Attempts have been made to understand the wound at the molecular level, mainly through the analysis of signature genes and the influence of several synthetic and natural molecules on these. We have outlined a review of challenges in chronic wound healing and the role of CAMs in chronic wound management. The main focus is on the applications and limitations of currently available treatment options for a non-healing wound and the best possible alternates to consider. This information generates broader knowledge on challenges in chronic wound healing, which can be further addressed using multidisciplinary approach and combination therapies.Upcoming developments are attracting attention to both high-protein and probiotics supplementation for the sports community to promote good health and exercise performance. This study aimed at the production of high-protein concentrated pro-yogurt (Pro-WPI) enriched with 10 and 20% whey protein isolate (WPI) and investigation of the response of daily consumption on anthropometric, hematology parameters, and athletic performance in parallel with safety consideration assessment. Twenty-four athletes (19.6 ± 1.45 years; 175.96 ± 5.24 cm; 73.16 ± 8.65 kg) were participated in a randomized placebo-control study. They consumed Pro-WPI products with 10 (T1) and 20% (T2) WPI for treatments G1 (Pro-WPI30) and G2 (Pro-WPI60), respectively, 3 times per day/5 days per week/9 weeks. The taste of Pro-WPI products was sour and cheesy, while mouthfeel was described as soft and thick because of the increased protein content in T1 and T2 (14.15 and 22.58%). The hemoglobin of the athletes increased significantly from a baselined intensity of 10 and 20% Pro-WPI product consumption to achieve its benefits and avoid implications on kidney function.Halitosis or oral malodor is a condition caused by the putrefaction of sulfur-containing amino acids. It affects 30-50% of the population and causes social rejection, reducing quality of life, and self-esteem. Probiotics, especially Lactobacillus species, have been proposed for the treatment of genuine halitosis, due to their ability to reduce bacterial colonization. Our objective was to evaluate their use for the treatment of oral halitosis. Applying the PRISMA statement guidelines, we searched PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases for scientific articles from the last 15 years, up to July 2021. The keywords used were "Probiotics"; "Halitosis"; "Mouth diseases"; "Oral health"; "Humans"; "Randomized Clinical Trials" according to the question, "Are probiotics effective for the reduction or elimination of oral halitosis?" Fourteen studies were identified, although only four met the inclusion criteria. We evaluated 283 participants treated with two different probiotics, with a follow-up of at least 2 weeks. Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration tool. A fixed-effects meta-analysis was performed. No statistical significance was found (p = 0.53). Despite the limitations of this meta-analysis, we believe that some probiotics have a beneficial effect on halitosis, although more clinical trials are needed to establish real evidence on this aspect. We conducted a multi-institutional clinical study to assess the prognostic value of the advanced lung cancer inflammatory index (ALI) and modified ALI (mALI) in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

We collected 440 patients who underwent laparoscopic nephrectomy at three centers from 2014 to 2019. ALI was defined as body mass index (BMI) × serum albumin (ALB)/neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and mALI as L3 muscle index × ALB/NLR. Kaplan-Meier curves, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and Cox survival analysis were used to assess the effect of ALI and mALI on overall survival (OS). In addition, we performed 11 propensity score matching (PSM) for the high mALI and low mALI groups to further explore the impact of mALI on survival in RCC patients.

The optimal cut-off values for ALI and mALI were 40.6 and 83.0, respectively. Based on the cut-off values, we divided the patients into high ALI and low ALI groups, high mALI and low mALI groups. ALI and mALI were significantly associated wit prognostic indicator for RCC patients.Nanomaterials exist as potential biocompatible materials in nature and are being synthesized to provide extraordinary characteristics in various food industry sectors. This review provides a systematic study on the biocompatibility of nanomaterials. It highlights the synthesis of biocompatible nanomaterials and advanced functions of these nanomaterials in the production area, processing industry, safety improvement, quality control, edible packaging films, biocompatibility, current developments, legislations and regulations for Nano-products, health and safety concerns, toxicity and public perceptions for use of nanomaterials.The effect of skeletal muscle loss associated with surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy on survival outcomes in patients with early-stage cervical cancer remains unclear. We analyzed the data of 133 patients with early-stage cervical cancer who underwent surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy between 2013 and 2018 at two tertiary centers. Skeletal muscle changes were measured using computed tomography scans at baseline, at simulation for radiotherapy, and at 3 months post-treatment. A decrease of ≥5% in the skeletal muscle was defined as "muscle loss." The Patient-Reported Outcome version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE) was used to assess gastrointestinal toxicity. The Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) was used for nutritional assessment. Predictors of overall survival were identified using the Cox regression models. The median follow-up period was 3.7 years. After treatment, 32 patients (24.1%) experienced muscle loss. The rate of muscle loss was higher in patients with PRO-CTCAE score ≥3 or PG-SGA score ≥4 at the end of radiotherapy than in patients with PRO-CTCAE score ≤2 or PG-SGA score 0-3 (75.0 vs. 10.5%, p less then 0.001; 71.4 vs. 2.2%, p less then 0.001). The 3-year overall survival was significantly lower in patients with muscle loss than in those with muscle preserved (65.6 vs. 93.9%, p less then 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that muscle loss was independently associated with poor overall survival (hazard ratio, 4.55; 95% confidence interval 1.63-12.72; p less then 0.001). Muscle loss after surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy was associated with poor overall survival in patients with early-stage cervical cancer. Muscle loss is associated with patient-reported gastrointestinal toxicity and deterioration in nutritional status.Abdominal obesity is a critical factor for metabolic diseases, and specific eating patterns such as the Mediterranean diet help prevent metabolic diseases. This study aimed to investigate the association between the modified Korean health eating index (MKHEI), including a Korean-balanced diet, and abdominal obesity risk according to genders in adults aged 20-64 years (4,886 males and 7,431 females), using the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey VI (2013-2016). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/brefeldin-a.html Adjusted means and 95% confidence intervals of MKHEI scores and nutrient intake estimated using the 24-h recall method were calculated according to abdominal obesity (waist circumference ≥90 cm for men and ≥85 cm for women) after adjusting for age, residence area, region, education, income, drinking status, smoking status, marital status, and exercise. Adjusted odds ratios (ORs) for abdominal obesity were measured according to MKHEI tertiles using logistic regression analysis while controlling for covariates. Individuals aged >50 years, married, below high school, lower-income, heavy alcohol drinkers, past and current smokers, and males living in the southern areas had a higher risk of abdominal obesity. In both genders, the scores of all MKHEI components were lower in the abdominal obesity group (n = 2,895) than in the control group (n = 9,422). Further, the scores of fruits with and without fruit juice and those of beans, including fermented beans, were lower in the abdominal obesity group only in females but not in males. Further, the scores of fast foods were higher in the abdominal obesity group than in the control group only in females. After adjusting for covariates, the adjusted OR for abdominal obesity was inversely associated with Korean balanced diet (KBD) related to KHEI scores. Unlike KBD, MKHEI of Western-style diet was not associated with abdominal obesity in either gender. In conclusion, KBD can lower the risk of abdominal obesity in females and should thus be recommended to prevent abdominal obesity.Several studies have demonstrated that high protein diets improve glucose homeostasis. Nevertheless, the mechanisms underlying this effect remain elusive. This exploratory study aims to screen and compare the acute effects of dietary proteins from different sources on intestinal glucose absorption. Six dietary proteins from various sources were thus selected and digested thanks to the INFOGEST static gastrointestinal digestion protocol. The digested proteins were able to decrease intestinal glucose absorption in vitro and ex vivo. Moreover, acute ingestion of casein and fish gelatin led to improved glucose tolerance in Wistar rats without significant effect on insulin secretion. In parallel, GLUT2 mRNA expression in enterocytes was decreased following short-term incubation with some of the digested proteins. These results strengthen the evidence that digested protein-derived peptides and amino acids are key regulators of glucose homeostasis and highlight their role in intestinal glucose absorption.
