, recovery time, and quality of life) should be determined.
