In the field of food microbial ecology, different NGS platforms have been used for community analysis, including 454 pyrosequencing from Roche, Illumina's instruments and Thermo Fisher's SOLiD/Ion Torrent sequencers. These recent platforms generate information about millions of rDNA amplicons in a single running, enabling accurate phylogenetic resolution of microbial taxa. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the application of NGS for microbiome analysis of traditional fermented milk products worldwide. Fermented milk products covered in this review include kefir, buttermilk, koumiss, dahi, kurut, airag, tarag, khoormog, lait caillé, and suero costeño. Lactobacillus-mainly represented by Lb. helveticus, Lb. kefiranofaciens, and Lb. delbrueckii-is the most important and frequent genus with 51 reported species. In general, dominant species detected by culturing were also identified by NGS. However, NGS studies have revealed a more complex bacterial diversity, with estimated 400-600 operational taxonomic units, comprising uncultivable microorganisms, sub-dominant populations, and late-growing species. This review explores the importance of these discoveries and address related topics on workflow, NGS platforms, and knowledge bioinformatics devoted to fermented milk products. Our previous studies revealed that upregulating postlearning theta power using EEG neurofeedback (NFB) significantly benefitted procedural and episodic memory performance (both immediate and delayed), and may provide optimal conditions for stabilization of new memories. We have now explored whether memory benefits of theta NFB generalize to delayed spatial memory, an additional hippocampus-dependent process. Participants learned to associate object images with locations on a computer screen. NFB was used to enable participants to selectively increase scalp EEG theta power for 30 minutes. Visuo-spatial memory was tested one week later, with the theta NFB participants compared with 2 control groups (beta-augmentation NFB as an active control group, and an additional passive control group that did not engage in NFB). Theta upregulation was found to improve visuo-spatial memory, as reflected in reduced error distances in location marking and faster reaction time for correct answers by the theta group. This supports the contention that theta upregulation immediately after learning strengthens early consolidation of visuo-spatial memory. This intervention could potentially benefit various memory-challenged populations, as well as healthy individuals.The problem of drug resistance of food borne pathogens is becoming more and more serious. In this study, we investigated whether circMAP3K5 (circular mitogen-activated protein kinase 5) could act as a competing endogenous microRNA-22-3p (miR-22-3p) sponge and regulate neointimal hyperplasia.

Circular RNA profiling from genome-wide RNA sequencing data was compared between human coronary artery smooth muscle cells (SMCs) treated with or without platelet-derived growth factor. Expression levels of circMAP3K5 were assessed in human coronary arteries from autopsies on patients with dilated cardiomyopathy or coronary heart disease. The role of circMAP3K5 in intimal hyperplasia was further investigated in mice with adeno-associated virus 9-mediated circMAP3K5 transfection. SMC-specific Tet2 (ten-eleven translocation-2) knockout mice and global miR-22-3p knockout mice were used to delineate the mechanism by which circMAP3K5 attenuated neointimal hyperplasia usin antiproliferative effect of circMap3k5 on vascular SMCs. In SMC-specific Tet2 knockout mice, loss of Tet2 abolished the circMap3k5-mediated antiproliferative effect on vascular SMCs.

It draws from ethnographic research conducted during what is locally referred to as being a time between wars, or a 'period of quiet', in the ongoing regional conflicts affecting these borders. Contrasting the upkeep and organisation of shelters situated in two private homes on the same street, the paper explores how shelters are used to foster a localised sense of wellbeing in a time of 'quiet', as well as who is seen to demonstrate wellbeing in this context. Each shelter is a place where the temporal position of being between past and future war is visceral. Memories of past wars, present uncertainty and the anticipated threats of future war are easily encountered in each shelter, although in varied ways. Yet, the arrangement of each shelter reflects how their owners make sense of the time they understand themselves to inhabit, while allowing them to re-organise and edit out what is problematic, uncomfortable or threatening about dwelling in a present between wars. A sense of wellbeing comes from the thoughtful, creative and aspirational ordering of past, present and future inside of each shelter, and through an ordering of one's position in time. Materials and Methods We investigated two Dornier laser devices, a Medilas H Solvo 35 and a pulsed solid-state thulium laser evaluation model (Dornier MedTech Laser GmbH, Wessling, Germany). Our setup consisted of a water-filled glass tank heated to 37/60/70°C. Different laser power/frequency settings and short/long pulses were examined for both laser devices. We analyzed the impact of degraded, cut, and broken fibers on gas bubble anatomy. Furthermore, high-speed recordings of BegoStone ablation were analyzed. For all recordings, we used a Photron Nova S12 camera. Results These two devices produced differently shaped gas bubbles under different fiber conditions, temperatures, power settings, and short and long pulse settings, which explain the differing repulsive force and pressure values. Inside the gas bubble, a cone was visible whose angle correlates with the protruding jet. We observed turbulences and swirls moving back and forth the fiber tip. During fragmentation, sparks are generated that demonstrate the photothermal effect, and we recorded stone fragments being pulled toward the fiber. Both devices showed comparable results with differences mainly due to pulse lengths. Conclusion The shapes of the vapor bubbles formed during laser lithotripsy depend on several factors. link3 Excessive transoperative fiber cleavage seems to be unnecessary. Moench (Family - Asteraceae) was selected for detailed phytochemical investigations. B. anthelmintica seeds, purchased from local market, were extracted exhaustively in a Soxhlet apparatus using methanol as solvent. A well-established method was adopted to obtain phenolic compounds and flavonoids rich fraction of methanol extract. This fraction yielded two isolates (AK-1 and AK-2) upon purification by column chromatographic process. AK-1 was characterized as mixture of two isomeric compounds - 3',4',5,6,7- and 3',4',5,7,8-pentahydroxy flavanone, and AK-2 as butein (chalcone derivative) by UV, IR and NMR spectral analysis. A TLC densitometric method was developed and validated to estimate the content of butein in B. anthelmintica seeds, and was found to be 1.252 mg/g. Bioactive Marker (butein) based standardized B. anthelmintica seeds will ensure reproducibility in efficacy and safety of the plant or authenticity of its products.Aim An overview of recent epidemiology and disease burden, independent of patient age, of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis and Hemophilus influenzae invasive disease in the UK. Materials & methods A systematic review was undertaken. Outcomes included incidence, prevalence, risk factors and cost burden. Results 39 publications were included. Hepatitis B prevalence is high among certain risk groups. A small pertussis risk remains in pregnancy and for infants, which led to the introduction of maternal vaccination. H. influenzae invasive disease cases are limited to rare serotypes. Polio, tetanus and diphtheria are well controlled. Conclusion The evaluated diseases are currently well controlled, thanks to a comprehensive vaccination program, with a generally low clinical and cost burden.
