6% and 84.3% of listed and transplanted patients respectively. Logistic regression analysis found that in the LAS era, males had an increased odds for LT allocation (OR 1.19, CI 1.12-1.27, p < .001) compared to females, and persons of White race (OR 1.23, CI 1.16-1.32, p < .001) compared to all other races combined.
The majority of listed and transplanted patients in the United States were males and persons of White race. Also, being a male or person of White race had an outcome favoring lung transplant allocation compared to an appropriately matched person of another gender or race.

Factors that may affect surgical decompression results in tarsal tunnel syndrome are not known.
A retrospective single-center study included patients who had undergone surgical tibial nerve release. The effectiveness of decompression was evaluated according to whether the patient would or would not be willing to undergo another surgical procedure in similar preoperative circumstances.
The patients stated for 43 feet (51%) that they would agree to a further procedure in similar circumstances. Six feet with space-occupying lesions on imaging had improved results, but neurolysis failed in 9 feet with bone-nerve contact. Neurolysis was significantly less effective when marked hindfoot valgus (p = 0.034), varus (p = 0.014), or fasciitis (p = 0.019) were present.
If imaging reveals a compressive space-occupying lesion, surgery has a good prognosis. In feet with static hindfoot disorders or plantar fasciitis, conservative treatment must be optimized. Bone-nerve contact should systematically be sought.

To describe the anatomy of the brachial plexus in eastern box turtles (Terrapene carolina carolina), develop a blind perineural injection technique for brachial plexus blockade and evaluate the distribution of three volumes of new methylene blue dye for injection in cadavers.
Prospective, randomized, blinded cadaveric study.
A total of 24 frozen-thawed box turtle cadavers; two turtles identified with shoulder injuries were subsequently excluded from the study. The remaining 22 turtles weighed 397 (190-581) g, median (range).
The brachial plexus and regional anatomy were identified by dissection of seven cadavers to determine anatomic landmarks for a perineural injection technique. This technique was tested by randomizing 15 cadavers into one of three groups to be injected bilaterally with one of three volumes (0.1, 0.2 or 0.3 mL) of methylene blue dye 1% aqueous solution. Investigators blinded to the assigned group dissected cadavers 15 minutes after injection and used staining of the four cervical sphat can be successfully used for this technique, and to evaluate its application and efficacy in live turtles.Broadly neutralizing antibodies against rapidly evolving viruses (e.g., HIV-1 and influenza virus), often manifest antigen-binding promiscuity. Based on a recent study, we hypothesize on the significance of antibody polyreactivity in neutralization of rapidly evolving viruses. We propose that polyreactivity contributes to toleration of viral variants and shortens the time for generating neutralizing antibodies.
Multiple attempts during peripheral cannulation can have major consequences for patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals, therefore we set out to determine the extent of this problem in a paediatric intensive care unit (PICU).
The main aim was to describe peripheral venous catheter (PVC) and peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) cannulation in children in the PICU. Secondary objectives were to determine the success rate of the first cannulation attempt, to quantify patients with difficult venous access (DVA), and to explore the association between DVA and sociodemographic, technique and nursing-related characteristics.
A cross-sectional descriptive study. Consecutive sampling was used to recruit patients aged 0-18 years admitted to the PICU who required peripheral venous cannulation. An ad hoc questionnaire was used for this purpose, including the presence of DVA as an independent variable.
A total of 163 venous cannulations were reported. A total of 55.8% (91) were performed in patie nor palpable, DIVA score≥4, history of difficult intravenous access, complications, number of nurses and time spent.
Avian trichomonosis is a parasitic infection that affects a wide range of avian species, including free-ranging and pet birds worldwide, and Trichomonas gallinae has been considered as the only causative agent for decades. The sequence of the 5.8S ribosomal RNA with internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions was widely used for identifying genotypes and determining inter-specific and intra-specific diversity. Moreover, the sequence of Fe-hydrogenase (FeHyd) was proposed as the second genetic marker for providing improved resolution of strain subtyping discrimination. Though the correlation between genetic variability and strain virulence is controversial, FeHyd analyses seemed to be useful to investigate the host or geographic origin of isolates. This study aimed to investigate the genetic characteristics of avian Trichomonas spp.
Forty-seven oral swabs and crop lavage fluids were collected from 9 avian genera, which were diagnosed as Trichomonas-positive by microscopy in animal hospitals in Japan, were analyzed.
Genetic analysis of clonal isolates revealed the prevalence of the single genotype, ITS-OBT-Tg-1, by ITS region analysis, while two different subtypes, A2 and novel A3, were suggested by FeHyd gene analysis among Japanese companion birds. Phylogenetic analyses of available ITS sequences obtained from the Asia region (China, Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia) were also preformed, revealing endemic ITS-OBT-Tg-1, ITS-OBT-Tg-2, ITS-OBT-Ttl-1, genotype III, and Saudi Arabia's unique lineages. Furthermore, ITS-OBT-Tg-2 predominance in these countries indicates different strains origination from Japan.
This is the first report of the genetic characterization of T. gallinae in Japan with discovery of novel subtype A3.

The Coronavirus- 19 disease pandemic had a significant impact on the blood supply around the world. Physical distancing measures and many other factors contribute to this impact. Misinformation about methods of disease transmission and lack of knowledge among potential blood donors may contribute to this.
To assess the knowledge and awareness of blood donors about COVID-19 as well as their reasons and fears that prevent them from donating blood during this period.
This is an exploratory; survey based cross sectional study targeting Saudi population.
A total number of 3841 persons responded to the survey; 58 % were between the ages of (31-50) years. Most participants 74.5 % were males. More than 60 % of participants donated blood previously, and many were repeat donors. The majority of participants were concerned about the transmission of the virus during the blood donation process mostly secondary to concerns about contact with other blood donors.
Fear of contracting COVID-19 during donating blood is an important concern for potential blood donors. Blood collection facilities must take optimum precautionary measures to minimize this risk and are encouraged to communicate these efforts to potential donors for reassurance to maintain an adequate and safe blood supply.

To document incidence rate and severity of specific sub-categories of respiratory tract illness (RTill) in rugby players during the Super Rugby tournament.
Cross-sectional study.
Team physicians completed daily illness logs in 537 professional male rugby players from South African teams participating in the Super Rugby Union tournaments (2013-2017) (1141 player-seasons, 102,738 player-days). The incidence rate (IR illness episodes/1000 player-days) and severity [%RTill resulting in time-loss, illness burden (IB days lost to illness/1000 player-days) and days until return-to-play (DRTP)/single illness (mean 95% Confidence Intervals)] are reported for the following specific sub-categories of RTill non-infective respiratory tract illness (RTnon-inf), respiratory tract infections (RTinf), influenza-like illness, infective sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infections (URTinf), lower respiratory tract infections (LRTinf).
The overall IR of RTill was 2.9 (2.6-3.3). IR was higher for RTinf (2.5; 2.2-2.9) vs. LRTinf and influenza-like illness.
A stepped-down program is one where clients transition from the care of a health professional to self-managed care. This study reviewed the effectiveness of stepped-down interventions to promote self-managed physical activity for health in military service veterans.
Systematic review.
Literature searches of 11 electronic databases were performed (up to 28th April 2020) to identify randomised controlled trials that assessed self-managed physical activity interventions in military service veterans. Data were extracted on study characteristics, intervention programs (with strategies mapped against a taxonomy of behaviour change techniques), and physical activity outcomes; secondary outcomes were physical fitness/function, psychosocial health, and cost effectiveness. Study quality was assessed using a 15-item checklist adapted from the TESTEX scale.
Searches identified 26 studies (all from the United States; N = 45 to 531 participants) representing 17 intervention programs. Studies were of good quality (Mdomised controlled trials that use objective physical activity measures are needed to further build the evidence base.Accurate communication at the stigma surface is required to promote plants' own pollen and reject foreign pollen. Liu et al. have now discovered an autocrine signaling pathway at the surface of arabidopsis stigmatic papillae, accumulating ROS. Downregulation of ROS production via an antagonistic peptide from the pollen coat promotes pollen hydration and germination.
This study aimed to assess the association between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and severity of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and to discuss the pathological relevance of the diagnostic criteria in metabolic (dysfunction) associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD).
This was a multicenter, cross-sectional study. Patients with NAFLD confirmed by liver biopsy were enrolled between July 2016 and December 2018 from 14 centers across the mainland of China. Anthropometric and metabolic parameters were collected to assess the pathological relevance.
Of 246 enrolled patients with NAFLD, 150 (61.0%) had the comorbidity of MetS. With the increase of metabolic components, the proportion of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and significant fibrosis were notably increased. The comorbid three metabolic components significantly increased the proportion of NASH, and further increase of metabolic components did not increase the proportion of NASH. However, the increase of metabolic components was parallel to the increase of the proportion of liver fibrosis.
