Recently, high-precision radiotherapy systems have been developed by integrating computerized tomography or magnetic resonance imaging to enhance the precision of radiotherapy. For integration with additional imaging systems in a limited space, miniaturization and weight reduction of the linear accelerator (linac) system have become important. The aim of this work is to develop a compact medical linac based on 9.3GHz X-band RF technology instead of the S-band RF technology typically used in the radiotherapy field.
The accelerating tube was designed by 3D finite-difference time-domain and particle-in-cell simulations because the frequency variation resulting from the structural parameters and processing errors is relatively sensitive to the operating performance of the X-band linac. Through the 3D simulation of the electric field distribution and beam dynamics process, we designed an accelerating tube to efficiently accelerate the electron beam and used a magnetron as the RF source to miniaturize the entirical stiffness of the unit and reduce the mechanical load.
A 9.3 GHz X-band medical linac was developed for high-precision radiotherapy. Since a more precise design and machining process are required for X-band RF technology, this linac was developed by performing a 3D simulation and ultraprecision machining. The X-band linac has a short length and a compact volume, but it can generate a validated therapeutic beam. Therefore, it has more flexibility to be coupled with imaging systems such as CT or MRI and can reduce the bore size of the gantry. In addition, the weight reduction can improve the mechanical stiffness of the unit and reduce the mechanical load.
To develop a model for predicting biochemical recurrence (BCR) in patients with long follow-up periods using clinical parameters and the machine learning (ML) methods.
Patients who underwent robot-assisted radical prostatectomy between January 2014 and December 2019 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients who did not have BCR were assigned to Group 1, while those diagnosed with BCR were assigned to Group 2. The patient's demographic data, preoperative and postoperative parameters were all recorded in the database. Three different ML algorithms were employed random forest, K-nearest neighbour, and logistic regression.
Three hundred and sixty-eight patients were included in this study. Among these patients, 295 (80.1%) did not have BCR (Group 1), while 73 (19.8%) had BCR (Group 2). The mean duration of follow-up and duration until the diagnosis of BCR was calculated as 35.2 ± 16.7 and 11.5 ± 11.3 months, respectively. The multivariate analysis revealed that NLR, PSAd, risk classification, PIRADS score, T s with advantages such as more accurate risk classification, prognosis estimation, early intervention, avoidance of unnecessary treatments, relatively lower morbidity and mortality. The accuracy of prediction was estimated using a five-fold cross-validation approach, with 708 and 178 individuals sampled for the training and validation sets respectively. Prediction of the accuracy of each of the models was improved substantially compared with PBLUP (10%) using 1000 informative SNPs. The GBLUP model (65%), which required less computing time, outperformed the remaining models - ssGBLUP (53%), BayesB (47%) and BayesC (42%).
Previous studies have demonstrated an association between nonselective beta-blockers (NSBBs) and lower risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in cirrhosis. However, there has been no population-based study investigating the risk of HCC among cirrhotic patients treated using carvedilol.

This retrospective cohort study utilised the Cerner Health Facts database in the United States from 2000 to 2017. Kaplan-Meier estimate, Cox proportional hazards regression, and propensity score matching (PSM) were used to test the HCC risk among the carvedilol, nadolol, and propranolol groups compared with no beta-blocker group.
The final cohort comprised 107428 eligible patients. This study investigated the effects of two GnRH agonists, histrelin and deslorelin, on testosterone, testis size, body weight and sperm production in male lion-tailed macaques, along with subjective observations of aggressive behavior. Five trials at three institutions with 14 males demonstrated that 100 mg histrelin or 9 to 12 mg of deslorelin could at least temporarily reduce testosterone, but a lower 6 mg dose was ineffective. However, ability of deslorelin to produce azoospermia varied among males, even at the highest dose. In general, a higher dose was needed (1) to achieve than to maintain suppression of any measured parameter and (2) to suppress sperm production than testosterone concentration. Testosterone production was also more likely than sperm production to recover, suggesting possible damage to seminiferous tubules but not to Leydig cells. Aggressive behavior was reduced in all but the group receiving the lowest dose. This allowed social groups to be maintained for many years despite recovery of testosterone in some males, suggesting that new social roles had been learned and become independent of androgen influence.
Registration of pre- and intraoperative images is a crucial step of surgical liver navigation, where rigid registration of vessel centerlines is currently commonly used. When using 3D ultrasound (US), accuracy during navigation might be influenced by the size of the intraoperative US volume, yet the relationship between registration accuracy and US volume size is understudied. In this study, we specify an optimal 3D US volume size for registration using varying volumes of liver vasculature. While previous studies measured accuracy at registered fiducials, in this work, accuracy is determined at the target lesion which is clinically the most relevant structure.

In the current study, a population of complex epistasis was constructed by crossing dominant White Leghorn chickens with recessive white feather chickens. Through a genome-wide association study, we identified single nucleotide polymorphisms and genes significantly associated with white and colored plumage in hens at different developmental stages. Interestingly, white plumage in adulthood was associated with the recessive white feather gene (TYR), whereas white feathers at birth stage were associated with the dominant white feather gene (PMEL), indicating age-related roles for these genes. TYR was shown to exert an epistatic effect on PMEL in adult hens. Additionally, TYR had an epistatic effect on barred plumage, while barred plumage had an epistatic effect on black plumage. TYR had no epistatic effect on the yellow plumage. We confirmed that the barred plumage gene is CDKN2A, as reported in previous studies. Golgb1 and REEP3, which play important roles in the Golgi network and affect the formation of feather pigments, are important candidate genes for yellow plumage. The candidate genes for black plumage are CAMKK1 and IFT22. Further research is warranted to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying these traits.
To compare the outcome of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation via pulmonary vein isolation using Ablation Index (AI) with strict or standard stability criteria.
We enrolled 130 consecutive naive patients affected by paroxysmal AF who underwent PVI at two high-volume centers. AI target was ≥380 at the posterior wall and ≥500 at the anterior wall. Strict versus standard stability criteria were set for Group 1 (65 patients) and Group 2 (65 patients), respectively. We compared those strategies with a historical cohort of 72 consecutive patients treated at same centers in the VISITALY study, using average force ≥10g and strict stability criteria as target parameters. Interlesion distance target was<6mm. Recurrence was defined as any AF, atrial tachycardia (AT) or atrial flutter (AFL) during the 12 months after ablation, excluding a 90-days blanking period.
Procedure duration (224.05 ± 47.21 vs. 175.61 ± 51.29min; p<.001), fluoroscopy time (11.85 ± 4.38 vs. 10.46 ± 6.49min; p=.019) and pericardial effusion rate (9.23% vs. 0%; p=.01) were higher in Group 1 than in Group 2. Freedom from AF/AT/AFL at 12 months was not significantly different (Group 1 86.15%; Group 2 90.77%; p=.42). Compared to VISITALY study, there were not significant differences in terms of recurrences.

Most traditional census methods are demanding or destructive. Nondisturbing and nonlethal approaches based on video and environmental DNA are alternatives to underwater visual census or fishing. However, their ability to detect multiple biodiversity factors beyond traditional taxonomic diversity is still unknown. For bony fishes and elasmobranchs, we compared the performance of eDNA metabarcoding and long-term remote video to assess species' phylogenetic and functional diversity. We used 10 eDNA samples from 30 L of water each and 25 hours of underwater videos over 4 days on Malpelo Island (pacific coast of Colombia), a remote marine protected area. Metabarcoding of eDNA detected 66% more molecular operational taxonomic units (MOTUs) than video. We found 66 and 43 functional entities with a single eDNA marker and videos, respectively, and higher functional richness for eDNA than videos. Despite gaps in genetic reference databases, eDNA also detected a higher fish phylogenetic diversity than videos; accumulation curves showed how 1 eDNA transect detected as much phylogenetic diversity as 25 hours of video.
